    Copart and Ebay?
    We check out why I bought them, how much they cost and whats wrong with them!

    Quality and finish in the A3 is superb. No other small car really competes with it. Wife bought a Sportback new in 2006 and still nothing has gone wrong with it- even the battery lasted 12 years. Would very much enjoy videos on repairs.

    Those PD engines are famous for oil pump issues. My Passat with the 2.0TDI had the later non chain drive pump but I changed out the balance shaft unit and turbo as it started whining at about 60k.
    Now done over 148k in the car and it's still going strong. So definitely do the repair in my view. Garrett OEM turbos had for about £600 which is much less expensive than Audi direct

    I had similar turbo problem with 2005 A4 TDI. Solved by Powermax Engineering updated pump kit (£471.97) Turbo rebuild to new hybrid (£414.00) and Big End Bolts (£41.86). 40 hours labour to strip, fit and repair. Car cost £3,000.00 originally. Sold for £2,350.00 after doing another 20k miles after repair. Not bad considering...

  • @MiracleMitch
    @MiracleMitch 4 роки тому

    As well as oil pump chain tensioner wear issues VAG 2.0 TDI between 2005 and 2009 also have balancer unit shaft issues (those engines fitted with a Lanchester balancer unit) where the hexagonal 'key' bar driving the oil pump from shaft 2 of the balancer unit were matched with a 12 point 'spline' hole in the shaft itself and there was some slight play between them. This meant the key and the hole wear over time (80k to 150k on average) to the point that the key rounds off damaging the weak shaft hole at the same time and oil pump drive ceases. No more oil pressure = imminent engine death.
    Does your 57 plate A3 have a balancer unit? If so did you check the oil pump drive key bar and second shaft hole for wear? If not there's no need to worry.
    Plenty of information on this infamous VAG engine problem on the Web.

    Yes, get them repaired - You''ll be best to find the wiring diagram on ELSAwin for the 3.2 A3.
    I'm betting on BCM issue.......wiring issue would presumably still trigger a bulb fail 'fast flash' which it doesnt show symptoms of.

  • @Alecks1990
    @Alecks1990 4 роки тому

    3:00 to be honest mate, if the 2.0 TDI hat problems with the oil pressure and in this case even any oil going to the needed parts in result even the turbo totaled, which would usally not happend at around 100k, i would open up the engine and check the (pardon my english) "cross grinding", dont know if that the right word. i would check for damage on the cylinder walls, if it has full compression, if maybe the crankshaft bearings are damaged or if other parts did suffer of not enough lubrication.
    i would not be happy to sell a car, where i know the turbo had to be replaced because of a complete lose of any lubrication throughout the system, without checkind every part of the system. yes it is quite a lot of work, but it could go at any minute, if someone hits it hard on the motorway.

  • @rhiantaylor3446

    Did that generation 2.0TDI have a chain driven oil pump? I thought they had one driven by a "hex drive" which prior to 2010 was susceptible to rounding off resulting in failure, oil starvation and, as you experienced, secondary damage to the turbo.

    That Audi does the headlight work by any chance because ive heard about having to replace bulbs on both sides on newer version cars something about the voltage of the bulbs and the sycnorisation with the ECU unit correcting itself because bulbs being faulty or not working and then won't turn on
