  • Didn't mention it in the video, but I gotta say, playing a Sonic game at 30 fps is wack. Thanks to emulation, so many can have their framerates increased. I think this is the first game I've had to play at 30. And it's rough. Makes it feel so much worse. Technically not a fair criticism as many other games run at 30 by default. But it still sucks!
btw, this is my second time making this video. The first one turned out kinda bad, so I started over. This version is much better, but gets all the same points across.

The devs of the 3DS/PSP (scrapped) version allegedly had only 9 months to make this game, which would explain the rushed aspect of this game: reused level designs, bad story presentation, staff credits is just a slideshow of screenshots from the original games.

Agreed with the handheld celebration point. To this day this game remains the biggest missed opportunity in the franchise to me. Not making the portable version of Generations a full-on celebration of portable Sonic titles makes me sad. That there are some portable elements present at least tells me that someone in the dev team felt the same and got stuck midway between vision and realization. I feel you, people in the credits.

This is completely a case where me having this as a kid kind of completely overrides any of my ability to critically analyze this game. I got this and the 3DS for Christmas in 2011 and this game just sort of inherited my main game spot for such a long time because I mostly played on my GBA, DS, and 3DS back in those days. So I spent an ungodly amount of time playing this and really don’t have any problems with it. I know now the level design is definitely a lot weaker than pretty much every other 2D Sonic title, but since I have it 100% completely mastered and memorized, I still have a lot of fun doing speedruns for this game. I agree with you tho that it is very weak, but I just love the game anyways purely because I played this pretty much every day over the course of a solid 2 year period.

This a poor man's Generations, but as a poor kid with no Xbox or PS3, I played the hell out of this. I didnt have a smart phone either, so I would listen to the music they had in Collections all the time.

Okay here's a hot take: I like the homing attack in 2D, it's just that the level design usually doesn't use it well. Sonic Megamix made me realize this, but I always thought the air dash when you're not locked onto anything was fun even in Sonic 4.

There is one good thing about this game. The Big Arm remix.

"Sonic was always good! Except the comics which avidly are the best part of the franchise..." pick up a book, please

Yeah, the 3DS Generation is certainly a misstep and it was made by Dimps. Dimps were a rather capable team that made decent 2D Sonic games like Advance trilogy and Rush duology. It's regrettable that in the 2010s Dimps devolved from a competent team to a way less competent and creative team which would give them a bad reputation. What SEGA has done to them?

This game actually has a competetive online mode where you race another player through the main game's stages and exchange what are essentially Sonic business cards that show your ranks in all the stages, your Mii, your favorite Sonic game and Sonic character (including relatively deep cuts for 2011 Sonic like Tikal and Sonic Blast), and it even shows how long you've been a

I am so excited to hear your thoughts on Lost World 3DS. I know it's probably the last thing you would want to play after this game has shown that Dimps certainly fell off, but even if SLW3DS has some problems I think it's a huge step up to Gens 3DS. The majority of the gameplay is actually 3D, level design is hardly boring, and I quite enjoy the time attack especially with the infinite spindash. I also liked it so much I had the any% speedrun world record for a little bit.

  • @MiloTheMightyDude

I remember having this version before the console version, and it's saying something that I had completely forgotten what zones were in this one aside from Green Hill and Water Palace.

  • @sehtuk3953

To this day, I'll never understand why Tropical Resort of all levels is the last level. Like, I get that it was probably the second most popular stage after Planet Wisp, but Asteroid Coaster would've worked so much better as a final stage.

  • @johnnycakemusic4069

Glad you made the Generations 3ds video, but im still waiting for the next video game topic video. (Limited lives, emulation etc.)

  • @mitch_universe4058

I played a shit out of the online mode in this game back when this game came out. I remember specifically racing on the Radical Highway stage as Modern Sonic, that stage was so fun back a the day. I remember you could also set your profile page to say how long you had been a Sonic fan, who your favorite character was and what your favorite game was

  • @GoofyPoptart

Dude....I literally just picked this game back up 2 day's ago and you upload about it Nice!! I only decided to play this cause Im currently playing it on My Steam Deck so when Im at Work I've been playing my 3DS here on break instead.

  • @esdrasreis3481

I do like this game quite a bit, but it's definitely the most "it's alright" Sonic game, it also doesn't that Classic Sonic straight up reuses level design, but hey, I like boost Sonic and this is basically more of it
