The "SEGA" part in the title of the second game was removed for a reason. The again, the first game had the beloved SEGA characters Banjo and Kazooie in it....
Transformed's aesthetic is so crazy to me because you look at the environments and they all SEEM generic at first. After Burner's track is just an ocean with some warships and planes, NiGHTs's track is just a forest, hell the Burning Rangers track looks like an Unreal Engine asset flip. But the moment you learn what each course is meant to represent that elevates it because you can see how the designers worked around having limited assets.
Something important to mention when talking about SEGA All Stars Tennis is it has like a BILLION challenges. Like so many, and they are all different game modes. There's a Sonic one for collecting rings while versing Eggman robots, a puyopuyo one where you have to match colours, a zombie one where you need to kill a certain amount of zombies, et cetera. Like the game may not be mechanically deep, but there is a LOT of content, especially for singleplayer. And it's pretty fun too.
What I never liked about the Sega racing games is the items don’t feel like they came form the home series, the only one being the shield from Sonic advance 3(the look of it), the rest are generic items in a game. The sequel did it worse if I’m being honest. Where’s spray paint from jet set that can blind the opponent like blooper? Where’s an egg from Billy Hatcher that can slow down an opponent or run them over?(billy’s all star doesn’t count) even the punch gloves that act like green shells could have looked like from Super Monkey Ball :/
This reply is super late, but here's a fun fact: in the Japanese version of Racing Transformed, the pufferfish item is replaced with a Garbage Puyo. Obviously not enough to save the game, because I otherwise agree that there should be more Sega-themed items (shoutouts to Sonic's shoes in the first game which acted like the Mario Kart Mushrooms), but still worth mentioning.
To be honest i find sega superstars tennis very insteresting for a clone of mario tennis, because the mission mode it has is much more fleshed out than mario used to at the time with its alternative modes. I remember playing a lot of the puyo puyo mode, got introduced to jet set radio through the jet set radio mode and even nights into dreams through it. But i totally agree with yout take on transformed, that is the true celebration of sega, and i remember having a blast with it exactly because it was packed with a lot of references for sega nerds like us (seeing a classic shinobi stage realized in full 3d hd was the icing for me)
I was NOT expecting you to cover this Game, but HELL YEAH. I loved this game so much growing up. I think my sister got an RC car of Sonic and his car from this game at some point. Was so much fun!
i remember loving but being sooo trash at Superstars Tennis. still love the menu theme though, and the intro holds up. it feels more believable that the Sega characters are friends than Nintendo characters are tbh
Can't believe Sega's sitting on the money pile of an idea that a new Sega All Stars with Like A Dragon, SMT/Persona, etc. content would be. If I don't see Morgana in boat form get his ass handed to him by Kid Chameleon in Wood Oak City in my lifetime I'm giving up
It's so lame how Sumo Digital went from one of the greatest kart racers ever with Transformed, to the subpar AI/multiplayer dependant TSR. At least the music is rad as fuck
Man, I really hope we get a new Sega All-Stars Racing game one of these days. They have so many new popular series they can throw into the fold. Plus Sega is bringing back a ton of older series like Shinobi, Jet Set and Crazy Taxi so this would be a good way of advertising them.
Exactly, and now they can add in Atlus and Rovio content into the games to have more popular content for casuals to join in Sega's history (they just have too many unused IPs)
Sega Superstars Tennis for the PS2 was my childhood. I spent hours playing and unlocking everything in that game. Yes, it is a pretty standard tennis game, but I found it very charming, it was my comfort game when I didn't knew what to play. As a huge Sega fan, the Planet Superstars mode had a lot of references to multiple Sega games, even Alex Kidd. My favorite mini-game was the Puyo Puyo Fever game, because I liked Mean Bean Machine, and the NiGHTs court was one of the most calming scerarios of the game. I spent most of the time getting high scores on the Puyo mini-game.
If a 3rd Sega All Stars Racing happens i really want it to take Team Races as an alternative mode and Customizable parts (But no stats modifing) from Team Sonic Racing, maybe some of the stages too, those are parts of that game i feel would help a lot in selling a proper sequel. For the characters outside of the ones you mentioned i think Yagami from Judgment would be a fun one, just because his Plane form could be a giant drone like the one he has in both games.
Hey just something to warn you is that i tried accessing the video early through your ko-fi, and the video just wouldn't play, i think it's because i tried to access it on mobile but in the moment my computer is without internet so i can't compare to see if it works there. Anyways, about the game, i only played the demo on xbox and it was fun! It's a very simple game and i liked what i played so far, maybe one day i'll check out the full game! It's definitely a shame that they never did another sega crossover cuz Sonic is not the only sega franchise i grew up with. I played Streets Of Rage, Ristar and even Alex Kidd, but all of these were forgotten by Sega,(or at least, i think, i know Streets Of Rage 4 but that's about it, if there is a new Ristar or Alex Kidd please let me know!) Yeah, that's about it, there's not much to say, good vid.
The original racing game has the better roster, much better singleplayer, *MUCH* better super items, a mobile port that was actually 1 to 1 for the time, and the best announcer in racing game history so long as you aren't playing on mobile. The game has so much character and plays really well. I liked this more than Mario Kart Wii and DS as a kid. Casino-opolis is the best stage in the game though, I will hear no slander.
If Sega is willing to revive some of their older IP then they definitely should remake sonic and Sega All-Stars racing or at least port it to modern platforms because that would be a dream come true
I remember when I got this game. It was my first new game since before this, I had only gotten PSX Classics, the Adventure Games, and... that was it for awhile. This game hooked me on the Sega IPs (Well, that and the Sega Hard Girls). It made me enjoy what franchises were Sega-based, and made me wish we got more stuff that celebrated Sega outside Sonic. I STILL wait for the day we could get a Sega vs Capcom, doubly so after things like Worlds Collide in Archie Sonic. In terms of actual racing games... I still prefer the Riders series, especially Riders 1, but this game made me feel like liking the franchises of Sega was worth it every step of the way, even with the many missteps.
I grew up wit the 1st game & 100% as a kid. I played it that much lol. I've also played transformed(even played the multiplayer wit some friends) & I genuinely think it's 1 of the "best" cart racers in existence. They both got me interested in more Sega stuff beyond sonic & I'm glad for that. I do think it's funny they added Ralph & Danica Patrick but to be fair in Ralphs' case his 1st movie had a bunch of VG cameos includin Sonic & Eggman at the time so that made enough sense to me. idk bout the others tho lol
I have to say, as someone who really likes ASRT, if they make an enhamced port of it with some new things and fiximg some bugs, I would have no reason to return to MK8. What I really prefer about this game is that it doesn't have as much bs with it's itens. Every time you are hit in this game is because of the good aim of the oponent or the lack of skill on your end to avoid the hit. Even the homing itens can be avoided by using a boost of any type when it is about to hit you.
Transformed is probably one of the games I played the most. I think it's the best kart racer out there with its unique gimmick and also a hell of a lot of fan service. This game made me interested in games like Skies of Arcadia, but without an emulator, getting to play that might be difficult.
Sega has so many cool franchises at this current moment that they just aren't making any use out of. I really hope we get a fighting game where Kiryu gets his ass beat by hatsune miku.
Glad you're talking about these games because I genuinely prefer them over the entire mario kart series. Even the DS version of all stars is a way better kart racer than Mario Kart DS, it even runs in 60fps. I wish they'd have a compilation for modern consoles so I can play it on the Switch. Instead of the downgrade that is Team Sonic Racing.
The sense of speed in sasrt is insane, combined with all the drift chains and risk boosts you have to take makes it very exciting. And no stupid fucking blue shells. Played the shit out of it when it came out. I'd even say you're underselling it a bit in this video You forgot/didn't bother to mention the DS versions of tennis and racing. Tennis was ok, I don't remember much about it, but sonic and sega racing on the DS was actually pretty damn good compared to its competition on the console. Probably the best racer on the DS?
I’m shocked you didn’t mention how you don’t lose as much speed when getting hit compared to Mario Kart. My personal problem with Transformed game is how hard it gets when trying to 100%. It starts to get near an impossible feeling at times and I haven’t even unlocked the S rank missions.
Unexpected SEGA Hard Girls reference, but no mention of Phantasy Star which is for some reason forgotten and absent from every crossover they do, despite it being so at-the-time groundbreaking and technically one of their core IPs (and now PSO2 is the company's biggest source of income) . . . I am both elated and saddened . . .
This is the only fitting video I can drop this headcanon But I think a part of why Sonic would not like racing is because he isn't a competition guy, friendly games and challenges maybe but based on how Sonic was shown to be in the older eras, I think he doesn't like the idea of winning against other people with his speed, Sonic's speed is natural to him and using it just to outdo others isn't something he'd be into, that and there'd be a lot of rules and Sonic probably doesn't like that, again cause he is a free spirit, even Sonic X kinda went into that where everybody was like "Sonic we NEED you to race." and since it was people forcing Sonic to do something he didn't feel like doing he didn't like that a bit. Also I have the DS version of Sega All Stars racing and it's pretty aight, not the best game ever but it's pretty slick
2:05 I agree, and I personally never count the game for Sonic game tier lists because, it’s not a Sonic game. That’s like saying Smash is a Mario game because of the amount of Mario content in Smash and if they added Mario to the title. (I don’t hate the title tho, but I still agree)
they removed the chuchus and the bonzai bros, as well as some other characters who were in the first all stars racing which im so disappointed about, they were my mains
Alright, I'm just a few seconds in and I want to clarify that yes; I have played the original Sega Superstars...kind of, it just didn't work as well for me. But it was ok lol. Anyway, for me, the racing games are neck & neck and I'll tell ya why. IMO the first game was fine and I liked the character selection and progression more. Yeah it can be slow, but it's way faster than how you have to unlock them in Transformed. But I do like the gameplay more in Transformed. Also the track variety is better. But I just hated how long it took to unlock characters. The first one gave you a choice of who you'd like to unlock first and Transformed doesn't. Shadow, being my favorite Sonic character, took too long to unlock and that's annoying. Also WHY DID ONLY THE PC VERSION GET DLC?! I mean yeah the console versions got something too, but PC got like 95% of the DLC! That always confused me and pissed me off lol. So overall, I like them equally in different ways. Also the Tennis game is ok.
Sega needs to bring it back. It deserves a remake or sequel. I actually liked Sega Superstars Tennis and wouldn't mind seeing it return either. Hot Shots Tennis is another nice alternative to Mario Power Tennis. Mario Tennis Aces isn't really all that great imo and Mario Ultra Smash Tennis is trash. I love the Mario Kart series, but I don't think it's super perfect like a lot of people try to make it out to be. Super Mario Kart is boring asf to play nowadays, Mario Kart 64 didn't age well (looking back, Crash Team Racing is a lot better), Mario Kart Super Circuit is boring, Mario Kart: Double Dash (while fun) feels like you're driving on ice, Mario Kart Wii's AI is insane, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's speed feels a little slow.
Kinda disagree with the Mario kart comparison with the sonic and Sega all Stars racing cause I grew up with the game but I do notice some similarities so you do make a good point there
Used to play the racing game on the Wii all the time as a kid. Also I think Ichiban would be a better fit for a kart racer than Kiryu because there is literally a kart racing minigame in LAD7
I actually did play Sega Superstars for the PS2. It was fine enough for what it was, definitely not the kind of thing worth revisiting once you checked it out, though.
5:25 ya see those two guys in front? yeah, that's why tbf though they also put banjo and kazooie in the xbox 360 version of s&sasr and didn't drop the "sega" so 8:01 oh my b i forgor
it's really upsetting how these two kart racers reference such obscure games yet Puyo puyo has basically no representation despite being one of their most successful franchises. I guess the developers are western, but still
Ignoring Virtua Fighter, it's weird how Sonic the Hedgehog is the ONLY flagship SEGA ip. Like and Dragon, Puyo Puyo, and Sakura Wars are also SEGA's flagship franchises that are very popular in Japan, but they are only niche in the west (LAD was niche until 2017, but still) and overshadowed by NiGHTS, Space Channel 5, Billy Hatcher, and EVEN Chu Chu Rocket. Phantasy Star is SEGA's flagship RPG, and yet Skies of Arcadia gets the rep instead.
Around 2:55 I DISAGREE, while there still are items *grumble grumble as racing fan that doesn't like those kind of mechanics* the fact that the items can be less punishing here make it better in my opinion... For both All Stars Racing games... Yeah i hate items in racing games, i find them unfair, dare to put pressure on me and force me to make mistakes damn it, i hate the "shell/missile/whatever" and then you lose position because someone was just given an items. If im competiting i prefer to get my ass kick because i wasn't up to the task like it happens to me on racing simulators or card games like i get my ass kicked on magic, and yugioh, etc... I never said i was good, i said that i prefer to lose because i wasn't good enough not because of someone got an item and now i don't know if i stood a chance or not. if someone wants random chance in a board game, fine, i don't find that as competitive as this.
Well, You say sonic racing transformed doesn't go really hard let me tell you it does in the expert difficulty and here is a proof ua-cam.com/video/Fa3MUFKwmj0/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared you can watch the whole video but is 4 hours so you only can watch at 1:47:49 to get the idea. In any case it's great review.
I could've reviewed the the original Sonic ASR way better. You were harsh on it. The physics are peak to any kart racer. You couldn't even begin to talk about the missions of the game. There are in fact things that set apart Sonic ASR from Mario Kart. Take more time to actually play the game and then tell me if the game is lacking or not.
The controls and physics here got nothing on Mario Kart or CTR. And I did play the mission mode. It was so boring I didn't feel it was worth mentioning.
Both all stars racing games are leagues better than mario kart, mario Kart has been the most overrated racer for decades lol, it's so poorly balanced and people somehow think its amazing rofl
Ah yes, Team Fortress 2, my favorite Sega IP... If only they cared enough about the game to fix the Eggman robot problem.
And Wreck It Ralph too. Definitely my favourite Sega character of all time.
You guys missed the best game sega ever made, starring danica patrick???
Look at all those mannco's robots!
The "SEGA" part in the title of the second game was removed for a reason.
The again, the first game had the beloved SEGA characters Banjo and Kazooie in it....
When transformed is played online with friends, the game turns from a 7/10 experience to a 11/10 experience
It's already 8.5/10 it's amazing omg
Transformed's aesthetic is so crazy to me because you look at the environments and they all SEEM generic at first. After Burner's track is just an ocean with some warships and planes, NiGHTs's track is just a forest, hell the Burning Rangers track looks like an Unreal Engine asset flip. But the moment you learn what each course is meant to represent that elevates it because you can see how the designers worked around having limited assets.
Didn’t expect a Sega Hard Girls namedrop today lol
FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!

Crazy that they announced Shadow Generations right after you did Sonic Generations
6:48 fun fact: this is in the ds version of the 1st game
I was NOT expecting you to cover this Game, but HELL YEAH. I loved this game so much growing up. I think my sister got an RC car of Sonic and his car from this game at some point. Was so much fun!
Transformed is better than MK8 imo. Only thing it's missing is Vectorman.
Its better then like half of Mario Kart games
i remember loving but being sooo trash at Superstars Tennis. still love the menu theme though, and the intro holds up. it feels more believable that the Sega characters are friends than Nintendo characters are tbh
the first Sega Racing game is still my favorite in the Sonic racing games too tbh. feels faster and more chaotic than the ones that followed it
facts brother
I remember the side modes being a lot of fun. The Space Harrier one in particular was super cool.
Sega has so many cool IPs they really could have this series be Smash Bros but as a racing game.
The Golden Axe stage is sooooo good. Especially the music.
NiGHTS car

@@fabianugalde3789I forgot Sega owns Rovio now. Yeah we could totally get Angry Birds characters and tracks in the next All Stars Racing

Well, there is also the mobile game Sega Heroes and the older Segaga and Fighters Megamix. I think they're unofficial Sega All Stars games
@@fabianugalde3789 true
I really love Sega All Stars Tennis. It's simple, but I come back to it often.
If a 3rd Sega All Stars Racing happens i really want it to take Team Races as an alternative mode and Customizable parts (But no stats modifing) from Team Sonic Racing, maybe some of the stages too, those are parts of that game i feel would help a lot in selling a proper sequel.

Transformed is the best thing tk co.e out of SEGA as a whole.
ASRT is gotta be the single greatest and most underrated kart racer ever made. MK8 has NOTHING on this game.
Transformed is the first game i beat on 100%
I actually did play Sega Superstars for the PS2.
It was fine enough for what it was, definitely not the kind of thing worth revisiting once you checked it out, though.
5:25 ya see those two guys in front? yeah, that's why
tbf though they also put banjo and kazooie in the xbox 360 version of s&sasr and didn't drop the "sega" so
8:01 oh my b i forgor
I would love to hear your thoughts on sonic lost world
Are you even a real sega fan if you don't know who danica patrick is
It's a NASCAR driver
@@AhyeahThisishappeningwrong, Danica Patrick is the secret unlockable final story in Sonic Adventure 2
@@deanmoriarty6015 No way, really I don't remember
Well ACKSHUALLY the tennis game is called Sega Superstars Tennis not Sega All-Stars Tennis, fake fan, smh.
I wish I have a conversation like yours so keep trying ... 😊
it's really upsetting how these two kart racers reference such obscure games yet Puyo puyo has basically no representation despite being one of their most successful franchises.
I guess the developers are western, but still
My dad and I played it on ps2
You should review Valkyria Chronicles 4.
It was fine but love transformed more but wish riders could come back
Around 2:55 I DISAGREE, while there still are items *grumble grumble as racing fan that doesn't like those kind of mechanics* the fact that the items can be less punishing here make it better in my opinion...
Well, You say sonic racing transformed doesn't go really hard let me tell you it does in the expert difficulty and here is a proof
ua-cam.com/video/Fa3MUFKwmj0/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared you can watch the whole video but is 4 hours so you only can watch at 1:47:49 to get the idea.
In any case it's great review.
TF2 is probably the main reason I like this game, cause I play TF2-
I could've reviewed the the original Sonic ASR way better.
Honestly Racing Transformed is the Only good one
The first game felt too basic and clunky in comparison
Both all stars racing games are leagues better than mario kart, mario Kart has been the most overrated racer for decades lol, it's so poorly balanced and people somehow think its amazing rofl
Ah man, he keeps mentioning TF2!!
He's gotta review that game and talk about dem movement mechanics bro 😁
