LYRICS
This trail is obsidian, the grip of Winter uncoiled
A lover would follow me
Cast down and sworn to the dark
Take the road where devils speak
"God is dead"
The wealth of darkness
Inside you, tell you "now"
Your senses corrupted
Controlling a poisonous will
Take the road where devils speak
"God is dead"
In the corner of my eye
You are tearing flesh from bone
Led the blind in search to find
A pathway to the sun
Saw the signs intertwine
And forgave me all my sins
No stigmas revealing our vices
And there are no stigmas revealing our vices
God is dead - Розваги
Nietzsche liked this
hahahha I was looking for this kind of comment here
Ibn Sina word up
I was literally going to write a very similar thing!
Did you call me? c:
Hahaaa....I can see make headbangging, up the friedrich
God is not dead! He himself played the last guitar-solo in this song!!
He died after it
God is not dead I'm a Christian he rose from from the grave on the 3rd day
?????
Heikki Aho Exactly. And they sing that he’s dead because they’ve been recording guitars before vocals.
Nathan Bennett I believe that was Jesus dude
This proves you don't need a heavy guitar tone and growls to sound evil.
Couldn't agree more to that comm... Very acurate
shame after this and pale communion they kinda lost it
Well, there's the distorted Organ layer that's adding all the evil-ness
That "God is dead" part always gives me goosebumps!
Garret Bobby Ferguson me too, the willies
Specifically the one at the end of the song. Fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Some people say its cringe/cheesy.
@@daghetto101 I've seen a lot of people who think that but they usually don't realize he isn't saying to be edgy, he's describing a place where devils speak to you, telling you God is dead. He's not just randomly saying it for shock value.
Honestly, this is one of the best Opeth songs I've heard. Just because it's not death metal doesn't mean it sucks.
Facts
I dont think the argument was about them being death metal, but the style of even soft older opeth is vastly different than what newer opeth is.
I dont think I have ever heard an Opeth song I didnt like
Fact is, both sides of this endless Opeth debate are fucking idiotic. Those who like Heritage and PM call anyone who disagrees "moronic metalheads", while the metalheads call the other side "pretentious" or "fanboys who will buy anything with the Opeth name on it". Fact is, we're all entitled to our own outlook and tastes. Why I have to even point this out is beyond me.
Oh, Opeth, how you have changed during all these years. Yet for me, this feels as one of your deepest albums. As a true fan, I hope that you will continue your journey wherever it leads you, and I will follow. Becasue I know that, no matter what, you are only capable of masterpieces. Either strong and mesmerizing or deep and haunting.
Man, Per's skills are excellent in this song.
IMO Every Opeth album is a masterpiece
They always put out great music. They new album is is phenomenal too. These guys are like a modern day heavy Metal ELP or even Rush. They have consistently pushed the boundaries of music every album. So well written, the guitars are some of the best in music the keys are like a through back too the early prog rock days. They have down it all Progresses Metal Rock, jazz, Blues even tons of classical component. They have been around fonr a long time. they need to keep it fresh. They inspire me to want to jam out again. Just listening to them makes me a better drummer & song writer. Hope they are around as long as possible.
,
Is every Trivium album a masterpiece?
Shogun/Ascendancy/In Waves is my top 3
I AM THE TABLE lol wot?
The guitar solo at the very end of this track, although short, to me is one of the best and greatest guitar solo ever performed. There is so much tension in it, makes me feel like I’m trapped at the core of a violent rising tornado that flips me over helplessly until I fall into the heart of a volcano. Absolutely amazing, in just a few seconds. I never get tired of listening to that part.. BRAVO Fredrick !!
It is one of the best Opeth albums, its metal attitude rather than metal sound, and it sounds great
Have to say this album is definitely growing on me, especially after seeing it performed live.
Mike's definitely got some balls to do this. Big respect for Opeth. Art is selfish, that's the way it has to be. When you cater to your fan base it's no longer art...
Ariana Grande: God is a woman!
Mikael Akerfeldt: GOD IS DEEEEAAAADD!!!!
Nietzche
Opeth albums are basically philosophy classes with lots of riffs and growling.
Mikael Akerfeldt is the epitome of musical genius.
True dat
I promise you won't regret buying a single one of their albums. Even the ones that take the longest to grow on you, like Orchid for example, are totally awesome and WELL worth the money spent for a physical copy.
This song live was absolutely amazing
Danika Poirier yesir
I love the way they've gone with this one, so fluid, often psychedelic.
The solo at 5:50 is haunting
Is it weird to listen to this on the way to church
Andy Bruce god is dead so it doesn't matter
+Andy Bruce God is dead
To each their own. And to people who will shame you for it, fuck off.
you're awesome andy!
Got matches tho?
Love this band! Their new and old music is such a musical journey of an evolution of a band, couldn't ask for such fine musicianship in a metal band!
The outro is out of this world and killing me softly.
This is one of those albums that really grows on you with time. It was hard to really get into at first after years of extreme metal, but playing this now, I'm in awe.
Artists aren't only trying to make you happy. You probably wont love every single song of every single album so that is why you focus on the stuff you do like. My favorite albums are Damnation and Orchid, but I respect everything they do.
4:47 is my favorite part and also 5:50
I never thought highly of opeth. I was wrong. Opeth is AWESOME!
you should check out their older works
not thinking highly of opeth is a MISSTAKE
I love opeth so unique and genuin sound I like them more for the creativity it Is just awsome they don't hold back and I like that
This song is so masterfully pieced together. I prefer this over any of their older stuff, beautifully unique and soulful. And unbelievable musicianship. 10/10. 👏👏
i love metal......... this album is a musical genuine musical invention after long years of metal performances on stages ......he knows WHAT HE IS DOING THIS GUY is a genius JUST ENJOY THE album
It’s not just him that’s genius, i would say it’s the entire band
So many state their thoughts as fact. This album is better than that album. These vocals are not as cool as those vocals. There's no comparison, this guitar riff can't match up to that guitar riff. Blue is better than red, obviously. Yellow is worse than green. Come on, just either enjoy the music, or enjoy some other kind of music you like. Someone liking something that you don't like doesn't make what they like "bad" and doesn't make them stupid or have bad taste. To imply otherwise is ignorance wrapped in arrogance. Can we not appreciate both prog and brutal crushing metal?
Just give em time, everyone breaks when listening to Opeth sooner or later.
But yellow is indeed worse than green
@@dajecm without yellow green does not exist
@@gasolini2002 it's called evolution
All their albums are pure genius
This is one the greatest song of metal in my opinion, really innovative, you feel the heaviness without the growls and heavly distorted sound
Quick and straight to the point. I like it.
This rules
masterpiece...
One of the best things I've heard in a long long time. Absolutely Incredible.
I saw them live for the first time last night and it was awesome! I've never really paid any attention to this band but now I'm hooked!
I played this song for my guitar exam! the looks on my classmates' faces were priceless
Does it mean you had the instrumental / vocal stems of this song? If so, how did you get them?
man i like the vocal on this track
can't stop listening to this
Opeth is just awesome, with or without death growls
Heritage is probably my least favorite album, and it's still fucking fantastic. But, I have to say, the best starting albums are probably Damnation, Blackwater Park, and Ghost Reveries.
My personal favorites are My Arms Your Hearse, Still Life, Blackwater Park, but every album they've ever made is a fucking immortal classic.
intro is kinda Deep-Purple-ish
What song? I love the intro.
Guy Pearson Sarude-Dandstorm
CraziDude1 hahaha! Good one
Guy Pearson Uuuh, just a lot of Deep Purple stuff, check out stuff from their Fireball album.
I hear it too.
love the solo in this song, short but sooooo good!
The most amazing song I have ever heard.
this solo dudes...
+osef Its so powerful and desperate
As I read this 5 years later I can still feel what you meant back then. If you re wondering, it’s still feels the same. In my Subaru, blasting it right now.
SAW THEM PLAY THIS LIVE IN MANCHESTER ACADEMY OTHER NIGHT, SO AMAZING!!!
Wow. I absolutely love this. It's the first Opeth song I've heard, and from what I gather from comments here, this is not their typical style. However, they do it so well it's as if they invented this style of metal themselves. I'm looking forward to learning more about this band....
Still my favorite Opeth album, and I loved their early stuff, too.
That part on 5:11 with the strum guitar part reminds me of Spyro the Dragon or something.
Totally
Spyro Ripto’s Rage type beat
How can people listen to solos like the outro (it's Fredrik) and say they wish Peter was in the band still? Just because Peter was on your favorite Opeth albums doesn't mean he's better. Imagine what Fredrik would have done ...
No
Zaret he's right. Yeah, i give you the fact that Peter co-write the entirity of Morningrise, the darkest album by Opeth to this day but Fredrik is just a more complete musician than Peter. Deny it all you want but Peter after Damnation just was a stone in the boot for Opeth, Fredrik open a lot of doors to them.
Mikael Akerfeldt : HI FREDRIK!!!
This pleases me.
got a jazzy feel
OK, I'm getting my first impressions on Opeth to see what the big deal is. I've listened to this song and enjoyed it on it's own merits. Now to see what their extreme stuff is like.
***** By far not their heaviest, Kyle. Try Ghost Reveries
*****
Sorry, I'm not english or american, I didn't know you meant that
Heritage is pretty good, but their heavy albums have some of the most incredible and original music ever created, it really doesn't even compare
***** I agree, Feel wise this kicks the crap out of anything they did previously and makes it seem kind of childish in comparison. great to see they are progressing.
I couldn't of said it better myself : )
Nietzsche's favorite opeth song
Opeth - one of the very few bands with absolute flawless sound live! Mikael Akerfeldt's voice is incredible!
How do they even do it...
I'm a massive Opeth newbie but i think this is great! Shows how talented the band are knowing they can go from death metal style to this and still sound great. Very few musicians can cover genres like Opeth.
This is the only Opeth song I've listened. It's simply fantastic.
Someone can tell me any similar song?
I recommend you the whole Heritage album.
Checked, it's beautiful
Fist song heard here also. I recommend anything from them!! LOL... instant fan
harlequin forest drapery falls
I agree with Yohann, Harlequin Forest (Ghost Reveries) and Drapery Falls (Blackwaterpark), are amazing if you like them. Then proceed into the their respective albums. If its too heavy you can mellow down to Damnation or Watershed, happy listening!
NOOOOOOO STIGMAS REVEALING OUR VICESSSSS, WUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA FUCKING AMAIZING
mikael akerfeldt my favorite part!
i really love the artwork
Beautiful.
I believe in God, but I love this song so much...
I believe in Luke Skywalker and I like this song also.
Isto ali opet "God is dead" u pesmi izgovara djavo, tako da ako mene pitas cisti smo :D
@@keithberns5 Not only did you just copy a comment made by someone else in this exact thread 8 months ago, but this joke is itself one of the oldest and worst atheist jokes in existence.
Come over to our side
Sleeping Dogs! :3
ViolettSchafLP whenever I was on a mission and this song started olaying I'd stay in the car until the song ended
Hell yeah while driving lmao
So great for the weekend.
That guitar solo at the end still gets me
Dude... 5:30 and the rest... DAYUM
You're only a true Opeth fan when you appreciate their new direction ;)
+Liam Nixon You have to appreciate because any way they make music is awesome.
Greatest band ever.
+Liam Nixon You're a fan if you enjoy their music. That's it.
+Liam Nixon I'm one of them but can't understand this whole "all or nothing-fandom"; in a way, who cares about which band it is if it makes music like this?
Opeth really helped me get into technical death metal \w/
Been a fan of there's for like six or so years. They are amazing live! Saw them when they came over to Melbourne in May 2015.
Should be like Devin Townsend and just use growls sparingly, I like their new sound btw
Cant get enough from Opeth.
This made my day
Opeth over Dream Theatre . Still , DT is an amazing prog band
No. Fuck you.
DT is also a band which produced many masterpieces but there are many of their songs which I didn't like, somehow they're not at all like those amazing ones, they're too soft or somehow...irrelevant
To this day, I can't pick one over the other.
Opeth is way better at composition. Dream Theater literally writes albums by just jamming out together. Overall, I think Opeth is the better band.
@@everlastingabundance3633 That's true though... (Both things..)
Dream theater can go home!!!
Each of these bands has it's own beautiful parts
I knoooooowwww right?? 😆
Memorizing song 💯
I feel a strange feeling @ 5:30 . A mild atonement, that climaxes as the outro solo is playing. Makes me feel like a better human being. Thanks Opeth
opeth is so good im not gunna waste listening time by commenting. im above commenting on you tube. never catch me doing it.
caught yoooouuuu
I just started listening to Opeth. This album is entertaining, but honestly it feels like they should have changed the band's name for it, because it sounds so different. It is like Deep Purple, and Yes had a baby.
That's a very honest comment
This band is one of those bands were they put their heart and soul into their music.
yooooo man,.......what a lovely song
I dunno, this sounds closer to old Opeth to me than the new stuff from Sorceress...
It is closer to the old stuff but, in my opinion, I did not like Heritage as much as I liked Pale Communion or Sorceress. I still listen from time to time but idk...
I don't think I'm much of a fan of PC, but I love Heritage and what I've heard from Sorceress so far (haven't gotten around to listening to the whole thing yet). I just think it's interesting to see just how much they've changed. When Heritage came out everybody flipped out because of how different it sounded, but I think it sounds more like what came before than what came after.
wow i kind of like the different sound here in the album. while its not their strongest albums it still way better then anything most of these slipknot fans think is good.
Strongest album by far due to the strong influences of that golden 70's Prog era.
Gotta love that 70's prog. What do you "think" is their strongest album?
johnpeoplefox For me it would haft to be a toss up between deliverance and my arms your hearse.
I like both Opeth and Slipknot, of course Opeth is much more talented than Slipknot but I like both
What is wrong with people like you? Let everyone enjoy what type of music they enjoy and stop complaining about different tastes
Matthew G
whats wrong with people like you as well.
My opinion is based out of experiences from listening to music for years. What gives you the right to say i can not complain about mainstream music or the other? huh?
deal with it.
Love this. They played a Kickass show at the Beaumont Club In KC in Oct
de lo mejor que puede haber, te lo prometo!
...plus why the hell are ppl trying to anylyse the song??? can we not just enjoy it for what it is???
You see..in the metal world their are people that are so grim they only consider "death vocals and corpse paint" as the only viable form of heavy. So they cry about how Opeth progresses while still waiting for Burzum to put out another album.
Andrew West
only ignorant metal heads
while myself, being one from 1983 at least....born in 73.
id still listen to burzum and opeth any day of the week both great pieces of metal...as is all genre's ... listen guys fuck,,,,,, its not justin bieber or kanye eats or jayx fuck its metal its guitars...drums... bass.. screaming marshall stacks fuck ya, bang your head.......fuck whos this metal or that metall just listen and enjoy !!
One of the reasons people enjoy progressive metal is for its lyrical content. Most progressive songs have a story to them. I(among many others) find pleasure in analyzing songs and discovering their meaning. If you mean why are people bitching about the change of style? I would refer you yo what Andrew West so skillfully summarized.
God Will Never Die
This is just unbelievable epic!
This drummer is a beast.
This sucks
***** Was told by a guy with Gabe Newell prof pic. Your point is taken 100%.

Evaluate yourself again. and then type in Akerstache in the youtube search bar and enjoy.
This is fucking old but I found it hilarious that somebody with a Minecraft profile pic commented on a Prog Rock song,
gotta love that jazzy drumming
I'm so glad to see ROADRUNNER carries my two FAVORITE BANDS!!!11!!
Both OPETH and NICKELBACK!
THANK YOU.
Just Amazing
Opeth are among the most interesting band in metal, with every album never failing to impress.
Kyuss vibe with that first riff, love it
Love this album!!!!
oooh, i just found another favorite Opeth song! :D
song is fucking genius
i just cant get enough of it, love the lyrics: "In the corner of my eye, demon fades from the hole" so fucking cool
as an Opeth fan of 5 years back (I'm 19), this album is only a natural evolution of their sound; I LOVE death metal and it's awesome when the play songs such as When and Blackwater Park live, but this album sounds truly like them and it's extremely awesome, we as fans should not be so judgmental about this.
The solo at the end is delicious
hell yeah dude, i just found them about two weeks ago. they've quickly become one of my favorites, sabbath and floyd, with beatles like melodies. do you know of any other bands like bigelf? i havent really found no one up to their standard. somebody told me about opeth, and another band called ghost, so far im pretty happy with them. but like i said, bigelf seems to be in a category all by themselves. there's just something about them fat riffs and that heavy hammond.
Does anyone else just get some kind of magical feeling when listening to this song and the overall album Heritage? I can't compare it to anything, never mind anything Opeth have done before, but this is the case with pretty much every album. But there is just... something... about this album that really grabs me and refreshes me from all the other music around and I feel anew when I hear this and let it flow through me (it literally feels as if it is for me). Mikael Akerfeldt truly is a genius.
Sinister yet fuckin beautiful
Wasn't a fan of this album when I first got it the day it dropped in stores. It's slowly growing on me. As much as I love the "classic" Opeth sound, this material is still awesome. Truly progressive mindset. Love it.
