As I understand it the raids saved lives of a couple of people surely that is the most important issue.

We don't give criminals a voice.

I live in Opotiki. Excellent work done by the Police. Everyone wins. Maori included. The problem of meth is not just going to disappear overnight though. There are too many young people already destroyed by these drugs. Last night my wife and I were going for a walk and a lady was running along the beach trail looking for someone who had stolen her purse from out of her car at the shop. She had wet her pants she was exhausted and must have fallen over and was asking us if we had seen the cops from where we came from. I said no but I realized I saw the guy a few minutes earlier. It turned out as i got further along I found two very young boys in a ute (her ute) and they told me it was their own father who took the purse. 1+1 = methamphetamine etc. What a sad story. The cops had gone past and picked up the lady and were looking for the bloke. I had picked up a hitch hiker earlier this week who was in his twenties (I thought it was someone else I knew) and he was talking to himself (meth) and he was a wasted space. Early afternoon. His clothes reeked of days of unwashed-ness. There are many older guys in this town who are just derelicts from drugs & alcohol. Their ability to function lessens day by day. Gangs are responsible for pushing this stuff on their own people from school age young kid dealers onwards who bully their school peers. After these raids occurred a young prospect for the Barbarians (a Mongel Mob chapter) 'king hit' from behind a young school age maori guy who has recently left school while he was carrying a one year old child and was walking with her mother. The grandparents went around to the offender's house and his parents said they cannot control their kid. They should have gone to the police but are in fear of reprisal. That is how much the gangs terrorize their own people. Every maori I know was happy about these raids (and they know people who have families with gang members in them). I even speak to the guys who are struggling with drugs and alcohol (who we try to help as much as is possible) and they hate the gangs also (and some of them used to be in them) and they know them all here.

@@caravanstuff2827 Hahaha! I love living here. We live out of town by the sea. I never want to move. We used to live in Orkland. LOL. There's a lot of good things living way down here. It's a quiet little paradise. It's not as bad as the media make out at all. But thanks. Small town NZ people are great. But there are downsides everywhere.

Mike Laws is correct, Opotiki and other meth towns are now like Mexico. The gangs control the town, the council and to some extent the police.

I cringe when I hear the ‘outstanding’ TVNZ reporters/journalists referring to police as ‘cops’ and search warrants as ‘raids’.
The police aren’t warring Māori raiding a nearby village or Vikings raiding the English.
Police appoint an officer to the welfare of those present at search warrants, so what a crock of…
Strip searches, completely legal under the right circumstances. Redirected anger by the local crooks and their sympathisers.
