    • @eirebhoy132
      @eirebhoy132 28 днів тому +5

      it’s literally just the opposite of the current rule, instead of if your most forward part of your body deciding if you’re offside now it will be furthest back part of your body, so at best it will be marginally easier, and to be honest now they’re using the semi automatic offside system the rule won’t even need changing, it worked basically perfectly in the World Cup.

    Offside is the only VAR rule that works. There's no issue with it. So I don't get why you guys think it sounds like a good idea. The only issue is they take 25 years to measure it.

      exactly. I'm definitely not a fan of VAR and would want to exclude anything where there's room for human judgement from its purview, only factual errors where there is no ambiguity should be dealt with by VAR. Offside is the one thing I want them to fully automate. No more calibrated lines to be drawn, have an AI send a signal to the watches of the refs. This daylight rule will just get teams to defend deeper and I doubt it'll lead to more goals.

    We are still going to have the exact same issues as we have with the current rule.
    The only difference is we will now be arguing over whether or not there is a fraction of daylight between the attacker and defender VS arguing about whether or not a fraction of the attackers toe is beyond the defender.
    Marginal decisions will still exist. I don't see how this rule change fixes anything. What does it improve ?
    My concern would also be that teams would end up setting up their defence deeper than they do now to counter the increased threat of fast players getting in behind due to the rule change..

  • @leecooper2471
    @leecooper2471 27 днів тому +2

    People who say all this does is change the lines need to study the offside rule a little more. It will give the forward an advantage and save time with VAR. When a forward makes a run his head or chest would be much further forward than there own back foot. If any part of the back foot is behind any of the defender then they would be onside. Defenders would suffer from it though as the forward has more room for error when making a run.

    Close games are more entertaining than one team getting battered. A hard fought 2-1 is more entertaining to watch than a one sided 5-1. • @waynewayne2472
    @waynewayne2472 20 днів тому

    I have no idea why people make this so complicated. its the way the offside is policed that is the problem not the offside rule. Players dont have goggles with lines to see if he has gone a millisecond early or is 1 cm offside from a player 30 yards away, while all the time looking at the ball being played from behind him and shaping his run. So, VAR gets to look at the replay 3 times at normal speed, and perhaps once in slow motion, and if you cant tell if he is on or offside, then the forward has done his job to perfection and is considered onside. This would make it fair, sligthly in favour of the forward,realistic to the spirit of the game, and crucially quicker to police. come on save the game

    Rory is capable of saying a lot of really dumb things in such a short space of time. He says this new rule "encourages negativity". First it's not a new rule, it's the way offside was ruled for decades. The offside rule being slightly tweaked would have very little bearing on the way players and teams defend. Then he brings out this banger "football is not about entertainment, it's about winning." And then this one, "the priority shouldn't be the neutral viewer," as if the FA only want United and City fans to watch the FA Cup Final.
    Then he torches his own argument by saying "we need to remember that the offside rule is there to stop goal hanging, but has now become the Frankenstein of Football." Yeah bro, because we have these silly lines and players are offside by a nostril. So what's your bloody point anyway?

      But it isn’t a couple of inches, no part of the body you can score with can be ahead of the defender currently, with wengers any part of your body inline with the defender is onside so depending on how long their leg is it could be a half a yard to a yard of difference potentially, it’s certainly a lot more than a couple of inches.

    • @andyhatfield1071
      @andyhatfield1071 27 днів тому

      @eirebhoy132 you're right, but in implementing it the same focus is given to "what is daylight?", examples from the previous week where something similar was allowed/disallowed (with the usual bluster), and the only way to be consistent is to define a distance and draw lines.

    • @eirebhoy132
      @eirebhoy132 27 днів тому

      @@andyhatfield1071 the rules name is stupid as most would consider clear daylight to be marginally past the defender where there is a clear gap between the 2, but wengers rule could have the attacker a yard ahead and still be onside, it has nothing to do with clear day light at all.

    Wenger is the most overrated manager in Premier League history.
    Here's why;
    - Arsenal are a big club, and he only won 3 Premier League Titles in 22 years.
    - Wenger only reached ONE Champions League Final despite having 22 attempts.
    - Wenger only won the Premier League whilst it was a 2 horse race 98, 02, 04. As soon as Chelsea came along, then Man City, he won 0 Premier League Titles.
    - He was apparently famous for finding unknown talent for cheap, which he did with Henry, Anelka etc. Yet as soon as the stadium was built, Wenger FAILED to repeat this, and the stadium was blamed for him not winning the Premier League. Why couldn't Wenged find the next Henry, Viera etc during the stadium building years? Oh, yes, he couldn't handle a Title race that was more than 2 horses.
    - Wenger actually went 9 whole years with ZERO trophies.
    - Big clubs are measured on winning two things. Domestic League Title and Champions League. Nothing else.
    So, yes it was good for Wenger to win a few FA Cups, that isn't the ultimate aim of a big club and a so called world class manager.
    - Apparently Wenger invented fitness, diet and nutrition. Big Sam was already using sports science and nutrition in the 90s, whilst he was in the lower leagues.
    - 1971 - 1995 was 24 years BEFORE Wenger.
    Arsenal won 3 League Title and 0 Champions League Titles.
    1996 - 2018 was 22 years (almost an identical time frame).
    Wenger years.
    Arsenal won 3 Premier League Titles and 0 Champions League Titles.
    Did Wenger really improve Arsenal? Or did he just win what the club had already been used to wining in an almost identical timeframe.
    Yes, I know.
    The Truth Hurts.
