Hello Josh. Great video. 75 years ago I lived in a town called Moshi, which was close to Arusha, in the Highlands of Tanganyika (Tanzania).
Our lounge had a massive wall to wall window which framed our view of Mt. Kilamanjaro. We were within driving distance of the base of Mt. Kilamanjaro. To this day, I have that scene firmly etched in my memory. Absolutely Awesome 👌😀

Thanks Josh for covering Boeing 707 at the junk-yard, because my first ever Boeing flight was on a 707 more than 45 years ago. I used to wonder if any country is still using it anymore. Nice of you to take us through this episode where we have some glimpse of 707. Good to see you and Noel together.

Hello Josh, your videos are amazing. I noticed the French Caravelle in this video, I worked for UAL in North America in the 60ies and 70ies. UAL had 20 French Sud-Est Aviation Caravelle jets, all configured in 64 all first class 2 X 2 seating. They had 2- Rolls-Royce engines with thrust reversers, and we always knew when one landed because of the extra noise from the reversers. They only flew on short flights, i.e. Newark to Chicago, etc and all East of the Rockies. All were retired in the 70ies and were sent to Denver for retirement. Great memories. Thanks again for this amazing video.

    • @timothytodd6005

Yes, I saw the Caravelle too and wondered why the guys didn't have a look around it on camera. Neat thing about the Caravelle were the fantastic looking triangular windows! And the tail fin set up was a bit different. French design flair in action on that aircraft, I just wish I had been able to fly in one!

Nice to see ATC still going strong. Used to live in Dar in the early 90s and flew on their couple of old 737 200s. The cabin crew would serve you drinks from a wooden crate bought in the market and I still recall one pilot doing a tree top approach to Dar airport to impress his girlfriend who lived up the coast. All good stuff.

My sister and l used to fly 707s from Heathrow to Singapore in the late 50s/early 60s. We were always in school uniform and given barley sugar sweets and hot towels. The plane stopped numerous times and we had to get off and wait for refuelling and or fumigating..Karachi. The smell on landing at Paya Lebar was redolent of the east. Loved the 707. A great and gracious flying experience.

Apparently the old control tower at the airport still has the bullet holes from the 1976 raid in which Israeli commandos rescued hostages from a hijacked Air France A300. Very cool! As a kid, I used to got to work with my father (a USAF hydraulics specialist) when he had to work on holidays. I would get to ride around on the tarmac with him going aircraft to aircraft. After Vietnam, he was stationed at Andrew’s Air Force Base, and assigned to VIP aircraft (could tell you exactly what it was called). I got the chance to run around on AF1 when it was a 707. I still remember it being plush in it’s day. I know it didn’t hold a candle to the 747s in use today. But there are probably a lot more rules these days then back then about having your kid running around the flight lines.

    Hey Josh,
I really love to see an 707 still present, since they scrapped "mine" here in Germany during the pandamic...
But the one I used to see regularly and have been inside for a few times, was in a much better shape than the one you visited.
Still, it would be lovely if some people would find the interest to restore this proud bird instead of doing it the stupid "German way!"
One tip for you and Noel for your next visit to Africa:
There is a L1011 Tristar from "Rum Air" an former ANA Plane, sitting in Cotonou, Benin, right at the beach, next to the airport. It's engines have been removed, sadly, and it is not looking too well from the outside, but according to reports I found, it looks still pretty much intact inside, accept the very rear.
When I was there two and a half month ago, it was closed for tours inside - I was really mad! But at least I could have a great walk around the beauty, touching it, even opening a latch...(which made my host very nervous due to a small beach police station in vision range ;-) )
The Tristar even protected my fellows and me from heavy rain, sitting on its main gear!
A rare spotting was an IL 76 at the airport, just arriving, when I returned from the beach!
Maybe with either of your contacts, you will have more luck to check out a very rare L1011 Tristar even from the inside at Cotonou beach if you find the chance to visit this small but neat country!

Fantastic video with the two of you! If you added in Jeb Brooks and each took turns reviewing one another's favorite flights and worst flights, what might those videos look like? :) Thanks for always being such a great reviewer!

I flew on a 707 back in 1974, and I think in 1975. I know I flew a DC-8 from Bangkok to Copenhagen via Tashkent in 1975. I'm not sure why the DC-8 doesn't get the love.

When I was doing my National Service in the SADF 87/88 I think the plane I flew on a few times between Waterkloof AFB, PRETORIA and Ondangwa AFB, South West Africa (then) was a 707.
Iwas shit scared coz it looked old.I know wings bounce a bit these wings flapped. A long thin plane.
    I prefferred the C130.
Ive also had the good fortune of being the cockpit of an SAA flite from Joburg to Cape Town in 2001.My ex- wife's cousin was the pilot.Fantastic experience and largely settled my fear of flying.
Then came Sep 2001 and visits to the flite deck were stopped.

The 707 still the best looking plane to me ever might be that I was in the Airforce as security police and seen them all the time

I am terrified of spiders as well. One time I walked right into a web with the large spider on it, and I freaked out. I was crying and screaming “get it off of me”. To this day I am still traumatized by it. Makes me shudder just to think about it. Yuck.

When it comes to airports, I grew up in the New York City area and always flew out of Newark and LaGuardia (JFK was only for the big special trips) so I've grown up to have very low expectations on airports.

I flew the B707 back in the 1960s, one of the best Air planes ever built. I flew back from VN on a 707 weren't to bad. 👍🏼

A220 baby. I'll always associate that beauty with Bombardier but appreciate Airbus.
