Took a screenshot. I will definitely be trying to acquire some of those. I myself have a couple good books on using plants for medical purposes. How to use and identify and such. Thanks for another great informative video. Hope everyone that reads this has a great day 💯 Blessings to all 🙏🇺🇲
I believe the pamphlets you mentioned are available from Storey publishing. They're now Storey's Country Wisdom bulletins and the pamphlets are available on Amazon.
That Boy Scout manual helped me recover from a spider bite. I had the Foxfire series. My go to for preserving food is Putting Food By. Of course all the TMEN magazines. I have some on woodworking/repair and some on small engine repair. Studs Terkel's Hard Times tells accounts from people who survived the Great Depression. Guess you can tell I'm not going anywhere. Not at my age.
Great selections MR! As to those great older booklets (of which I have several myself), Garden Way Publishing was acquired by Storey in about 1982. Storey continued to publish their booklets under the new name "Country Wisdom Bulletins" and expanded the titles to cover about 260 topics. Storey Publishing changed hands over the years and is now part of the Hachette Book Group. Some of the Country Wisdom Bulletin titles are still available new from Hachette Book Group, while used copies of the other titles can often be found in used bookstores online and in brick-and-mortar stores. Additionally, the information from about 200 of the old Country Wisdom Bulletins has been compiled in one larger (1072 pages!) book, "Country Wisdom & Know-How," that is available on Amazon and elsewhere.
I bought a lot of books in the 70's, how-to stuff, Mother Earth News, gardening, etc... I just wanted to have them but wasn't really focused on preparing... strange how that works. Thanks MR 😎👍
Love my old Boy Scout manual I got when I was a boy in the 50's...long ago and far away...another one I like is "Cache Lake Country" by John Rowlands, lots of great ideas ... a fun cook book is the "L.L. Bean Game and Fish Cook Book" by Angus Cameron and Judith Jones...lots of great receipes and stories about hunting camp...I also have 25 years worth of Mother Earth News, the very early ones, and same with Countryside magazine...
Dave Canterberry’s books can be had as a set. I got it on Amazon at a significant discussion not long ago. Wealth of information for sure! God’s Book says “of the making of books there is no end”. He is right, as always!
Interesting you mentioned the library. I always suggest that people 1st check out the library before buying a book (unless it is cheap and one of a kind such as you may find at a thrift store). You may find that the book you want to buy isn't worth it or that there is a better book on the subject. Also look at the books they are taking out of service some good bargains there.
Heyyyy, my comment bears fruit! I was so pleased to see this. Thanks for providing an update on your collection. I promise I won't go hunting through your archives to see what other videos I want updates on. 🤣🤣
Great recommendations. Some of my favorites are the mini books for my kits. Like the Collins Gem boks. Like SAS book and Food for free. I put a kit together for a bob with a 6 inch cooking pot and filled it with the survival stuff and the mini books secured with an X bandclosure band from litesmith doot komm I'm thinking of putting some in my truck glove box. I like the small size that covers the basics.
I've learned a lot from the Collins Gems and other pocket sized reference books as you will take them out and use them. The doing the thing in the real world makes it stick in your memory more and it just adds something to being out in the woods.
Funny another morning checking on a critter problem there was the alert on that you had a video ... well great I am making time to go through my old book collect inspiring thanks Brother... too bad we did not have a place we could share info ... well done
Cody Lundin, David Canterbury's co-host on Duel Survival wrote one called When All Hell Breaks Loose. Very comprehensive, all around good prepping and survival manual.
I purchased quite a few of the Storey Country Wisdom Bulletins from Amazon and also my local book store. Enjoy them very much as they explain the basics and you don't get bogged down in a lot of information.
I have all the Steve Rinella books ( complete guide to) , great resources for people who aren't completely squared away in regards to hunting , processing and cooking wild game.
Yes, I started out as a kid with just Scout books and Loftys SAS Survival Guide as that's all that I could get then. The books are one of those things I could have in the thousands and still think i don't have enough. I would recommend a few on trades skills too because no one has the money for tradespeople in an economic decline and those skills are good bartering things once you get better at them.
I tend to steer away from prepper books and go for dedicated subject matter, more detail to be found. Always prefer the pre 94 ones too (not contaminated with blog drivel).
"Eat the weeds" is an identification and scavenging book. I found an old book at library sale rack called "Putting things bye", which covers all the old food prrp ways.
