I was born in Canton (St David's Hospital) back in '64 and moved out in '88. Absolutely adored the Canton (and Cardiff) of my youth and early 20's. Having gone back more recently, it's a crying shame how Canton has turned out. It has lost masses of independent shops and businesses of all types, big and small - Franklins was the best bakery in Canton, possibly in all Cardiff, and their pasties were to die for. I loved the window displays in Pope's Camera shop around the corner from the Napier Pub, just past the phone box and opposite what used to be Woolworths. When I was 20 I worked in Splott at the STAR leisure centre, and would walk from my family home in Canton to the STAR and back at the end of my shift. Never once did I ever feel in danger or ill at ease. Not sure I could say that today.
I hope you buy a sturdier umbrella someday since it rains often. I so wanted to see inside the thrift stores! I wish I lived there, so many shops, it reminds me of my childhood in the early 1960s, lots of small shops then on the south side of Chicago. I loved you telling of your childhood.
St. David is the patron Saint of Wales, celebrated on March 1st. I found his well know phrase, "Gwenwch y pethau bychain mewn bywyd", Do the little things in Life. Thanks for the tour of your childhood neighborhood.
I live in the CANTON area, it’s always been full of different kind of amenities lots of charity shops and bakeries and fruit food shops. However, it has had some renovation as of 2022, and it’s looking a bit tidier I’m not so scruffy now. It’s about 20 minutes away from the city centre by foot about 10 minutes by car perfect location but if you need obviously a little extra you go into the city centre but CANTON is generally a nice area. Xx
This is so different from other city walks through Cardiff where vloggers will normally stick to the commercial area of city centre and the Bay. I enjoy those vlogs but this I find as interesting, seeing an inner suburb of Cardiff. It would be good if you took a walk from the city centre up through Tredegarville and City Road to Albany Road and Wellfield Road. St David´s Hospital - many locals still call it that - is a day hospital now with clinics etc., and the main building at the front has been converted into flats, like a lot of iconic buildings and pubs in Cardiff. Even St Jame´s church on Newport Road is now a collection of ´luxury´appartments now. But at least the buidling still stands. Thank you so much for this vlog. I enjoyed it immensely. Come back soon!
Shame the weather let you down there Imo... cool mosaics :) I love the reflection in the pavement too. Cool exploring with you :) cool car charging point :) nice town love. a nice bakers. Looks like a nice spot to eat.. though its huge!!
Hi,I'm a new subscriber, your channel was recommended by UA-cam,and I'm glad it was.Ive had a look through some of videos, and you are a lovely down to earth woman.Im 41 from doncaster and I love walking,I try and do it daily, but currently moving so I'm a bit busy.I saw that you take biotin for hair growth,I've got really fine hair,I had it cut off in a pixie cut to get rid of years of damage, and not looking after it,but I know want to try and grow it again,so I'm going to order some biotin to see if it helps.I will watch more later when I'm relaxing.Take care.xx
Oh yes! There used to be! When I was little it flooded up to about Tescos and I lived just beyond that, so escaped. But I rememebr all the sandbags and the trees having litter in the branches for ages afterwards after the river had gone back down. After that, they reinforced the banks and I don't think it ever happened again. My friend tells me that she canoed down Cowbridge Road at the time!
Really loving these little exploration videos! Never seen a school in a shopping area before - wondering if they have playing fields behind the shops or if they have to leave the site for P.E.? 😄
I think because they are primary schools, they just have enclosed concrete yards, but the high schools and comps have proper fields and sports facilities? That’s my best guess anyway! Thanks so much, Kittikoko. I like making these sorts of vlogs, too and they keep me fit in the process! 😆
Thanks, Karen. I really, really hope we can get out there some time this year. I'm watching the Covid situation and will book something once I feel the time is right. I can't wait!!😆

I was born at St David’s Hospital! Thanks for showing it. We only lived in the area until I was 11 months old so I obviously don’t remember it. Xx

Nice Welsh weatherx
I know! At its best today! Thanks, Donny.
I know it might sound odd to some but I do like to walk in the rain.
Perhaps because the rain makes it a little less peopley.
Lovely video Imo 😊
That’s true. And a little bit extraordinary and I love the sound of rain on an umbrella. Thanks, Alex.
Is there a flood risk in the Canton area?
There was back in the day. I was there when the Taff came over and there were boats on Cowbridge Rd! Our house just escaped.
Oh yes! There used to be! When I was little it flooded up to about Tescos and I lived just beyond that, so escaped. @@PlanetImo then we were in a similar spot. We're in Denton Road just off St John's.

Hi from Ukraine
You could always start a second career as a Cardiff city tour guide :)
I think I'd actually enjoy that.
