Best explanation I have seen for a slat bed, simply superb! Thank you. Equalize height of slats to any existing fixed bed portion. Groove in the sliding section frame to move more freely on wood rail. Washer to create clearance on moving slats but not fixed slats. Flip all slats with smooth edge facing mattress so no snags. Round out sharp edges of slats. Chamfer the edges of the moving slat close to wall so they glide on top of the fixed rail support. Small gap between every slat so they move freely and mattress has good air flow (no mold). Cut legs of moving side a sliver shorter so they move easily. Bed must pass Black Cat Inspection Team! Another good video dude. A lot of guys using curved slats make the mistake of screwing the slat at both ends. The curve is designed to flex when weight comes on it, so for that reason you only screw one end giving the free end somewhere to go. Good work lad.

Of course! Just completed the bed this week, and delighted with the result; had to watch your video a few times! Not due to lack of clarity on your part, rather due to mine. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much again. All the best from Tarifa, Spain.
I wouldn’t say your instruction is “as simple as this”. I rarely rate or subscribe but I did give u a thumbs up! I’ve wanted to make one of these for my tiny off grid (recreation) cabin but all the videos I’ve watched never quite added up. I always thought there was drag and/or pinchin issues that I never saw a fix for except in ur vid. Thanks for sharing this. Already drawing up the plans now, knowing to edge off the slider rail corner and front legs! Thanks again.
Thank you, some great tips!!! Only thing you didn't mention was that you changed the order of slats that you pull out to the ones screwed to the wall support. When you explained the workings (the cut out of the sliders and the washers to put under the slide out slats etc), you had the order of slats different to when you finished and pulled it out - the last slats left and right ON the slide out section, the correct version. I've seen the mistake done of screwing the first and last slats to the fixed frame, and I thought you would point it out as a mistake to avoid. Just trying to be helpful! Sorry if it has been posted before, didn't read all comments before writing.
Thanks, man! I'm planning on doing this type of bed in my camper, and I'm super glad I found your video. Simple, straight forward and we'll thought out. Cheers for sharing!

These are EXACTLY the tips that I needed for what I hope to build soon. Thank you so much!!
You are absolutely welcome thank you for taking the time to comment really appreciate it good luck with your build 👍😊👍
This video has just saved me throwing my toolbox across the garden 🤣
I'm converting my camper with no experience of anything useful and today have built beds...pull out beds..and they work
Great video cheers:-)
That is awesome!
This is truly the cleanest design. Thank you for sharing.
Trang you are absolutely welcome thank you for your positive encouragement really appreciated 👍🤓👍
Excellent job, very simple to follow and it's given me confidence to try it out for myself!
You can do it!👍👍👍
Love your design, style, fabricating method and your cat, especially!! I am going to try this in a Toyota sienna minivan!
Thank you that’s really kind of you to say good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
Another good video dude. A lot of guys using curved slats make the mistake of screwing the slat at both ends. The curve is designed to flex when weight comes on it, so for that reason you only screw one end giving the free end somewhere to go. Good work lad.
Thank you 🙏
Thank you! This was my problem during my build. I will be fixing what I did and move forward.
You are absolutely welcome thank you for taking the time to comment good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
Hi Mel 👋 I hope your doing OK? Thanks for making this 📹 video. I'm converting my Peugeot Partner Tepee into a microcamper-van for wild camping 🏕 & days bushcrafting in the woods. I've been scratching my head for months wondering how to do it. Now thanks to you I've found my solution. I'm going to follow your video to help me build my bed 😬 🗜 🙏 🛏 off to B&Q tomorrow night for some wood & washers. Ready for a Saturday bed building session. Thanks again for sharing x
You are absolutely welcome thank you for taking the time to comment it’s always nice to hear that people found my videos useful good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
Copied this method for an extending bed for toyota hi ace van. Works perfectly. When i need more room in van when not camping i slide foot of bed back. Thanks for great video. Cheers Richard
Thank you 🙏
Thanks Mel ,I'm gonna go for an upgrade now
Just the video I needed for my build. Knew you wouldn’t let me down Mel. Thank you and keep up the great work. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you that’s really kind of you to say good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
Thanks a lot Mel, this has worked an absolute treat for me Blinding idea 👌🏼👍🏼
You’re welcome glad to hear it helped 👍
Legend! Your tips with the washer and space built in to move was incredibly helpful. Thanks! Cabinets next!

Hay dude you are absolutely welcome good luck with your build and thanks for the positive message really appreciated 👍😊👍
Best video I've seen so far on this subject. Good job!
Thank you for taking the time to comment and for the positive feedback really appreciated good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
You just saved me from a very annoying mistake I was sure to make with the levels of both parts! Thanks ;)
You’re absolutely welcome I hope I earned your subscription 👍🤓👍
You’re absolutely welcome thanks for the thumbs up 👍🤓👍
Cat approved! I get a chuckle out of you Mel. Best of all you keep it simple for complex minds like mine.
Thank you it’s always nice to get a positive message really appreciated 👍🤓👍
This is the best video about a sliding bed. 👍👍👍
Thank you 😊
@@BigVanSmallWorld What is the height of your bench- bed please?
The best videos on you tube simple easy to follow instructions with great content keep up the good work mate
Thank you that’s really kind of you to say 👍😊👍
Well done no need to say sorry I just like to keep things as simple as I can 👍
Definitely do this in my van looks so sturdy! And so well explained!
Thank you for taking the time to comment and good luck with your project 👍🤓👍
Thanks, man! I'm planning on doing this type of bed in my camper, and I'm super glad I found your video. Simple, straight forward and we'll thought out.
Cheers for sharing!
You are absolutely welcome thanks for taking the time to comment really appreciate it good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld thanks! I'll let you know how it goes!
You make it look simple, I think I will give it a go for the new bed
Go for it 🤓👍
hi ya mel what great guy and the best video on making a slide out bed cant wait to get started putting one in my vw campervan .looking forward to next vid.
Thanks 👍
This video is one of the most informative video of this kind. Thank you!
Thank you good luck with your build 👍😊👍
Love this, thinking of using this for the bench in my van instead of just a bench so that guests have somewhere to sleep
Thank you and good luck with your build 👍😊👍
Finally I understand how it works. all the others struggle pulling the beds out. I’ve one question about the washers. Video was a bit low volume at that part.
So they just lay between the 2 screws? How do they not fall off ?
Thank you you screw through the middle of the washers 👍
Wooow incroyable merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo 😊 i understood everything and better than i vbeen watching before
Thnx so much i was looking for the perfect vidéo and your’s is the best one 👍🏾
Thank you good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
Great video, short simple and to the point. For those amongst us that have trouble getting started measurements of the wood would be helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
@@BigVanSmallWorld very, I now have one in my van.
Wow, best video on a slide out bed. Just what I needed and thanks for sharing this.
Glad it was helpful!
How simple is that actually the best demo I’ve seen and the front legs being 5mm shorter is a great idea. Well done Mell smashed it again
Thank you I did more detail just for you mate 🤙🤓
1 to 2 mm should be sufficient.
Mel’s Van World , Thank you sir . Oh I’m getting into trouble on one of this videos replies, funny really the subject is about a pull out bed and some plonker is suggesting a Murphy bed will be far better. 😉
Great video Mel, I'm going to safe this vid and give it a hand myself, might save me alot of money if I do it right first time round!
Go for it!
very nice video mate, thanks
Perfect sliding bed, thanks. I'll be building one for my transit connect in the next couple of days.
Thank you and good luck with your build
You say there are dozens of videos online showing how this is done but none of them have ever suggested using the washers or having tghe small cut-outs ! Well done Mel - excellent information :)
Your welcome glad you enjoyed it and hopefully find the information useful 🤙🤓
