I have a 70D. I just got this lens today. Tried it out and it takes very clear pictures. Really fast focus and build quality is good. This guy has no idea what he's talking about, saying not to buy it. Got it for 300 and a Canon USA warranty.
just done a couples photoshoot at a professional studio with my girlfriend..i was suprised when i saw this was the lens they used.all i can say is when u put it on a 7d and do studio shots it works great and has made me wonder why i got a 50mm and 85mm prime when a pro studio was using this lens+ all images were shot between 22-31mm which again contridicts all info on how to take female portraits.
I understand the how UV filters will case some extra glare sometimes. However, even without the UV filter vignetting is still noticeable and the video was shot without the UV filter. It could not have affected anything else too much.
Oops sorry, i kind of forgot to mention the aperture once haha. its 4-5.6 as you already know. I'l check out the sigma 17-50 2.8, canon 17-40 f4, or the canon 24-105 f4 (we have a review of this). Keep in mind they will more money that this one.
No I have not. However, it was like that since I bought it new. I would just leave it alone, at least its functional. We use an Audio Technica ATR288w.
For these videos, I just adjust levels and occasionally add a denoiser effect within Premiere. Which CS6 package are you considering? I've tried both Premiere CS6 and Final Cut X and I definitely prefer Premiere. -Aaron
As I said in the video, this is not a worthy upgrade from you kit lens. I'm not sure how much you were looking to spend, but on the cheaper side of things I would look at the sigma 17-70mm. I know its a 3rd party lens, but its pretty good. (better than this)
Sorry we don't have an 18-55 to review. If we find one sometime we can review it. I just didn't think anyone would want to see a review on the lens that usually comes with the camera.
in the video at the end, i know i was pointing at the sun because i had to for that shot, but even when i was pointing down you still saw it. I understand the UV filter makes it worse, but not by much and this lens is known for its bad flaring, it was not only my observation -alex
I have two of these lenses. They are not L lenses but well made with very good results. Neither of mine creak, they do not rattle and they focus quietly and accurately. Pretty bombproof and miles better than the original kit lense. Perhaps you shouldnt treat it like a bull in a porcelain factory. Dont bang it and squeeze the mouldings till they squeak. The switches are exactly the same as most other canon lenses.perhaps your mum ought to take it off you less you break it and replace it with something more appropriate such as an old kodak instamatic 50 until your old enough for an eos.
I would eventually like to get a Canon 7D and I was wondering what lens I should get with it. Should I get a 17-85mm or stick with the 18-135? Ive seen your videos on these but what would you recommend?
we're not trying to copy digitalrev or copy his personality. Look at the way they present their videos. We are not trying to be so much entertaining but informative. We aren't trying hard and we're just being ourselves. No way would I be able to pretend to be someone else it would be really bad and really obvious. Maybe you just see similarities because our videos dont suck and we use garage band music just like the rest of youtube.
Hi i have a Canon 70d wich ive been using with a 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 kit lens, for a few days i`ve bought with an ocasion price the 17-85mm 4.5-5.6, i would love to know from you if this lens is a good upgrade for my kit lens? Thanks
Yes it is a very worthy upgrade fro the 18-55mm kit lens. This lens was designed to directly replace the 18-55mm. I don't know what this guy is talking about, he must have gotten a bad copy of the lens.
Don't forget to take a look at Adobe Creative Cloud. It gives you access to the Master Collection, all future upgrades, 20GB of online storage, hosted websites, and more, and with your discout, it would only cost $30 a month. It's what I use right now. -Aaron
To be honest here, i chose the intro music before I watched digitalrev. Even so, only their very old intro used the same garageband music. Again many other people on youtube use garageband music. Plus, if you listen to most of their newer videos they use better royalty free music anyways. We can only afford garageband. But like I really don't know what to say because we never try to copy digitalrev except when we say we are. Like the one part in this video. Maybe Kai and I are just similar
Yes a rotating polarising filter will stop the flare or even an Umbrella. He should use this lens on a NEWER camera body too. Using my T2i I can ONLY get 1 type of in-camera correction for this lens 1. . Peripheral Illumination But using my T6S (760D), I can get 3 types of in-camera corrections for this lens namely:- 1. Peripheral Illumination 2. Chromatic Aberation 3. Distortion So the lens is EXCELLENT with My T6S but not as good on my T2i.
would the lens be worth $50? That's how much I paid for one used on Amazon. It hasn't arrived yet so I'm just trying to get some info so I know what to expect.
This lens normally sells used for 150-200 dollars. Cheaper I've found cheaper (around 70 dollars) on evilBay. But those had damaged glass. How good is yours?
If you've ever seen any of my vlogs you would see I am who I am and not like Kai. I mean unless of course you think I'm putting on an act in my vlogs too.
This had to be my least favorite lens from canon. I had to repair it twice and now its aperture is stuck. Lol luckily, I upgraded to a Tamron 24-70 VC 2.8 But all in all the 17-85 was a great "walkaround" lens.
Isn't it ironic how the intro song and is exactly the same, the BGM is exactly the same, the humor is uncannily similar? also it does look obvious that you are trying to copy digitalrev (IMO) and I never said you guys sucked :]
I don't think you should copy DigitalRev, if you want to be noticed be original. Copying DigitalRev on every aspect - even trying to copy Kai's personality is just too try-hard :/
Wow this is bad. Not original at all. The same with the rest of your videos. Be creative, dont be a follower man, create your own. Cheers for the effort.

I bought it used and also on my 70D and I love it, for video and vacation

Honest and great review! We need more content like this. Keep it up bro 🔥
This lens is not discontinued. It is still listed on Canons website and you can find them everywhere new for around $460-500.
I find this lens very versatile for close up stuff and I use a 70-300 for the long distance bird flying stuff.
I understand the how UV filters will case some extra glare sometimes. However, even without the UV filter vignetting is still noticeable and the video was shot without the UV filter. It could not have affected anything else too much.
Wow he is very good.what lens did you use to record the video?does it has IS?
What's the music @ 1:44. Please reply or pm me.

All of our music is included in the Apple's iLife software suite.
The Canon EF 24-105 f4L. You can check out our review on our channel.
The lens provided beautiful images. Thanks for the video
Is your photo quality and sharpness better with the 18-55mm kit lens? Is that the STM version?
No I have not. However, it was like that since I bought it new. I would just leave it alone, at least its functional. We use an Audio Technica ATR288w.
I'm pretty sure they still make it because I brought one new a few months ago

I know this is kind of stupid and i have 4 lenses, but just to understand can you do a review of the 18-55mm kit lens?

I noticed you have a hoya uv filter on it, i noticed wheneve i use uv filters i get lens flare. Just saying either way very professional review!

Oh yes! Head and shoulders above the 18-55!
Nice vid but cold you please give me details of where I could buy your mic from? Thanks.
What kind of lapel microphone do you use? (Or recommend)
Compared a alot of lenses $500 is cheap, but I know you can find them a lot cheaper. Mine was $200 used while in great condition.

Awesome video. Where do you get the music from?
Thank you for the review. Was very informative and has helped me decide what lens I should invest.

The lens flare effect is now popular for 2019
You should start using in the filters that lens is awesome I used it in short films and it looks legit
Yes a rotating polarising filter will stop the flare or even an Umbrella.
He should use this lens on a NEWER camera body too.
Using my T2i I can ONLY get 1 type of in-camera correction for this lens
1. . Peripheral Illumination
But using my T6S (760D), I can get 3 types of in-camera corrections for this lens namely:-

So the lens is EXCELLENT with My T6S but not as good on my T2i.
for what a uv filter?
what lens do you shoot the video with?
can you do a review on the 17-40mm
stop using UV filters when reviewing lenses
...psst... a lot of the issues you had with this lens, is from your uv filter...
Thanks. Please go to our facebook page. We have a store there where you can purchase everything at the best prices from Amazon.
would the lens be worth $50? That's how much I paid for one used on Amazon. It hasn't arrived yet so I'm just trying to get some info so I know what to expect.

can you give review tamron 18-270 PZD?
17-85 its a wide len right
24-105 f4L and yes it has IS, and yes he is pretty good haha
thank you
thanks, but we don't use one. It's just Aaron holding the camera
It might not be worth it if you only work with video, but if you're like me and you work across many types of media, it's definitely worth it. -Aaron
I was going to buy but after this I can save a few extra bucks and get a used 24-105
LOL at the minivan part
He has a T2i not a full frame camera. no wonder
Bigboy Slim it's an efs lens it won't work on the full frame
The build quality may be cheap.. but this is not a CHEAP (meaning it is expensive) lens.
If you've ever seen any of my vlogs you would see I am who I am and not like Kai. I mean unless of course you think I'm putting on an act in my vlogs too.
is KAI your relative?
This had to be my least favorite lens from canon. I had to repair it twice and now its aperture is stuck. Lol luckily, I upgraded to a Tamron 24-70 VC 2.8 But all in all the 17-85 was a great "walkaround" lens.
useful
All you need is a Canon 5D MkII Strap and a Nikon, then you'll be on your way to DRTV ;P
So what happened to this dude and the channel??
Alex i'm from Brazil, please CC !! Thank's :)
Isn't it ironic how the intro song and is exactly the same, the BGM is exactly the same, the humor is uncannily similar? also it does look obvious that you are trying to copy digitalrev (IMO) and I never said you guys sucked :]
Idk. Informative enough though. Thanks
I don't think you should copy DigitalRev, if you want to be noticed be original. Copying DigitalRev on every aspect - even trying to copy Kai's personality is just too try-hard :/
The Kit lens does NOT do better.
Soooo...a fake Digital Rev review?
its video not videoooooow, but good video tho.
Don't be a douche your entire life.
