I just installed a second 5 kW diesel heater in my house so I can heat the livingroom (and a bit of the bedroom). This time, I bought one with Bluetooth which is pretty convenient.
Glad to see the Diesel Heater videos pop up again!!

I've got a 2kw £50 amazon Chinese diesel heater, it's in a converted 7.5t horse lorry, all the rear is now living area and it's good enough.
I run it on maximum until the whole area feels like Barbados, then I let it do a full cool down sequence, then turn it off on the isolator and goto bed.
I'm toastie warm until I wake up.
My horse lorry is insulated with only 25mm foil lined boards (roof, floor & walls) and I have also cut out some squares out of that same insulation board with some black fabric over them to go inside the windows. When I sleep I like it to be dark.
I was looking into getting a wood burner but my 2kw diesel heater is more than enough for me.
Only rule I have is "don't leave it running when I'm asleep or not there"
2kw diesel heater takes about 45 mins to take the full 27 foot long by 8 ft wide by 8ft high space to go from 8'c to 27'c.
I did make some modifications, 1. I changed the rubbish green fuel hose to an upgraded one.
    2. I bought an upgraded fuel pump.

The heat output of the 2kw, 5kw or 8kw heaters are a exagerated by the sellers. A typical 5kw unit only generates a maximum of 3.8kw under tests, a 2kw generates around 1.8 kW. Only one seller offers a 'super' 8kw which has a slightly enlarger burn chamber, but is identical in size to a 5kw. Most of the 8kw sold are actually 5kw.
There is a size difference that easily identifies a true 2kw. The diameter of a 5kw output vent is 7.5 cm, body length 38 cm, width 13.5 cm, compared to a 2kw, vent diameter 6cm, body length 32.5cm, width 11cm.
Having used both a 2kw and a 5 kw in a 6m panel van conversion, the higher output 5kw has proved a more ideal heater.
Amazon currently have a true 2kw maxpeedingrods heater in stock at £180

I bought a 2kw Webasto ST2000 Airtop back in about 2017. A great unit which cost £600 for the kit and there were no Chinese heaters around then. I used it in a standard height Trafic for around 5 years and removed it when the van was scrapped. I still have it in a case, ready for future use and it was a real life saver in winter, especially at night.
The only issue I ever had was the amount of power they take during start up and shut down, always draining the battery too much. Admittedly I only had the standard dial type control and I don't know if a digital controller would have made a difference but anyway, great if you have a hook-up but problematic off grid.
In my experience a 2kw should be more than adequate for any van and actually I really wish they would make a 1kw.

Different strokes - some feel the cold more than others, also the weather outside will make a difference, but you gets what you are going to be comfortable with, and what's suitable for where you are going, e.g. Greenland ‼️
    😆😆
Lots of campers have made comments about the heaters being too warm, and what people do not appreciate is that a van is NOT a room in a house. Houses have ceilings which are about 10 feet high, sometimes more, and the room size, even for a bathroom, is usually bigger than your van floor footprint, so it's going to heat up very quickly 😮 Hope you get it delivered soon and fitted pronto ♨️

We have a 2.2kw Eberspacher diesel heater in our VW T5 it’s more than enough we run it in the evening on about 21-22*c and it runs constantly at that albeit on a low speed at night we turn it down to 16*c and it cuts in and out as required, we’ve slept out in all weathers all year round and not been cold since we had it fitted. I’m with you thinking 2kw will suffice. 👍🏻🇬🇧

I prefer my propane heater to me. That propane needs is the best. All you gotta do is to use propane with diesel heater. You gotta use 2 forms of power at the same time. Your battery and then diesel. That's more power. You need to use if you don't use diesel heater propane. Heater just won formal power. That's it.

@Dirt-Diggler Actually, you can be right, but in this thing is you have to have your windows cracked? I have my fan top open when I'm on my Utah. So I get no conversation. Or. Mold type, I think if you're weak. Vehicles lock closed up. You'll I agree with you. You'll sweat when you keep doing those cracked. You have no crack. I mean, you have no sweat in the windows cause I've used them propane heater for years in my Van for the 5 years. I've lived in my vampire time. I've been doing it for 5. Feel's no problem whatsoever, but you know, it's therondo reovan, looks like it has no windows so yet, so in your case, you have a fan on top, so you can crack the fan. What I had that those Japanese old Chinese heaters are good too I will agree with you. It is a dry heater definitely.

i and i have also probably got the wrong one for my 30 foot boat but the chinese heater ratings are all wrong perhaps the 2kw is around 2 kw there are a few videos on you tube about the 5 and 8kw ones where people actualy do the maths given that for a given volume of diesel there is x amount of energy in it its about how much it uses in an hour and then doing the maths of how much fuel used in that hour so they also discovered there is no 5kw or 8kw heaters as they are both the same the only difference is the 5kw has a different motherboard to control the frequency of the pump so the5 has a lower minimum frequency hz and a lower max hz the one officialy called 8kw frequency in hz lowest is a little higher and its max hz a little higher too controled by the motherboard so the 8 feels hotter than the 5 but the heaters in the 5 and 8 are exactly the same burner so about the videos where some bright spark runs the test and does the maths with a given amount of diesel and a factor of time concluded proved it actualy that the chinese 5kw heater is about 3.5kw and the 8kw due to pumping in more fuel anyway is a little bit more but less than 4kw and the chinese heater specs on the websites they looked at how the chinese specified the output so for the 5 it says 5000 calories i think and the 8 is 8000calories but its nonsense as there is no time factor as you need to know how many calories in an hour so the ratings are just nonsense and they are also copies of the higher end heaters as like webasto and the two heater are 2kw or 3.5kw so thats also what the chinese ones are

There`s a simple way to calculate the true output of the any diesel heater...
1 Litre of diesel will yield 10KW per hour (or 1 KW for 10 hours)
Look for the delivery rate of the pump included. (Usually expressed as (X)cc or (X)ml per stroke) This will give you the true range of heat output derived from the frequency set on the controller. (EG, a pump with a rating of 0.3ml/cc per stroke, operating at one stroke per second (set on the controller) will deliver 1.080KW/H)
Nothing else matters. The size of the unit makes no difference.
If the pump delvers 1 litre of Diesel in an hour. It is a 10KW Heater. You can extrapolate from there.
    Hope that helps...

Just put it on the lower setting when not too cold and ramp it up in deep winter freezes. alwys use the fuel pump setting for maximum control rather than the thermostat settings ( temp controls ) as this give you total control of how fast the blower will go and what temps the van gets too.

It depends on how big the fuel pump is. 18ml. 22ml. or 28ml. 2kw. 5kw. or 8kw. If you put a 18ml pump into a 5kw - its like having a 2kw. its that simple. i have a 5kw with a 28ml pump, perfect on a cold winter day, night. 18ml will save you ££££ I know because I have had a diesel heater for 4 years with no problems.

      @symonsmith3497
Not really that simple, using a 28ml pump on a small body heater will run it very rich and you get sorting, running an 18ml pump on a large body heater it will run super lean and hot and you get ashing issues and posable control board warping and then there's the different control boards with various programming, there is indeed some overlap but there are 2 main body sizes and 4 or 5 pump sizes and AFAIK 4 different control board programs, I service boat diesel heaters and tend to avoid cheap Chinese ones if i can as its a bit of a minefield, mostly you get lucky and they just copied a webasto or eber but sometimes they try and get clever and totally feck up the specs.
If you want a deeper dive into diesel heaters, I suggest giving David McLucky, John Mack, lowerd expectations, or DIY helper a look on YT. 👍

There’s eberspacher, autoterm, webasto and dometic off the top of my head.

      Doesn’t work like that.
Larger heaters will be running too low and they soot up.
Ideally you need them flat out to keep them clean. That’s why 2kw are ideal.
You can have them ticking over for a while when up to temp, but ideally you wanna be using them flat out most of the time. Especially before shutting them down
