- Trying to organize some more hardware. Extending the popular Harbor Freight Storage Containers with additional bin sizes. I design a complete range of 3D printable bins to fit the Harbor Freight medium size 20 bin storage containers. This gives me a range of options that should cover most of my hardware and small parts storage needs here in the workshop.
Then I design a series of custom inserts to store my Ryobi cordless tool accessories and search for a filament to match the Ryobi Green.
UPDATE: I have found a filament which I feel is an even closer match to the Ryobi Green. it is called Lulzbot Green and I've got a link to it below

Love what your doing with storage. I'm building a house with a 16'x32' woodworking shop and need to address storage. I'm what people call "tight" with my money so using Harbor Freight Storage Containers vs. (insert any other brand here) that costs more isn't where I like to go. Getting the job done and done right at the least cost, without sacrificing quality is what I'm all about and you've definitely hit my "tight" button = I just subscribed. Looking forward to more of your content.

that toaster looks pretty cool
That is a retrofit kit called Controleo3. They provide all the heat shielding and controls to turn a toaster oven into a pretty capable reflow oven.

I am looking to 3d print bins to hold small electronic components like resistors without them making it into the bin next to them. That happens when you have the bin in your back pack on the way to and from class. Think I will make a custom system.

Great work!- I love the bins. I have been printing functional parts for several years now. PLA is promoted as the easy to print and non-warping but I have found it to be more trouble than PETG in many cases. Also if I leave the PETG parts in the car on a hot summer day they don't melt.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I have been happy with ABS for those hot summer day problems and the printer does well with it. Only limiting factor here was I a really wanted to match that Ryobi green and couldn't get any ABS in that color. I used PETG to print the initial leg standoffs for my printer enclosure so it could hold up to the ABS temperatures but that is about all I've ever done with it. I do enjoy the smell of PLA but that is about it really.. LOL
@@PeteRondeau I have never printed ABS because of the smell and PETG prints so well without an enclosure and works well for most of my uses. The biggest issue I have with it is no adhesives stick to it. Creating a similar enclosure to yours is on my list of things to do. I want to try some nylon with carbon or glass fibers for added rigidity in the future.
Yep that smell stays isolated in another room. On the plus side though you can bond the stuff together just by melting down ABS scraps in acetone and use it like glue.

How do those HF totes compare to the Stanley ones? Are they dimensionally compatible? I have a bunch of the Stanley 25 ones but they're pretty expensive.

Just discovering your channel. Been printing ABS since 2015 heavily. I actually use some part cooling in certain situations. I think drafts are mostly irrelevant. It's ambient temperature that counts. Around 35C you can print pretty well. I'm running printers without active heating and getting around 50c. I hear 70c is ideal but that requires active heating. I've only run enclosed printers.
Yeah, my printer runs pretty consistently around 50c in that enclosure. I will usually turn the be on and let it stabilize a bit prior to starting the print. thanks for stopping by!
Curious, how is your Hitachi table saw holding up? Have you had any issues with the soft start yet? I had to replace the module on mine last summer.
It’s been great but to be honest it doesn’t get a lot of use. I don’t have room for it in my main shop area so I end up making do with a jigsaw a lot of times unless it is a project that warrants getting it out of the shed. Thanks for the heads up though. Now I won’t be too surprised if it happens. Where did you get the module form?
Would you be able to create the 3D models for the (yellow)plastic underside of the handle, and the plastic latches for the harbor freight boxes? That was they can be printed in whatever color one might desire?
I'll give it a try, I'm not sure if the latches would be strong enough but its worth a try.

Hi, nice video, 😊 and sorry for bothering you but you khow where can I find the 3d model of the small compartment of the stanley 1-92-749, comes with 3 different sizes but I want to change all for the small and I could find the 3d model you have any idea ?
Oh, I'm sorry. I have no idea. I haven't examined that case in particular. I Imagine it wouldn't be to hard to design them. Have you looked on thingiverse?
Neat! How long does it take to print a full box' worth full of regular bins though? I imagine it must take quite a while with the Ender 3?
On the Ender3, the smallest bin takes about an hour and a half, the medium size (twice the size of the small) takes 2 1/2 hrs. They took me quite a while to print because I was doing individual colors- so I had to be around for the color changes when a print finished. But, if you gang them up and print multiples (which I started doing with the green ones) you can set it up and walk away. Probably would take 2 days to completely fill the case.
Im a newbie, wife got me an Ender 3 Max Neo, I feel like printing these boxes take forever. What can I do to get faster results?
With something like these boxes that have very low detail, the easiest way to speed up the process is to get a bigger nozzle. if you can lay down plastic thicker and faster, you can take tons of time off the printing process. They will also be stronger. If you switch to a .8mm nozzle, and re-slice, you could conceivably cut your time in half- (assuming the heater block can keep up with the higher flow) Since you mention being a newbie, I will give you a warning, you do have to be careful switching out nozzles. They can get galled in their threads after they've been heat cycled so be sure to read up on that and the required slicer changes. You're also working in the area of the thermal couple which can be a bit fragile. Wouldn't want you to damage the printer in the process.
That Ender3 is on sale for $189. Do you think that’s a good deal. Or should I consider the next level. Since it’s on sale. I’d like to build these and other things that have a good printing “resolution” quality.
I have had no complaints with my Ender3's. It is a great entry to 3D printing. Not overly expensive and gives you the chance to see if you even enjoy the hobby. And the Ender3 can always be upgraded with aftermarket parts if you want to change some aspect of it.
I don't have a 3-d printer but I could really use some of those custom bins. Any chance you would sell some?
It is possible there is a library near you that will print 3d models for you, only charging you for the cost of filament. If you only need one or two things this could be an easy and cheap route if the service is available in your area. Alternatively, there are countless storage bin schematics on thingiverse. You can download the STL file and send it to someone who will print it for you (for a fee, of course). This would be more expenseive than a library, as the people who do this are doing it for profit, but it is certainly an option if you really want a specific item printed!
How many storage containers worth of bins can you make with a 1kg spool of filament? I bet a lot of us could justify the cost of the printer just to make parts bins, if the consumables cost is reasonable.
You could probably get about 24 of the large size bins (the largest of the original 3 sizes provided by harbor freight with the case) Depending on how much you are paying for filament that seems like it would be about 75-80 cents a box- which would be more expensive than just buying the cases themselves at $6 on sale- But the benefit of being able to print the custom sizes and personalize the case to exactly what you want to store is the selling point for me.

I recently saw another recycle bottle vid wherein the maker cut a bottle into filament and spliced it into his feed to make multi-color 3d recycle prints using the bottle as filament.
Invariably these are on another continent where the resin mix is unfamiliar in their available trash.
So, has anyone been able to cut plastic trash into usable filament in the US market? My optimal desire is to use water bottles in some form.
I’ve seen what you are taking about but I have no information about it personally. It seems like slitting it into consistent width material would be the biggest battle. Otherwise it would probably print similar to PETG

Well its kind of a long story. The music used in that video was originally free to use. Then the creator of that music got a manager and they retroactively claimed all the rights to content containing the music. At that time, I set the video to private until I could deal with it. I didn't realize at the time, but setting it to private turns off comments and deletes all the original comments. I decided rather than fighting the creator it would just be easier to mute the music. The video was also the very first video I ever made and I decided that it could be improved quite a bit. So, I recreated the video cutting out a bunch of slow boring parts and re-released it here: ua-cam.com/video/LCf14SY3_aw/v-deo.html I really don’t even want people watching the original so there is no reason for comments. The description directs viewers to watch the new version but I want to preserve the history of the channel so I leave it up.

I totally understand not wanting to delete anything, I might have missed the description. Re-watching all the Harbor Freight bin videos to stay motivated as I'm undergoing a massive garage re-organization. I'm watching everyone's "hardware store" sorta-sortimo videos so make sure I don't forget a category. Mine's primarily automotive & household, but with a growing collection of electronics and security bits. Definitely going to be printing a ton of the small HF bins for the thinner medium organizer, but inspired by the longer ones you've detailed in the videos. I'm waiting on my delivery of IKEA's TROFAST shelf frames. I'll be using those as the cabinets I'm putting my boxes onto underneath my workbenches. Already wiped out a couple of the local VA Harbor Freights in preparation. Cheers!
Good effort but way too much work to get to the solution
I get what you are saying, but for me that effort is the part that I enjoy. Once it is finished, it is just another fixture in my workshop- a tool to do more work. Figuring it out and creating it is the part that interests me.
