If this information is correct, this is going to "Katrina" not just a city, but large parts of a state. In the aftermath, there will be no insurance companies willing to take a risk, for any amount of money, anywhere in the region. If you rebuild it, you can't insure it.
This is why I trust science and facts. We can determine when storms will hit and people are given a chance to evacuate.

What some folks forget is that a hurricane is rarely a direct hit. Tropical storms are waved off as they are essentially harmless despite all. But this is a cat5 direct hit. Absolutely the worst of the worst. Get out the state while you still have time. Florida's coast is about to go for a nasty swim.
This is NOT a cat5 hit. Absolutely NO models have this hitting Florida as a cat5. Models are all predicting a cat3 down to a cat2 landfall with a widespread storm surge. All depending on how high it gets as a max out over the gulf and how fast it declines as it approaches land. It's good to encourage people to prepare or evacuate, but fear of the worst thing ever is less helpful than realistic preparation. It lulls locals into a sense that "it'll never be that bad, so it should really be fine".

Katrina was 902 MB's and it damn near wiped New Orleans off the map.

It's the record heat content in the Gulf, just as it has been the record heat content in the Atlantic. This storm might weaken slightly, but the heat content off Florida's west coast is at record highs and the surface temperature is warmer than off the Mexican coast. There isn't much in the way of shear or dry air to weaking Milton anywhere in that region right now.

Camille had 900 mb pressure and estimated sustained winds of 190 mph AT LANDFALL! "estimated" because it destroyed all measuring devices.
I have seen documentaries on Camille where they believe it was the strongest hurricane on record. But because they didn't have the modern technology of today... They are going by the evidence.

An impressive yet terrifying storm. I can't imagine how people in the path of this monster must be feeling.

We are scared. Truly. I've been in FL 43 years and seen my fair share of major hurricanes, but this one has me terrified. Not to mention all the debris from Helene still piled up alongside the road that the city of Tampa still hasn't picked up. All of it is about to become projectiles traveling at 150+ mph. And even if somehow we survive this monster, we have to look forward to rebuilding and no power for weeks, possibly months. Tampa hasn't taken a direct hit in around 100 years.

I recall Katrina was packing 188 Sustained winds when it was out in the ocean.. then it weakened slightly..
It was a category 5 in the Gulf when Katrina hit land in Waveland Mississippi which I was 20 miles away from she was category 3... With a 30-foot wall of water. I was also on the Gulf Coast during hurricane Camille, which had the strongest winds of any hurricane on record, it broke the wind gauges at over 200 mph. Nevertheless if it is a category 5 or a category 3 the storm surge will still be from a category 5. It will cause a lot of destruction.

My personal forecast when it started developing a few days ago, was that it would be a category four. Why you ask, it's because most climate or weather predictions do not match the intensity of what actually occurs. This has been true for most of the climate models through the years.
Yes. Climate change is happening sooner, with more intensity than predicted 15 years ago.
Category 5 is the highest we lnow of it could be stronger.

Get flood insurance, as most policies will not cover property damage caused by hurricanes without having flood insurance in place.
If you’re evacuating, don’t wait until the last minute. I had to Evacuate Panama City for Hurricane Opal in the 90s and it was bumper to bumper 2mph trying to get out of town.
It does not matter if it is category five, four, or three. If it hits tampa directly it could be catastrophic
