Fine words from an uncle Tom.
@@Duckz558 The BS (Brown Supremacy) is anything but colonial.
@@Duckz558 on behalf of the maori party
Waitangi Tribunal are a lobby group for Maori, acting well outside their remit. Hang tough David Seymour, this Bill may not get past the first reading at select committee, but it is bringing to light so many things that the average NZ'er was not aware of and therefore bring pressure on Luxon and national about what next. For example, how many people even knew that the original treaty has no principles, just 3 articles.
...and that there are two of them which are not the same.
you are factually incorrect.
then honour te tiriti o waitangi if thats the case but no you don’t want to go there either more likely same thing??
@@Duckz558 Iwi are the only ones not honouring te tiriti.
The speeches given by the chiefs at waitangi on the 5th after being presented te tiriti prove what they knew it to say.
The first to speak were against signing (many later changed their mind and signed anyway) and the rest were pro signing.
We can see from these speeches what the chiefs knew te tiriti to say and mean regarding the ceding of sovereignty in te tiriti.
These speeches prove the chiefs knew by signing they would become less than, lower than the queen and her governor even.
They also show they knew they would be subject to the queen and her laws.
These are not the words of men who thought te tiriti said they got to retain sovereignty or that they would be exempt from the queens rule or laws.
This is Maori council/iwi evidence entered into court record by them, so not biased whitey evidence.
They authenticated them as a true, full and correct translation of the words spoken by the chiefs that day.
1. Te Kemara, chief of the Ngatikawa: ......"If thou stayers as Governor, then, perhaps, Te Kemara will be judged and condemned. Yes indeed, and more than that - even hung by the neck. No, no, no: I shall never say yes to your staying. Were all to be on equality, then perhaps, Te Kemara would say "Yes", but for the Governor to be up and Te Kamara down - Governor high, up, up, up and Te Kamara down, low, small, a worm, a crawler - No, no, no."
2. Rewa, chief of the Ngaitawake tribe: "What do Natives want of a Governor? We are not whites, nor foreigners. This country is ours, but the land has gone, Nevertheless, we are the Governor - we, the Chiefs of this our father's land. I will not say Yes to the Governor’s remaining"
3. Kawiti, chief of the Ngatihine Tribe: "No, no. Go back. What dost thou want here? We Native men do not wish thee to stay. We do not want to be tied up and trodden down....... I, even I Kawiti, must not paddle this way, nor paddle that way because the Governor says No"
4. Hakiro (speaking on behalf of his chief): "I say, no, no, no. Go back, go back; Do not sit here. What wilst thou sit here for? We are not thy people. We are free. We will not have a Governor. Return. Leave us"
5. Tareha, chief of the Ngatirehia Tribe: "No Govenor for me - for us Native men. We, we only are the chiefs , rulers. We will not be ruled over. What! thou, a foreigner, up and I down! Thou high and I Tareha, the great chief of the Ngapuhi tribes , Low. No, no; never; Never;....... Yes, I say we are the Chiefs. If all were to be alike, all equal in rank with thee - but thou, the Governor up high - up, up, and I down, under beneath! No. no. no!". (1) Colenso, William. Tell iwi to honour te tiriti and the memory of the chiefs also as they ignore their words and thoughts to keep telling the lie they did not cede.
@@Tutubae88 The speeches were verified and entered into the court record by the Maori council/iwi (that's by Maori), they said the speeches matched the oral recollection of their ancestral Chiefs who were present.
Colenso was also fluent in many dialects of the Maori language (he is the one who wrote their speeches down).
The speeches have been authenticated by both sides and by both methods (Written and oral).
I will take unbiased well documented iwi backed evidence over the word of an ignorant online if ya don't mind lol

I encourage all NZers to really think about honesty and integrity in politics and encourage them to vote act. My disappointment in the nats and Luxon re all this SPEACIAL treatment towards one sector of our population based on race and colour politics disgusts me and I can't abide it. If you are going to talk the talk you need to walk the talk and support the bill all the way not say you are only going to support it through the first reading, what sort of BS is that. You either support it or you don't, stop sitting on the fence Mr luxon. I advocate for equality with equal rights and opportunities and for free speech and democracy. Roll on with the bill and with a referendum and let democracy reign, NOT RACISM. What's the point of democracy if we cannot have a say and speak out against wrongful political policy, and NZers for to long have not been able to have their say. Roll on the bill and a referendum to allow all NZers to have their say and observe their democratic rights.

Reading the Tribunal press release and summary of its criticism of the proposed bill, it makes a sweeping statement about the kawanatanga "granted" (nice) to the Crown, then opposes interpretation of Art 2 based on text and 2 "principles" then ditto Art 3 on the basis of 3 principles. Apparently "active protection" is now written in stone.
This sees an advisory body to government claiming preeminent right and privilege to comment on its own mandate.
And worse, to seek to claim Cabinet and Parliament are wrong and not formally competent to make any such changes.
Worst of all, they claim social disorder and division will arise through the legislative process.
A more cautious statutory body would at least make a disclaimer about reviewing its own mandate, and seek recusal. They would frame the limits of their information (not having seen the final text). And steer well clear of social order comment.

I know i am asking them to behave in a western/ colonial style and manner in line with democratic process.
But really their approach of bullying and intimidation is unacceptable. That will not work and what is worse any semblance of an argument will be lost in the brouhaha of shouting dancing and singing in te reo.
Grow up and have an adult conversation and transparently get those issues of Maori elite privileges and interference in government of the table.
It’s ironic to call for a “grown-up conversation” while dismissing Māori perspectives as “shouting and dancing.” The Waitangi Tribunal is a legitimate process, and the issues at hand are deeply rooted in historical injustices, not just “privileges” of Māori elites. If you’re serious about dialogue, respect the process and stop reducing complex matters to simplistic, dismissive rhetoric. Real progress comes from honest, respectful conversations, not from undermining or ignoring the voices of those affected.

Its only "controversial" because TPM cries about it non stop.
This bill is not controversial. Its been proven by a number of polls thst most New Zealanders believe in a one person one vote democracy where all votes count equally and all are equal before the Law and a judiciary that honours convention by not actively reinterpreting Laws passed by Government. Your description of this bill as controversial is a disgrace. The Ardern Government removed sedition from the crimes Act. Sedition should be immediately reinstated but with strong definitions.
The bill is controversial because the treaty has nothing to do with interfering with democracy or all being equal before the law. ACT are trying to pull of a magic trick - where some how the Treaty is a wedge in this. Which is totally not true.
😅
Your interpretation of one vote and equality does not align with the treaty and the system is not in question.

Quite a history about the Maori - put the Inca's or the Aztecs to shame in degeneration. Outcast from the Cook Islands during the 13th century as weaker primitive Neolithic people by later waves of Polynesians (Maori were from the original wave of primitive Polynesians pushed right out across the Eastern Pacific by successive stronger more advanced groups arriving from the west). They were outcast on rafts and some floated to the North East Coast of NZ driven by the South Equatorial Current and were stranded for 500 years. The weaker were pushed down to the South Island or Chathams etc. So the South Island Maori (had their own language) were the weakest of the weak. They were captured and eaten as 'Slave flesh' by the northern Maori doing raids. (Well they all ate each other - 80% of Maori pre European were dark skinned easily fattened slaves farmed and eaten by a lighter skinned 'Ariki' thin wiry elite royal caste). So it was with some righteousness as well as British cunning that they armed the southern Maori who then with muskets launched a genocidal war on the north.. That plus measles & flu halved the Maori population and removed most of the elite. The British then liberated the slaves and outlawed cannibalism. The northern Maori fought with the British against the south bad west Maori 'rebels'. The Maori sued for peace and a treaty was signed that removed all sovereignty and made them subjects to the English crown where the English would protect them from each other. Land could only be sold to or via the Crown. Maori could live on their reservations with native custom but none did. The treaty of Waitangi is strikingly clear in that the Maori cede sovereignty completely and become citizens of Great Britain - all 3 clauses lock that in. Nothing in today's 'Maori' culture is authentic. The music - all European (Maoris did not have tonal music, the songs are missionary tunes or introduced - Poi dance is from Islands and Stick dance from old Malaya. The carvings and art - all European - Arabesques that was the fashion at the time. Original Maori had limited dash carving and no painting of objects. No written language - all the syntax & grammar plus vowel inflection is European. No technology - some lagoon canoes and wood or stone Neolithic tools. No food sources - like pigs or crops - they left that all behind, all they had was a weak inbred fox (now extinct), some rats and a weak dismal pacific yam. They ate out all the bird-life including 10 species of Moa and 46 other bird species, didn't know how to farm the sea as were island people and so they turned to societal cannibalism. Today - no full blood or half blood left. No genuine tradition and almost all are offspring of Maori slave females sold to white settlers for muskets or food. -So more fake than the 'Sioux' or 'Cherokee' or 'Crow' who had at least retained some genuineness about who they were and their history. -Everything you 'saw or experienced' is fake. A totally convected disneyfied tokenistic set of inventions fueled by a grievance culture of mixed-race imposters fetishing a false past bad history because it pays benefits. Mr Seymour is onto it all he can do is drop the ball at this point which i don't think he will do will lux or winston run with him? Who knows. How about modernization of the treaty or "constitution" as some people refer to it.
Can we please start using the term ethno-nationalists to refer to those who think they should have superior rights to everyone else because of their ancestry?
That's the whole foundation of British colonisation of Aotearoa. Ironic isn't it?
'No I can tell you it didn't even occur to me that might be the case' (???) Is he not on top of things then? Is he very forgetful? Can't do is job properly? Or, is he lying? I think he is lying.
Maoris have lied for 50 years we are fixing it the gravy train is over

@@StGammon77 Not to mention the Americas cup. and all that other privileged activities thats cost us money.
Typical David Seymour misquotes the Treaty, using words "rights and duties" the correct wording is actually "RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES", total different meaning. Sad to pursue such a divisive legislation..
Yes! A very dishonest actor
No it's duties
@@StGammon77 Says who?
Um, I’m pretty sure you mean that the Treaty wording is “imparts to them all the Rights and Privileges of British Subjects”. So same, same as what David is saying. No SPECIAL privilege at all. Who is being the misleading little monkey now?
@StGammon77 incorrect, you are quoting the English version. The only version recognised in international law which NZ is a party too is the Maori version.

@@byronogram710 when money comes from tax payers to fund the Tribunal and any claims, it is about ALL New Zealanders.......we are all involved whether you like it or not, so we have a duty to this country to pay taxes and also a duty to say where it goes and who manages it, thats done through democracy, voting in a gvt to manage it.
