It’s not necessarily what he said but how he said it. Clearly, Mitchell felt as though he was being blamed for the poor recruitment and sales context of the summer window, that’s why he spoke out as he did. However, he lacked tact and diplomacy and, in trying to protect himself, threw others under the bus - you don’t do that as the newbie through the door whether you come with a great reputation or not.

The pre match conference is ridiculous as hardly any of the questions were about the Wolves game. Certain journalists were trying to get Eddie to say something that would cause trouble within the club, luckily Eddie dodged it. It wasn't Jordan, but it was 3 others who finished the conference. Hope they are not trying to cause the problem so they can write about it.

Totally agree with your take on Mitchell's statement Liam, we should be looking further afield to avoid the England tax. Don't think Mitchell was criticising previous signings.

everything Mitchell said seemed to make sense, no drama as far as I'm concerned but the media are making a big deal out of everything trying to get a story. 'Nickson isn't happy with powers but is willing to stay' - that's a non story, deal with it mate, you're head scout and you had a few extra powers cos we've been with our a D of F, if he's willing to stay then it means nowt, crack on. I think Mitchell needs to take responsibility to a degree for the window but it's over now, lets move on.

@@dddgtsd from what I understand clubs spend 12 months preparing for a summer transfer window- it's crazy to expect Mitchell to work magic when he joined mid-july and we had just avoided a PSR disaster.

You need to understand there are 3 workflows here.
    1) get the first 11 up to speed so it can make more money from TV games and finishing position in the league. That creates the fastest revenue
    2) Build a youth squad that can filter into the main squad, and bolster the revenue generation and the playing squad.
    3) get the players in the youth squad into good loans where they are actually being used.
Comparing us to Liverpool is not helpful. We have the infrastructure right now of Brentford but we aren’t near London.
We have ambitions of top 4 but we are still fur coat and no knickers and that’s going to take the 1st 3 years of PSR purchases to get point 1 solved out of our books.
Then good scouting. Mitchell is right we need to improve, but so does everyone every year. This is poor leadership on his front, he carries the can whether he likes it or not he needs to show leadership and strategy. The. He needs to creat plans and workflows to deliver this. He then needs to carry everyone along with that. So far he’s just bitched on

yup, the finishing 4th thing as amazing as it was, has giving people such false expectations - we have a poor standard academy, a thin squad, and low revenue - such a long journey these days to get to the level of the top teams. Not being a downer just like you aren't, but some fans just need to chill and enjoy the fact we have a competent manager and owners who at least WANT to spend and grow

    • @kristianheadland8184
      @kristianheadland8184 7 днів тому

@@dddgtsd that’s exactly it, our best saleable youth products of the last 3 years are Bobby Clark who we got £1mil for and ask for 0 on the sell on, Anderson and Minteh. Miley is great but injured so even if we wanted to sell him we couldn’t. The other brothers are just coming through.
You can’t sell what people don’t want.
Context keeps being removed and the job is to ensure that context is still relevant until it’s not. That’s going to be 4 or 5 years post takeover thanks to PSR as that’s just time. Time is needed to remove the spending of staying up. Then building the squad.

@@dddgtsd I agree. Mitchell was being disingenuous when he compared us to Liverpool. Like the other top clubs, they have been investing in their squad strategically for years. For 15 years we had no strategic plan and were only interested in PL survival for the media money and free advertising. They have £30, 40, 50 million players who they have replaced with better ones. We don’t.

  • @TheJDUBMedia
    @TheJDUBMedia 7 днів тому +1

When you look at the facts we need a different recruitment strategy. Every team around us is unearthing overseas talent, like we used to, at a fraction of the cost and selling for big profit- we spent 70m on two young players he hardly used.
We did what we had to do and made some great signings too.
But how come we only got 25m for ASM? Minteh is the only bit of good selling we've done. Forrest got a great deal for Chris Wood and Anderson - we've been chumps selling.
There are problems and Howe is as much to blame as Mitchell for the communication and red flags.
Howe hardly gave Mitchell a warm welcome.
My bigger concern are the performances and I can't help but think the summer has disengaged Gordon and Eddie has his eyes on England.

Love the show lads but disagree with the transfer policy chat as too many contradictions. Our main issue is other clubs are selling young potential because their academies have had good investment over the years and ours has produced Anderson / Longstaff and Miley of any kind of quality. Who else we going to sign? You can’t complain about spending big on superstars (Tonali / Guehi) but then also complain we’re buying young and not ready. Our transfer business strike rate has been unbelievable so far. Mitchell has a big rep and promise but until he has results at Newcastle no one cares what he thinks of the past deals that actually got us in a cup final and the champions league!

I did feel Mitchell blamed Eddie yet he was dealing with it yet I’m told it was our Chairman who pulled out of the deal.
I’m sorry Eddie has my full support as Martin O’Neil said on talksport Eddie should have final say on players he coaches them and he should not have to be told how to coach them .
Also I thought in his contract it said he had final say so he should have been consulted.
Eddie is right should be a Collaboration between Mitchell and Eddie is it wrong Eddie has more than enough credit in the bank seems he has been disrespected from the top I find that shocking.

We've had a really positive start to the season taking 7 points from a possible 9 with some huge yet winnable games right around the corner yet the focus is on rehashing the past! The summer window has gone, nobody can do anything about it now so we should be looking forward. Eddie came across quite jovial in his presser actually despite some journos stirring the pot using language like 'Civil War'...The season has just started, we've made a really good start but that kid of language spreads negativity throughout the club. Let's just see how Eddie and Mitchell work together because they've just begun their partnership which I'm sure has had some teething problems to begin with like in many clubs I imagine, but I got a strong sense from Eddie that he really just wants to talk about the upcoming football now which is the right thing to do. I'm trying to get up for the Wolves game in two days time but everywhere you look its all 'Howe & Mitchell' this 'Howe & Mitchell' that and I'm bloody sick of it....lets focus on the football FFS!

this is the only time that I fear for the project the future of the club and eddie howe being at newcastle in the short and long term as i truly believe there are big problems between eddie and paul and Eddie's press conference basically papers over the cracks if amanda and merhdad was still at the club I'd be more comfortable and I truly believe come January eddie will either be England's next manager or at another premierleague club either by getting sacked not for results but the relationship with paul or physically walking away

Sick of talking about it yet using it in the title to get more clicks - which is all the other media outlets are doing too. I get it, you're a relatively small page with actual good content and you're just playing the game.
This whole power struggle thing bores me to death tbh, people digging out Howe in the summer over transfers now everyone has turned on Mitchell. Who knows what goes on but if the owners were really willing to just splash daft cash we would have had players brought in, at the end of the day PSR is an issue, Howe has high standards for character in his signings (surely a good thing) and Mitchell joined pretty late in the summer and had to restart all the work Ashworth did. It's clear there'd be teething issues so as fans I think we should just relax and put it behind us.
I think the mainstream media want Howe to go cos theres no real stories elsewhere and they'll push for him to get the England job. I don't think he's even that interested in it though.

Howe is being a bit touchy, Mitchell maybe didn’t phrase his comments perfectly but the criticism of the previous business is evidently true on the basis of the PSR situation on June 30th. That obviously wasn’t Howe’s ‘fault’ but needs to be better going forward. To improve the side without stretching into points deduction territory we need to buy a significant proportion of players from outside the Prem and move players on in the 28-30 age range whilst they still have value. Howe needs to grasp that the era of the do everything manager is over.

Paul Mitchell done his interview which some state that he was candid but I think he could and should have kept things back and you lads said you would keep things back but then you had Craig Hope definitely not doing that which has stirred the pot.
Did Mitchell do this to stamp his authority? Looks that way, but was it really necessary? Not sure?
Then we had the speculation by stating we didn't have a process, which isn't necessarily true with our previous signings that have been canny belter.
Why we pursued Guehi after Crystal Palace went public to probably start a bidding war and Parrish was extracting the urine and trying to pull wor pants doon because he kept putting up the price because they didn't need to sell really.
Eddie stated he was more hands off and Mitchell wasn't in long, but who's job is it to negotiate?
Does Mitchell want to sign players without Eddie getting the final say?
It's all question marks, and is it reet Darren Eales doesn't say nowt aboot this?
Let's see how it gans and if they get on alreet Eddie can dee his job with the team and Paul hopefully proves his worth?
