  • SunRail is a commuter train for the greater Orlando, Florida area. The train serves downtown Orlando as well as communities to both the north and south. Service began in 2014 and continues to increase in popularity each year. In this video, we will explore the SunRail system as we watch commuter trains zipping by various different locations on the SunRail system.

Incredible video!! I love the SunRail. Tracks are only about a mile away from my house, so I see it just about daily. SunRail recently wrapped some of their passenger cars in giant advertisements, and personally I really like them!

I really like SunRail. They have a unique feel with those short consists, funny horns, strange but interesting MP32PH-Q locomotives, and the very last Non-CEM Bombardier Bi-Level Cab Cars ever built. I would like to go to Orlando and see them in person.
Though, imagine how the P5s on the MP32s would sound if they got rid of the boxes and moved them up to the roof!

Now that would be cool. SunRail is a really neat operation. Interesting equipment, a nice paint scheme, and a good route. It'll be neat to see how it grows in the future.

Those are P5's on the MP32's? I thought they were K5LL's like what LIRR uses. They definitely need to be mounted outside and folks just need to live with the horns.

Sun Rail's MP32PH-Q locomotives were built by Wabtec subsidiary, Motive Power Industries, in Boise, ID. The locos ride on a pair of B-B trucks and are powered by a 645-prime mover rated at 3000 hp. The MP32s also feature a streamlined MPXpress-cab, which totally hides the the fact that the units had been originally built as GP40 freight engines and had later served MARC as GP40-CWH2 commuter power. The 645 power-plants were totally rebuilt or replaced, and new electrical / electronics installed throughout the units.

It’s interesting how the rear half of the loco is built differently that all other MPI Xpresses

    • @dave6695
      @dave6695 4 роки тому

The rear half began as a GP40 that was rebuilt by MK (Morrison Knudsen) with wide nose cabs taken from retired BN F45 and FP45 locomotives, an HEP generator and a frame stretch for MARC (Maryland Area Rail Commuter/Baltimore, Md.). When MARC retired the units they were traded back to MK (by now MPI: Motive Power Industries) as credit on new MPI MP36 locomotives. When Sunrail began they contracted with MPI for locomotives an the result is this odd looking unit with an MP36 nose/cab and a carbody resembling an SD45. The SD45 style radiators are from SD45's used in another MK rebuilding project that is too long and not germane to this video.

  • @ralphsmith242

This is where it's such a shame that the Americans don't make DMUs any more. These locomotives have such massive tonnage and horsepower for towing just two Bombardier carriages. It must cost a fortune and the emissions don't bear thinking about. Is the Colorado/US railcar company really dead and buried? Their bilevel DMUs would have been ideal.

  • @DC4260Productions

Bth the locos and cab cars have different horns from other commuter opeartors' trains. Does anyone know what type they are?

Sometime in the future could you do a video on the Virginia Railway Express (VRE).

Where did they even put the horn? It seems so quiet.

1:48 P3 horn? They should have stations at Disneyworld and Universal studios. Never heard of this commuter line.

The back of the locomotives are like a gp38 or sd40, with a mp36 cab.

    The locomotive is like a mix of a MP36 and a SD45

SunRail, Is good, the trains just need more bombardier coaches and maybe a diner.

Doesn't SunRail ever add an extra coach if needed?

They do. There have been many 3-car SunRails lately. They've actually wrapped a few of their cars in giant advertisements as well, but those weren't shown in this video for some reason. I do have a couple of videos of em on my channel tho.

I think these clips were shot a while ago, before those wraps were added. The wraps do look nice, though.

@@superbaddy4 Yes, these were filmed last April as part of my Florida trip. This is the last of the Florida videos from that trip.
