Chelsea, thanks so much for introducing us into the world of freeze dryers! We had such a great time making food and getting to know you guys more. Come back soon!
So cool. I was wondering if you guys knew each other. I know BC is big and beautiful. Love your province. But we stick to the prairie. Greetings from Southern Manitoba. Follow both of your channels for years now.❤
I would LOVE a breakdown of what freeze dryers truly cost to operate, if you get the time. Another UA-cam homesteader in the US says hers costs about $200/week to run it, which I find prohibitive, obviously.
Laura, from Garden Answer on UA-cam, has some videos about spider mite issues in her garden. She got predatory bugs from a company called Koppert to spread in her garden to get rid of them.
We get spider mites in our greenhouse with the dryness, mist the plants as soon as you see them, they hate moisture. They are like little blood suckers, mist mist mist. They hate water. Also we grow sacrificial eggplants, everything loves them and leaves other things alone. Glad to see Rose, been loving their channel for quite a while and just found your channel, an old favourite and a new favourite 😊
I would so LOVE to see that wonderful wood stove in use - they touched on it once before (Rose baked a pie), but an in-depth video devoted to cooking/baking tips with wood would be incredible! Thank you for this video!
Such a great video. I watch you regularly, however didn’t know about gridlessness. I watched another of theirs and subscribed. I’m 75 so the lifestyle is a dream, but we can all dream… right? Have a blessed day from Missouri USA.
Awesome seeing you guys together!!! I have watched you for years and have also loved following Rose and her family adventures. While we aren't "homesteaders", since retiring, everything I have learned about growing, freezing and canning has come from watching and learning from you, Chelsea. Thank you for making things "simple" and achievable!!
We just bought a camper and went to the Smokey Mountains for a few days! Fun! Just trying how to figure out camping around gardening, seed planting, lol.
Its so cool seeing 2 channels that ive enjoyed so much working together! The freeze dryer is really cool and all the stuff ive seen you use it for makes me think I may just get one!
Like you, I have also been watching the Gridlessness channel for years. Without question Jeff, Rose, and their five daughters, Sarah, Abigail, Julia, Christina, and Keziah, are all remarkable human beings. The good example that they set for their subscriber base is truly second to none. I can honestly say that Gridlessness has been my all-time favorite social media channel from the day I discovered them. In fact, I enjoy their video's so much that I'll go ahead and re-watch their content from time to time. Because even the second or third time around a Gridlessness video will always put me in a good mood. Therefore, in my opinion, Gridlessness is the best off-grid, do it yourself, hunting, fishing, gardening, animal husbandry, cooking, while having a blast doing it, channels that the world wide web has to offer. I pray that this sustainable lifestyle becomes the rule and not the exception for everyone. Take care. sincerely, Dean O. :-I
Thank you for taking us on the tour. Peaceful is the correct word to use 😊 Building as you go is a great idea to see what your needing & where first. Your home is beautiful & ❤❤❤ the root cellar ‼️ Such a joy when like minded friends can come together. 💖👵🏻❣️
I loved this video ❤. More like this with other families would be awesome. I have been following you for years and love you all so many Now I’m binge watching all of there videos. Beautiful family I never new about
I think you'll absolutely love that Bluetti. We've had the same one for a good minute and it really has been a huge help for us, especially living in the southeast US. Hurricane Alley. Yay us.
Subscribed to Gridlessness! It makes me happy to see you have another couple that you can share knowledge with, and have fun together!! I'd name their woodstove "Mabel."❤
Hi Chelsea! I replied to the mite issue over on the other channel, but I went ahead and copied and pasted it here too. Hello! So sorry about your mites. They can be very destructive. I use to be a crop scout. Primarily peppermint. Mites were a huge deal in the fields as they could melt a field down before you know what happened. Here are a few tidbits about them. I hope this helps… Mites generally will start on the lower leaves and work their way up the plant. Once they get to that point you definitely have a problem. So make sure you’re keeping an eye on the bottom leaves. A “loop” is a must to see the mites before an infestation. Takes a little practice to learn how to use one. So what to do… You can spray with water and wash them off if you get them early. You definitely have to repeat daily. Predator mites are a good option if they start to get bad. But don’t wait. You can also use neem oil. Usually won’t kill the eggs. Eggs hatch every seven days so you’ll need to reapply for a while. Use your loop and keep an eye out throughout your greenhouse. They can migrate. Keeping on top of them is the key. Sure hope you can get a handle on them!! Just started watching you via “Little Mountain Ranch”. I’ve been watching them for quite some time. They are one of my favs. So fun that you did one together. Your root cellar is AMAZING!! As well as your home. Thank you! :)
💚 So very cool to meet your friends, Rose and Jeff, what a cool place they have, and that root cellar is AWE-mazing! Will head on over to their channel.💚
Lady beetles These tiny, oval, red and black insects are selective hunters that use visual and olfactory cues to find spider mites. Adult ladybugs can eat up to 100 spider mites per day.
agreed, but carefull ordering them online, there are some (i think chinese Ladybugs) that can be quite invasive and take over your area and can whipe out native ladybugs by just eating all their food.
To get rid of spider mites is tsp of dawn dish soap tblsp of Rose oil and one gal of water. Thoroughly spray plants and area down. Let dry and come back the the next day and spray again. you can continue if they have laid eggs, until all have been distroyed. Hope this helps.
I am so excited about your two channels coming together! What a great friendship to have, you all a good people 🎉 We have been following both of your channels for almost two years, can't wait to see what you all come up with next 💫 We are battling spider mites too in our indoor citrus. We are trying Diatomaceous, so far it's not working as well as I would like.
Spider mites thrive in dry conditions which I'm guessing the greenhouse stays very dry in the winter. So if your plant leaves are dry it's perfect conditions for them. You could try using a sprinkler inside the greenhouse during the growing season to wet the leaves. Then alternate between neem oil, pyrethrin based insecticide and canola oil insecticidal soap every three days. Also don't cann nectarines they are not good, I did it last year and they go mushy in the jar. Which looking back makes sense because nectarines have a mushy texture unlike peaches.
Her stove should be called. Delilah. Rose and Delilah. 😅that sounds like a new department store or perfume. Lol Thanks for having us, Rose. Love your place. ❤
It’s funny, even though I’m subscribed to both of your channels, I never imagined you would appear in one another’s videos. I’m excited to see where you go in your travel trailer. I highly recommend going to the Thunder Bay Ontario area. It is beautiful! My sister and I took a trip completely around Lake Superior this past summer, and we both fell in love with that area. It’s on the Trans-Canada Highway, so it’s an easy (but long, from BC!) drive. The views of Lake Superior are breathtaking! We camped at Trowbridge Falls Municipal Campground, just east of Thunder Bay, and it was very peaceful there. I hope to return to the area to do more exploring!
I like Rosie or Ruth Ann is what she should name her cook stove. When I saw it I honestly thought of the name Ruth Ann. They have such a beautiful home, root cellar, and garden space. I don’t watch their channel, but going to start watching them.
Hi just want to say I love your channel. Also tell your friend if the spidermites come back at first sign to release a ton of lady bugs in her greenhouse they will eat the mites. Have her check the back of her leaves on the regular they will show on the backs before elsewhere. Best of luck!
A little bit of trivia. Peaches and nectarines are basically the same fruit. The only difference is that nectarines do not have the gene that creates the fuzz.
To be honest Chelsea I like your root cellar better. It has old timey feeling being built all those years ago on the side of your mountain with your own trees for support! Nothing is new or shiny. It has a history. It gives me a hobbit feeling as well. That was one of the first things I loved about your homestead when I first watched your video many, many, many years ago. That and your beautiful friendly smiling face of course❣️
Living Traditions Homestead You Tube had a horrible infestation last year and they were able to finally eradicate the spider mites. If you look on their channel you will be able to find where they recorded it all. They are in south central US so very different from you all but I think the way they handled it would work where you are also. Good Luck as it must have been so disheartening. You left us hanging! I will go over to their channel and see the rest of the story. Thanks for sharing with us!
You can use plant extracts to rid plants from spider mites garlic extract, clove, mint and rosemary oils even cinnamon oil. Just like house plants if they have deficiency you can use herbs and spices to aid them.
Try getting sworskii mites from Koppert. They work blilliantly for spidermites. We get them in South Africa. Koppert is a Netherlands based company. I believe they are in the states too. Just not sure if they are available in Canada. Laura from Garden Answer (youtube channel) in the States used a company local to them if that might help you to get into contact with "more local" companies. The Koppert products are your best bet to get rid of them. They are expensive though. Hopefully this helps😅
How exciting that you may be doing some over landing, another great channel you may be interested is the EPIC family roadtrip there channel is amazing- they also reside in Canada and are currently driving west coast to east coast Canada. There main place is on an island
Laura at @garden answer has dealt with spider mites. She uses organic bonide treatments, and even predatory mites. You have to cycle through different products as they build up tolerance to each ones :(
A suggestion for Roses wood cook stove name- you're right that beautiful girl needs a name! Honoura ( pronounced Ha-nora). It literally means " woman of honor". I'll go to get channel and suggest as well. Many blessings to you as always🙌
Chelsea, thanks so much for introducing us into the world of freeze dryers! We had such a great time making food and getting to know you guys more. Come back soon!
Maybe name the stove, Clara since it’s a McClary. Just a thought.
So cool. I was wondering if you guys knew each other. I know BC is big and beautiful. Love your province. But we stick to the prairie. Greetings from Southern Manitoba. Follow both of your channels for years now.❤

Name your stove Betsey
Laura, from Garden Answer on UA-cam, has some videos about spider mite issues in her garden. She got predatory bugs from a company called Koppert to spread in her garden to get rid of them.
We have been living an amazing life off grid in our travel trailer with solar for the last three years and it is so wonderful!
Been watching Gridlessness for years. 7? 10?
Great fondness for Jeff but really lovely to see Rose by herself. 😊 Thank you for the insight.
I would so LOVE to see that wonderful wood stove in use - they touched on it once before (Rose baked a pie), but an in-depth video devoted to cooking/baking tips with wood would be incredible! Thank you for this video!
Ohhh, name that stove Pearl! She's a beautiful white one...love it. Excellent video. Excellent homestead. 😊 thanks for sharing.
Love that!
Pearls from the Sea and Roses from BC! Beauties, oh so lovely.
Such a great video. I watch you regularly, however didn’t know about gridlessness. I watched another of theirs and subscribed. I’m 75 so the lifestyle is a dream, but we can all dream… right? Have a blessed day from Missouri USA.
Bertha is a great name for her cook stove and loved her root cellar
Chelsea, your hair is so thick & beautiful! Your ponytail is as big as a 1/2 dollar! Can't wait for this video! Thanks for taking us along! ✝️😇📖✨️💓✨️💓
I was going to say that, but you beat me to it👍
Thank you so much!!
I've been watching gridlessness for a few years. Before I found your channel.
Chelsea, I just wanted you to know Dan did an amazing job at explaining the bluetti.
Two great hardworking ladies. Inspiring for sure.
Thank you for giving me another channel to watch.
Ohhh , Rose ! Betty , for Betty White she's the perfect color too .😊
I love it when my favorite UA-cam family's get together
You can buy bulk amounts of ladybugs who feast on spider mites. Or you can buy predatory mites for the specific pest you want to get rid of.
Ladybugs work great on mites .. we had some on our plants a few years ago and the ladybugs completely got rid of them
We just bought a camper and went to the Smokey Mountains for a few days! Fun! Just trying how to figure out camping around gardening, seed planting, lol.
We've been watching Gridlessness for years. Glad to see y'all together. This is so fun. Thanks.
My grandmother had that stove back in the late 40’s to early 50’s her name was Bessy , ( Elizabeth ) . So many lovely memories of visiting her ❤
Its so cool seeing 2 channels that ive enjoyed so much working together! The freeze dryer is really cool and all the stuff ive seen you use it for makes me think I may just get one!

Yes, 100% agree! I have had a great success with them in the past. We call them lady bugs here in Texas
Oh my goodness. Two of my favourite local youtube families together ! Can't wait to see the video. ❤
Name the stove Cookie 😊 She's a good little cooker.
To get rid of spider mites is tsp of dawn dish soap tblsp of Rose oil and one gal of water. Thoroughly spray plants and area down. Let dry and come back the the next day and spray again. you can continue if they have laid eggs, until all have been distroyed. Hope this helps.
“Aunt Millie” for the stove name… My aunt Millie raised on a farm baked bread, made scratch donuts, canned food, cooked big dinners. She was the best.
I am so excited about your two channels coming together! I am blown away how charming their property is! I subscribed to their channel and can’t wait to watch!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I cooked solely on a wood stove for years. It baked the best pies I ever made.

Agreed by this old Northern Ontario retired hardrock miner!
I watched that on Gridlessness, so happy to see your perspective
What a great root cellar & for the stove I was thinking Gertie.
I absolutely love their German Shepards!!! I need one!
I've been watching gridlessness for a long time they are great people as your family are also. ❤
Love this so much!💚💜
Great video. Love @gridlessness set up, especially that root cellar. You could call the stove Bianca.
That really is the coolest root cellar!!
White Cloud!!!
Her stove should be called. Delilah. Rose and Delilah. 😅that sounds like a new department store or perfume. Lol
Thanks for having us, Rose. Love your place. ❤
I love venison burgers. So good.

Bertha is the name of my grandma’s stove…
Loved seeing your friends farm ..
AWESOME!

Betsy for the stove
Love the collaboration with other UA-cam ers. Never heard of griddlness, but now interested. Thanks for sharing a different video.
Great video hope your trailer works for you. Great storage at Roses place
I sugest getting her in contact with Laura from Garden Answer. They deal with spidermits. I think Lauura can give you some good tips .
Yes, Bertha for the stove.

What beautiful land you all live on!
Use milk spray in the greenhouse for small bugs
That root cellar did not disappoint
How exciting that you may be doing some over landing, another great channel you may be interested is the EPIC family roadtrip there channel is amazing- they also reside in Canada and are currently driving west coast to east coast Canada. There main place is on an island
Good evening from the U.K.
I have watched them from the beginning,as I have watched you.
Mist the underside of leaves with water daily prevents spider mites.
Laura at @garden answer has dealt with spider mites. She uses organic bonide treatments, and even predatory mites. You have to cycle through different products as they build up tolerance to each ones :(
I can't believe that I am the first to comment!!! I am going to subscribe to your friend's channel as well.
Welcome! I hope you enjoy her channel too.
A suggestion for Roses wood cook stove name- you're right that beautiful girl needs a name!
Honoura ( pronounced Ha-nora). It literally means " woman of honor". I'll go to get channel and suggest as well.
Many blessings to you as always🙌
Dawn dish soap has worked for spider mites for me just mix with water and spray them down
So awesome!!❤❤🙏🙏xxoo
Holy smokes I have never caught your show quick. 7 secs after you posted. I look forward to your shows .
Her stove shall be named Clara….🤣. Great video Chelsea. We have a small Bluetti, and I love it. Anyways thanks for sharing, 🌷🇨🇦
I've been watching Gridlessness for 5 or 6 years. Jeff and Rose are so talented. I think Rose should name her stove Eleanor , Eleanor McClary.
I have the exact wood stove at my cabin , even the same year. I don’t know too many people that still use it on their home.
I love watching and today’s trip was very interesting. The cook stove should be called Mabel !!❤
