And people wonder why immortals urge us not to join them. Unless there is some sort of interuniversal travel (something I believe to be possible but not feasible for our current level of technology and power supply) then any immortal ends up just like 682. Luckily for some, they're psuedo-immortal. Unaging, maybe unable to get sick, but can be fatally wounded. But in 682's case, his immortality is absolute. Again. Kinda why I always see immortality as a curse. It’s good for the first one thousand years but after the complete eradication of life on earth and the universe, what’s the point in continuing living if your the last thing on this planet?
Im pretty certain 682 will outlive even the heat death of the universe. He is the embodyment of the inenevitable end afterall. You can fight him/it. But you can only slow him/it down. Never beat 682/the end.
682's fate cannot be this way. If the universe "dies out" or humans escape in the metal tubes, does that mean that they also took 059 with them. Isn't she immortal? I appreciate the production of this illustration, and you've done a great job. It does seem that 682 is kinda lazy, there's not much character development or desire. Can you imagine being a researcher and finding a planet sized chart of all the stars that were in the galaxy, Going back trillions and trillions of years in the past? Detailing in order, witch were first, witch died first and witch appeared last? I'm still struggling to imagine what it would feel like.
Imagine any fantasy world in which the author does all they can to describe how things look. You will stretch your imagination as far as it can go trying to fit all the detail into some form of mental image. As a researcher, you would be able to compile all the data, drawn into the earth into a model of the sky, and you would see just how much that one lonely being had witnessed.
You would feel sadden at it all seeing how many stars there were how much light there was but all of it is gone the only memory of it is edged into a dead withered world almost mimicing the universe around you both cold dead dark they knew there was a creature there as well they looked at it as the keeper of time but they would have felt sad for it since it would have to watch the universe as each light went out and become absorbed by the darkness all around
After the sun shrank the planet would have cooled and died, the land not eroding or moving, the earth would be smooth until he came to make his charts. No air to blow the sand or dust around. Nothing but him to disturb the planet of charts
He is called the starkeeper because he kept a map of all the stars, something that no longer exists. They know he’s been there longer than all of them, he is the only one who knows. They looked at his markings, that’s all they know about stars anymore.

I remember a quote ones "It's not a matter of what happens when we get immortality, but the real question is what happens when an immortal wants to die"
It really depends on the type of immortality. If your immortality includes invulnerability then yes you can never die. I wonder if 096 is weeping alone at the bottom of some dried molten crag, having avoided 682 all this time. Even after so long he would still remember their encounter and strive to avoid another. Weeping alone. Face in hands. Unable to realize that there was nobody left who could see his face. Weeping alone, never to accept that he had nothing left to fear.
@Troy Sanchez You all missed the point after eons after the bombs dropped the humans came back to earth to say sorry to "The StarKeeper" AKA the lizard so HE sat on his own bed made by the humans for all the miss treatment for 682. He was called The StarKeeper because when he was alone the only thing he could do is make star constellations but after they all disappeared he just sat in the darkness which is why the humans were careful with the lines on the ground.
@@Luna-mo4bp Makes sense, and because he stopped making star charts on the planet, they thought he was dead. And they probably used these charts to find new systems and new planets to live, but for some reason never went to investigate who it actually was that was making them. Once all the stars died, and once he had nothing else to do the humans had no where else to go but back home, where they said their peace to the one who gave them countless homes, before flying back to space to die out or wait out the Eternal Darkness, presumably at this point in their world ships....makes me wonder that if 682 had shown himself, would they have invited him into their ship and to where they live? And will they ever return to say prayers again.
@@bibby659 Yeah humans probably died out since of the darkness. It did say hundreds of those ship things flew just over earth most likely running away from the darkness. It would've been really cool to see 682 get on the ship but if you don't know this yet 682 hates everything as a "I'm going to kill you" hate. Even if the humans saved him for a couple of weeks of boredom he would most likely kill them rather than waiting their end with the darkness.
The idea of 682 watching the stars and "feeling a pang of joy when one of them died" seems both very in-character and oddly cute. The only issue is, I think he might be kind of okay with all of this. He finds life disgusting, after all. Eternal nothingness might be preferable to that kind of suffering, especially given that humans actively torture him. There *is* a really interesting point at the end, though. If SCP-682 became marginally more tolerant of life after the end of most of the Universe, when it just served to break up the monotony rather than totally overwhelming him with its presence all around, I can easily see humans treating him as somehow divine. In this scenario he's a true immortal, after all. His memory of the Universe will eventually be the last thing left of it, and if he one day finds himself in a new Universe that springs up in the endless void, he'll bring that with him. On some level, it's a way to metaphorically live forever alongside him.
The fact that he didn’t attack what seemed to be humans when they landed after so long, It seems like the end of it all can even change/have an effect on a life hating monster like 682.

At the end of the end: 682 has consumed all matter in the emtiness and has grown to the size of the universe. "Come back..." And he converted all that matter into heat energy, creating the big bang.
Was more like an expansion then a bang and it takes a lot more than just heat energy Also it needs particles that we don't know if they exist. 682 would need to be able to take the singularity or hawking radiation of a black hole Also even if he consumes the earth and the black dwarf Sun he will need a way to propell himself to other stars ,cold dark stars ,dead neutron stars and other black dwarfs also probably iron stars then he will have to be faster than light to go to another galaxy (universe expansion also is tricky as in the more space it makes the faster it can make more so technically it can expand faster then light despite what you may think since its not moving simply making more. That is how the universe is really big despite even though IF you be as fast as light it'd be impossible to go from one side of the universe to the other. The way things are today Also 682 would need to be able to reverse entropy (even with his abilities that's still probably out of his power range) and he will need a theory of everything to KNOW what he be doing

Now I’m imagining this:
682, hunched over a laptop, fumbling with the keys and trying to google things like this, with bad grammar:
“Where did stars go”
“How type”
“What 2 do when humanity disappears”
“Why are the blinky lights disappearing”
“Can you talk to me”
“How do I undo death”
“Whats that weird box symbol in the corner that’s red”
“Why does it say I have 2%”
**furiously throwing dead laptop out the window**
I like how he begrudgingly tolerated humanity at the end and even rested atop that guys grave after they did his last rights. Realising humanity was his reason to exist and feeling bad about how they'd be gone eventually too just like everything else.

that makes sense, fair enough.
What would you do with immortality?
Outlive love
Outlive creations
Outlive destruction and war
Outlive darkness
Outlive the point of death
Frankly it still astonishes me that their are people who ask for a blessing, and only receive a curse when their wish has been granted
its aging the poeple hate
It would be great, but the madness will begin and the immortal one will beg for death and it will not come.
Genies don't even have to twist your words, immortality is already sh*t.
Isn't there a curse about may you get what you wish for?
Don't know if it's just me, but SCP-682's fate seems incredibly sad
Not just you. I'm literally crying bc of it
At the end of the end: 682 has consumed all matter in the emtiness and has grown to the size of the universe.
"Come back..."
And he converted all that matter into heat energy, creating the big bang.
Was more like an expansion then a bang and it takes a lot more than just heat energy
Also it needs particles that we don't know if they exist.
682 would need to be able to take the singularity or hawking radiation of a black hole
Also even if he consumes the earth and the black dwarf Sun he will need a way to propell himself to other stars ,cold dark stars ,dead neutron stars and other black dwarfs also probably iron stars then he will have to be faster than light to go to another galaxy (universe expansion also is tricky as in the more space it makes the faster it can make more so technically it can expand faster then light despite what you may think since its not moving simply making more.
That is how the universe is really big despite even though IF you be as fast as light it'd be impossible to go from one side of the universe to the other. The way things are today
Also 682 would need to be able to reverse entropy (even with his abilities that's still probably out of his power range) and he will need a theory of everything to KNOW what he be doing
@@ratsass7201 this dumbass saying 682 cant survive a blacks Hole radiation, there was an SCP test with an SCP notebook were they asked how to kill 682, basically they had to create over a thousend million bombs, Nuke the moon with 682 on it and yet 0.23 ml of 682 blood survived evolved became the size of Jupiter and destroyed earth.
It doesnt matter what, it doesnt matter if his atoms get ripped apart to nothing he always comes back.
He litterally once was applied an SCP that Made him fully Vanish from existance, and a few days later he just appeared no one knows how or why, it just happens
@@Dr_Weirdoo source? Also he died from SCP-2935 so he's not truly immortal
@@crab_computer source i'm pretty sure it's the termination log
And 2935 basically kills every single living and non living thing, it's obvious it Will kill 682 but no one Will trigger it cause well... Kills everything
Wait wait wait, so scp 682 consumes all, to creat all, therefore creating an infinite loop of his own destruction and reincarnation
*We dream of immortality when really it's the worst torture to dream of*
I would rather be the type of immortal where you just can't die of old age but can still be killed
Erik McKoul
We may have that in 10-20 years.
It is. Those you love will die, you can't join them, you can't age, you'll stay in your body for the rest of time. You can never rest.
true, but depends on what type of immortality, there's never aging, and there is indestructibility, or or really powerful regeneration

There are so many stories where 682 gets killed, tortured, and hurt. Sometimes you forget that he will outlive almost everything.
The amount of time he must have waited, we can’t comprehend it.
Nicholas Arvanitis hell, maybe quentillion years isnt even enough
Marion Pastor yep, it said like a trillion trillion, even for a being like 682, you would loose yourself, regain yourself, then loose yourself again, many times.
682 has done horrific things but even he doesn't deserve something like that,it's just too much.
SCP 682 is my favorite SCP, and I feel like he does not deserve such a cruel fate, I mean, solitary confinement is a punishment for a reason
