Best DIY Hammock Hang - No Trees Needed!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 чер 2014
- I needed a place to hang my hammock in my back yard but I didn't have the trees to hang it from. After searching UA-cam and Google, I couldn't find any ideas that I liked to hang my hammock without trees. I decided to head to Lowe's and walk around to see what I could find and this is what I came up with. Enjoy!

Finally someone with a great solution to treeless yards. Thanks!
Thanks for making this video (8 years ago haha), it's exactly what I need.
this is exactly what i was looking for. i have the same type of yard as you and i enjoy hanging in my hammock but when i searched online i couldn't find something that i liked. i also love that the poles are removable Great Idea. thanks for the step by step. :)
No more searching ... brilliant! I'm sooo happy to find you, exactly what I needed. Thanks a lot!!!
+amcuadra2 haha glad I could help
Nice and simple. The removable feature is the winner. I believe this will support a lot more weight than you suggest; good news for the 250-300 weight crowd. (Yes, there are a lot of us beefy hammock lovers out there :/ )
Thanks for the comment. I'm sure it could hold more weight but I didn't know for sure and didn't want to give any misinformation. I guess you could use bigger posts too.
I think your formula will work fine, save for mushy or boggy ground that might give way. But even then, it would probably be a slow sagging descent to the ground. :)
I could see that happening if the ground wasn't packed tight enough and you were in it long enough but so far I haven't had any issues. Probably would depend on your weight as well.
I keep a hennessey hung between 2 trees in my back yard, but when cool weather returns and the skeets retreat, I want to be able to lie and look at the stars on clear nights, and watch rain falling when it rains (clear tarp). So I will set my posts in a nice open space. It would be a gamble to place them in just the right spot, so I will use a portable stand until I do find the sweet spot. Otherwise, i could find myself digging too many holes (two is my limit, ha)
That's an awesome idea with the clear tarp I think I might try that.
Great idea, I was about to sink my wooden 4x4s, but now I'll use your idea. Thanks.
Brillliant! Best way to relax. You've inspired me to get out my hammock again after moving house - no suitable trees. Thank you!
+joy Uglow You're welcome enjoy it
I used this same idea last year to put up posts in my yard to hang patio lights! Works great, used PVC painted brown, and we pull them out to mow. Didn't think about doing it for our hammock! Off to Lowes...thanks!
Thanks for sharing this idea. It is a genius plan and being able to remove it to cut the grass or simply get it out of your way when not in use is perfect. Way to go and thanks for taking the time to share.
No problem thanks for watching
I think this is really cool!
Thanks for the idea can't wait to have this setup in my backyard!
Thank you and you will love it
Since the posts inside the pipes aren't permanently attached, you can make other pvc holes in your yard and move the hammock to different locations if you wish. I made 4 holes, two close to the house for shade and privacy and the other two near the pond to enjoy the sunset at night.
+amjr9999 That's pretty awesome I'm glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for the comment
Genious idea off to buy my supplies! Thank you so much!

Excellent idea mate! I will definitely be doing this project on my next day off. Thank you for the great tutorial!
+Jimmy Lucas Awesome glad you found it helpful and hope it works out for you.
Finally! I've been needing this for a while. We are always asking our mom to hang a hammock and she was like "we don't have trees for it" now she is doing it literally now!"

Great idea! I was about ready to sink a 4x4 but this is a much better idea- sturdier and removable. Brilliant!
Thanks
Brilliant and easy, the PVC sleeves are a great idea.. gonna do this in the summer!
Awesome I️ hope it works out for you
Genius! Exactly what I was looking for! And you can mow over it! I have one big tree so I'm going to put one post on each side and then I can hang two hammocks. Perfect solution, And Cheap!

This is very smart! Thanks for sharing! I was thinking about cementing a 4 x4 in the yard, but this idea is WAY better! The idea that you can take the poles out is great!
Thanks a lot I appreciate the comment. Good luck with the project.
Awsome idea I'll be doing this soon! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you and thanks for watching
Great idea, design, and video! I have one solid tree so I'll just need to install one post. Thanks a lot for sharing!
+Kevin Dumont No problem and enjoy the hang
We too got a hammock and was thinking about how we were going to hang it, Saw your video and now we know. Love the idea of being able to put the post away in the winter and you nailed it. Great and smart idea No ugly post sticking out of the ground all winter. Thanks!
I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching. Let me know how it works for you.
Ok Think up a few more cool things. We like EASY at our young old age! I know lots of cool ways of doing a few things after all these years but just not savvy enough to put them on UA-cam. Oh and your idea even my husband liked so thanks again.
jreppoh No problem enjoy.
Best idea I've found yet. Thanks!
+Billy Iron No problem hope it works out well for you
I did this years ago before I was into backpacking. Your idea is better thought out with the caps. Great job.
Thanks brother appreciate the comment.
I want to thank you again for the idea. I built and it works great!! Perfect for my yard because when I'm done and its put away there is no signs of it. Love it!
That's awesome I'm glad it helped and enjoy the hammock.
Used your plan due to having only one tree in my yard. It works perfect. Thanks!
+Lewis Forney No problem glad it worked for you
Well thought out way to hang a hammock! We have no trees in our small backyard but this would work great. Thanks for sharing!

Great solution, most discrete one yet, thanks!
+knallfunk Thanks for watching
Awesome idea! My husband and I can't wait to dig our rope hammock out of the garage and get it set up! Love the removable posts idea, much safer for our kids when they're playing in the yard when the hammock is not in use. It will also save me the trouble of extra weed eating, lol. I also watched your video on your homemade pool filter, you're like the McGuyver of home solutions lol. Your ideas and videos are awesome and very helpful! I also like that they're money saving fixes. Thanks again from Cincinnati!:)
Lol thanks for the comment I'm glad the video was helpful.
Great idea brother. I was just digging a hole and was going to set the post in concrete. I was like, there has to be a better way. Found your vid and plan on getting the pvc. Thanks for the vid.
+trionone It works great but I did have a pole snap because my son was swinging on it like I told him not to. It should be fine if used as intended
Excellent idea and video!
+Daniel Hooft Thank you I appreciate that
Awesome idea,well done!
Thank you
So simple, yet absolutely great. Removable posts! I googled "How to build hammock posts" and your video came up first. No need to look at any other! Nice work man.
Hey thanks for the comment and that's good to know about Google I didn't know that
😨...🖒👏🖑😁 awesome! love it!!😍 thank you for sharing 🤗! cannot wait to do this!!!😁😋
No problem
That’s a great design, man. Thanks!
No problem hope it works out
Just the video I was looking for! Thanks!
No problem thanks for watching
Thanks for the idea. I'm going to do the same but I have 2 4x4 so it will cost slightly more but I'll use a 4x4 vinyl fence sleeve. This could be a solution for heaver guys as well. Thanks for sharing and the inspiration.
+Rock Haven Farm That's originally what I was going to do but the fence post sleeves were significantly more expensive but whatever works for you as long as you enjoy it
How'd it go? I'm looking to do the same.
Genius! Thanks for the great idea.
Thank you and you're welcome
brilliant!
I bet it could support a big boy hammock or two person easy. Great Idea! If I build one I will also film it!
Just be careful. It will hold some weight but my son thought it was a playground swing and caused one of the poles to snap but if you use it as intended you shouldn’t have a problem
Great Idea. I love it. Thank you.
No problem
Lol I didn't want to put a "banana" stand in my backyard either. Glad I came across this. Thanks for sharing!

+Gavin Casper Awesome hope it works out

No problem
Hey thanks for making the video this is great
No problem thanks for watching.
Great info.. I am going to set mine up today. I chose to use the white pvc 4×4 fence post sleeves set in the ground ...
Appreciate it and I like the sleeve idea
I had a similar problem of not having trees or solid supports for my new hammock. I have looked for ideas online & mostly were for use with trees. This video has reinforced my idea of sinking tubes in my lawn for removable upright posts. My original idea was to use metal tubes, but the suggestion of using wooden posts seems most useful. Thanks again for the video. Best of luck for your future.
Thank you and I hope it works out for you.
Brilliant! I'm totally doing this
+Michael Alm thank you and I hope it works out
Thanks for your Extra info about this topics
Wonderful idea
+Ayaharyt Valero Thank you
Absolutely fantastic idea. I was looking for something exactly like this. I think I may add a third post. The. I could hang three hammocks.
+Jeffrey T That would be a great idea. Using this video and tweaking it to suit your needs is why I made the video. Just getting people to think outside the box
beauty... thanks..
cheers from Canada
+CNTrails JMV Thank you and thanks for watching
Growing up we had a similar system in our backyard, the only difference is that we had metal posts with hooks. Worked great forever, hope yours lasts as long. Happy hanging
That's awesome. Hopefully it does but if it fails it will be the posts that fail and those are about five bucks apiece so a cheep fix. Thanks for watching.
Great idea!!
Thank you
that's awesome thanks for the share!
No problem thanks for watching
great video thanks man
No problem brother glad you liked it
Great Idea!
+Darignobullseye Thank you
perfect job, i like it
+DAD oj Thank you sir
I've thought of this many times and wondered why people would cement the posts in when they could make it like you did - who wants to look at two posts sticking out of the ground when not in use??? The end caps prevent little feet from tripping as well as animals from falling in. Nice touch with the round fence posts - I always had my mind set on 4x4s, but I like the round posts better. Happy hangin'!
Appreciate that
Great instructions. Thanks
No problem thanks for watching
that's pretty good I was thinking of something kinda similar but I like what you did that way you can cap them off and don't really have to worry about stuff getting inn there and if it does like you said you can just run the shop vac down there and get it out good job
Thanks brother. Yeah I've had it over a year now and everything still works as planned even though I don't use it as much as I'd like to.
That's what I'm talkn' 'bout. You're tha man.
+Zack Smith Lol thanks
Awesome Idea
+Nigel McNamara Thank you
Freaking awesome idea! I'm 220 and I'm pretty sure that the poles would bend a lot more so I'm going to use heavy guy lines to try and anchor the poles to minimize bending. Going to start this project tomorrow.
+snakemonkey555 Probably no need. I'm about 200 and my wife and I lay in it together and it does just fine
How did your project go? I'm 225 and curious how your setup is working.
+ChoctawFlute Working great so far we love it.
Fantastic idea! I was faced with a similar dilemma earlier this summer with where to hang my ENO at home. No trees whatsoever in my small back yard and only one red maple tree in my front yard. I wish I had though of your removable post idea or seen your video sooner. Instead, what I did was buy a pair of 4x6 ten foot tall fence posts ($20 ea.) and the 2 bags of Quickcrete like you used. I was only able to get my holes dug about 24-26" deep and not much larger around than the posts themselves, so when I inserted the quite heavy posts, they stood straight up because there was so little room around them in the holes I dug. I filled the remaining space with the Quickcrete and water only. Unfortunately, I had a slight miscalculation and dug my holes 22' apart, which has created a challenge getting a comfortable hang but I overcame that obstacle by hanging my ENO from two points on a paracord ridge line (though it stretches badly) tied between the two fence posts. Using my Atlas Straps at 22' made the hammock too rigid, even with the straps at the highest point on the posts. Less rigid put me on the ground in the hammock, so the ridge line technique had to be employed. It's a pain to mow around these posts so your idea is really a great one! Kudos!
Thanks I really appreciate that. You can always remove the posts you already put in and try this idea. Or if you can't remove them just cut them off at the ground and start over.
awesome work mate. been thinking of something like this myself for a while. I'm pretty surprised there isn't a kit. 😉. I might give it a go. thanks
+Elliot Hyndman That's what I was thinking when I built it. I searched every thinking surely there is a kit for this type of thing.
ARCHunter411 still going strong after a couple of years?
+Elliot Hyndman I did have a pole snap but that was because my son and his friend were jumping on it and using it as it wasn't made to be used or else it would have been fine. I actually don't use it anymore because I moved but I have trees now.
Lovely idea.. Thanks..
+Mrhycannon No problem
Nice yard. Perfect for soccer!
great idea, going to do that myself, will let you know how it turned out. thanks for the video
Awesome glad it helped and definitely let me know how it turns out.
bomartin .....It has been two years and you haven't gotten back to us bomartin. Where have you gone. And more importantly, what happened to the hammok. bo..... where have you been?
@@ramondjo 5 years later, he must have fallen into the hole or something
😂
Perfect, I have to do this!
+The Wifey Of Have fun and enjoy
This is a great idea.
Thank you enjoy
That's Sweet ! I was just outside looking where I could hang the hammock. No need for me to search any longer. Thanks Dude. Rob.
+Rob B No problem enjoy it
This worked well for me. One thing i had trouble with was the landscape tinbers are rough cut so some are bigger than others. Take your 4" pvc with you and make sure the timber fits into the pvc before you buy, some wont fit so save yourself a trip.
Good advice
AWESOME idea!! i think i'll do it this summer instead of buying a real hammock stand
Thank you. It will probably be cheaper also if you already have the basic tools.
I just did this only I used 4 bags of concrete each hole and a bag and half of rock on bottom of each hole. I weigh 350 pounds and it's solid as a rock. great video
+Jar Hiker That's awesome. Thinking outside the box and making it work for you that's what this video is all about. Enjoy
This is a great idea. I imagine if you make a brace in between at the top it could support more weight
Good idea. I don’t see why that wouldn’t work
Simple but genius! 👍🏽
+Goon Dawg Thank you
Damn good idea!
Appreciate that
Thanks! Great idea...
No problem
