My guardian 22 KW unit just threw a 2399 code.
So I will be checking the stepper in the morning.

Thank you for watching my video. This week I checked a Guardian generator with the same 2399 code that came up after the owner did maintenance on it. While troubleshooting I found the spark plugs were swapped with the wrong plugs. Instead of the BPR6HS plugs they used the B6HS which has a shorter tip. I’m still wondering how that throws a stepper overload 2399 but once I swapped the spark plugs for the right size the fault never showed up and the generator ran under load without issues.

I have a Generac 22kw and it as a code 1603

Hi, error code 1603 is the underspeed fault. This code appears when the engine never comes up to 3600 rpm. I will recommend checking the fuel selection and fuel supply.

Thank you for your video. I have a Generac Guardian 17 Kw with the Nexus Controller that when I turn it on, the rpm ranges between approximately 3550 and 3650. I look at the output shaft of the stepper motor and small periodic movements are noticed. I'm thinking that the stepper motor is damaged. In 12 years of use of this generator, this is the first time that this failure has occurred. Thanks again

Thank you for you comment! Good question, the stepper motor opens and closes the throttle of the Generac generator. It receives the signal from the control panel to open and close as needed to keep the right air flow to maintain the engine at 3600rpm.
