- In this video, Taylor Mitcham will be showing you a day in the life of a professional drone pilot. She is traveling from one job site to another, as an essential worker, during the covid-19 pandemic.
Unfortunately, she can't take you on an actual job site while doing commercial drone inspection work, but hopefully this behind the scenes footage provides more insight into what it's like as a career drone pilot.

So glad you are back!
Really enjoy your videos, thanks for posting them.
Love the videos. Keep it up
i am jus getting into drones. Thank you for taking the time to post.
Loved it! Great video! Very inspirational video to just do it!
Glad you enjoyed it Parker 🙂 What would you like to see a video about next?
Hey Taylor, I completely love your videos so far. Keep up the good work!
Glad you like them! Anything you'd like to see next?
Like a few others have mentioned, I love your smile as it’s so reassuring to your viewers that all is well and that you truly enjoy what your saying and conveying to us the listeners. I bet you have your thinking cap on as to how else to use your natural built in talent at other money making and creating prospects. Your not the type to limit yourself so maybe some of us who enjoy you so much can help move you forward with other ideas.
Wishing you the best of ongoing success.
Patrick
You put a lot of work in on your videos. Thank you
You're welcome! Anything you'd like to see next?
Great video!!! Thanks for the inspiration.
You're welcome! Anything you'd like to see a video about next?
Loved this video, Girl. First time catching you. Your energy is great, love seeing your big smile. You are so authentic, just a joy to watch, well done, great job. Just earned a sub from Michigan!
Thanks Brandon! Anything you'd like to see a video about in the future?
@@DroneroHQ , I really think there is prohibitive fear over contracts and getting meetings, jobs, gigs. Removing the mystery and lack of knowledge for the process would help multitudes, honestly. We greatly appreciate you!
Great stuff
This is so good! I currently fly for my agency but retire soon, you have shown(and by doing so encouraged) me that I can continue flying and do so professionally
Glad you liked it and thank you for the kind words!
Thanks for sharing Taylor!
You're welcome Wade! Anything you'd like to see a video about next?
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!!
Glad you liked it Lenora :)
Hope you upload more! Love this video
I definitely am! Just been super busy with flying in the field! I'm thinking the next video will be a Q&A with some of the top questions I've been asked. What do you think?
You’re so nice...you go girl...great job:)
Totally inspirational!!!
Thanks! Appreciate you watching a lot of my videos!
Ok Ok, I hit the subscribe button lol. Good stuff so far Miss T!
Ive been watching your videos for years, dreaming of my own business. You have been inspirational and so informative. Finally pulling the trigger after so many reasons. Hope all is well and thanks for the amazing, FREE content. Literally a college course of drone universe.
How are things going??
@@DroneroHQ I have everything setup business wise. Website reserved, email, IRS. Taking a photo/video editing course. Doing the Part 107 self taught is harder than I expected. Trying to stay motivated. Waiting for my TX Dept of State office paperwork. All in all good, thanks.
Are more videos coming? I recently became inspired by the idea of working with drones and traveling. I'm very much in the beginning stages of learning but love the insight you're sharing out here. Thanks!
Yes, just haven't had the time to shoot and edit anything lately.
Looking forward to it, thanks again!
From one Penn Stater to another....Taylor you should be proud of your accomplishments in the UAS industry. Your videos have helped established my drone business. We Are...
PENN STATE!
William, I'm so happy to hear that you've established your business 🙂🙂
Are there any videos you'd like to see in the future that will help you further your business?
@@DroneroHQ Thanks for your reply. I seem to be stalled on the thermal marketing side of my business....have equipment and level 1 thermography certification but can't seem to find the right client, person and/or party to pitch my sale (particular in the areas of solar panel and flat roof inspections). Also, I could use a beginners guide on how to effectively use social media to enhance my exposure to potential clients. Your input would be much appreciated.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing 👌🏼👍
You're welcome :)
Thank you, Taylor, for a wonderful informative video. I hope you are still continuing to be successful in this endeavor! I am having to make some major career choices. Since I have decades of photography/equipment operating experience, I believe this might be a good transition for my age as well (53, less impactful on the body - LOL). Im looking forward to perusing more of your videos to see what my next steps should be to pursue my education and break into this new and growing field. (I especially like the traveling part - since I have nothing holding me back). If you have any suggestions I would truly appreciate them. Again, Best of Luck to you in 2022!
Thank you! Sounds like a good plan. Yes! I'm doing drone stuff full-time and finding success. This field is only growing larger.
@@DroneroHQ I am very happy to hear that, be safe while traveling! God bless
Being real by showing the hotel bag drag. Reminds me of my airline pilot days. :-)
Awesome, exc video. Thank you for sharing. 🌴☀️📸🌋👍🏻
You're welcome :) What would you like to see a video about next?
and you have a beautiful smile by the way!
Hey Taylor !! Great job !!! I use to work in the oil field and lived out of Hotels so I was cracking up when you were showing those videos of the room as to how small and limited some of them are !!! LOL.... WOW YOUR DRONE IS NO JOKE !!! Looking to start with Mapping or something along the line of what you are currently doing.... trying to see what i will be getting into ... QUESTION:..... I watched a prior video where you mentioned about getting licensed to be a surveyor for mapping but can you not provide the service TO the surveyor without needing to be licensed ??? or do you have to wait 4 years to actually do Mapping so you can get your license ?? Thanks AGAIN ... this video brings back memories of hotel living lol
Nice video. I enjoyed it and appreciate the hardwork and effort. Nice b-roll! Lol. I know the trip up to the room took like 5 times longer filming all that.
hahah, yea it did, but with the tires being flat on that luggage cart, it would've taken a long time anyway.
@@DroneroHQ doh! I didnt see the flat.. Your a champ!
@@phoenixoneproductions haha, no worries!
Hi Taylor,
Thank you for your content and contributions. I recently went back to school for industrial maintenance and electrical engineering. I took an elective drone course for “the fun of it. “ and the experience has greatly exceeded my expectations.
I enjoy what I am learning and would like to build an opportunity similar to yours for myself. I will take my part 107 soon. Could you recommend next steps for training and progressing in this field. Travel and being outdoors is very appealing to me. I would welcome the new career. Thank you so much again.
Take care.
Get a drone and fly, fly, fly. If your drone allows, fly in non-gps modes (atti) as much as possible. Whatever niche you wanna go into, start doing that kind of work as much as possible.
So cool to see what’s going on In the industry. Finally started my llc but got no where because of the rona. Now it’s time to gear up and take my light weight dji and find a drone job.
Yea Covid has messed up a lot of stuff, but it will all bounce back for sure. Have you already gotten your 107?
Dronero I passed in February and then Covid came along. I had been reaching out to people to get my name out but nothing so I feel when everything is semi normal I will have to start over networking.
@@renaudfenster yes right now it's tough. People are working weird hours or in some cases, not at all. I wouldn't use this time as an indicator of success or lack there of.
Very interesting video. Thank you for sharing. A few questions: 1: Was that Chevy wagon you're driving a company vehicle (meaning a fringe benefit of working for the company) or your own private vehicle? 2: I assume if you're working for a corporate contractor to capture images of large infrastructure with an uber-fancy drone and controller like that, they likely supplied the equipment. Correct? 3: In your "road warrior" work-travels, do the quality of your accommodations vary as much as the two hotels you showed here? Is that under your control or does the corporate office make the arrangements? 4: I've been following Kat Nesbit, an airline flight attendant, for some time now. She likes to show the hotel rooms she stays at while away from home for work. Obviously the airline has an agreement for arranging the rooms. Does your corporate office give you any other perks while on the road, like free cellular? Thanks again.
That music is so dramatic lol awesome video
I've never flown a drone yet, but I do enjoy your videos. You might want to consider getting a RV :)
I know this was uploaded like a year ago, but like do y'all have any jobs that you're going to need to hire for like next August? I need a change of pace and I like what I see here
I'm just now getting into this, and strongly thinking about trying to actually get a drone and starting the drone journey, so please forgive me for asking a stupid question, but I get why you can't show the client or their location, but why can't you show the sensors and stuff on the dtone? I mean, it's part of the drone itself and doesn't have any baring on the client, or does it?
You certainly have a new subscriber 👍
I'm curious about your inventory checklist and pre-check setup with the drone and remote. Is this mandated by the company you work for, or something you personally implement? Also, do you do the inventory checklist every time you arrive at a new hotel, or after every day on the job? Thanks so much, I am loving your channel.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Inventory check and pre-check is mandated by the company. I do this level of check after arriving to a new hotel .
Wow Taylor, a Alta X??? High Speed...congrats!!! Is that a company asset? Did you receive training on flying that beast? Proud of you!!!
Hahaha, thanks! Yes, I did receive training on flying the aircraft first. It's WAYYYY different than flying DJI for sure.
@@DroneroHQ You go gurl...ust passed my part 107, and awaiting my certificate. Hope to start in real estate and construction. Thanks for the videos...
Good morning, good evening, wherever you may be. Great media! Where do you get you big drone cases, pilot?
Love it!yes hope you can get permission to show us more of the on job footage. Do you work for one main company or multiple? Do you get jobs by word of mouth or hit them up or...? Thanks! Looks like quite a workout 💪
Definitely quite a workout. Right now I work for 1 company but if other work comes in and I can make it work with my schedule...and there's no conflicts, I'll do it.
Work is mostly word of mouth now, but when I was starting out I was "knocking on doors" so to speak.
@@DroneroHQ Taylor, what type of company do you work for???
I just had a wtf look on my face when I watched this. And I thought my Mavic was the thang, you make that look like a paper plane...dang. Why didn’t you get some help with the load. Can’t wait to see the next vid. Great vid Taylor
No one was with me to help with the load, and with Covid-19 happening there's no bellhop services. It's all good though...part of the job I signed up for, lol.
Bigger isn't always better. A mavic can do a lot in small package. For these jobs, I need to fly a 15-ish pound sensor rig, hence why I need the Alta 6...along with all the cases, hahaha.
Glad you enjoyed the video Andre. Anything in particular you'd like to see a video about next?
Thank you Taylor. In terms of video, would like to know what kinds of applications do you use your bird to fly in? Without divulging trade secrets, is the market booming, is it plateauing with the big C or diving downward, are you an independent contractor operating in a specific region or are you full time with a company, do you also fly (no pun intended) to job sites and is this your “day job” or free lance. So many many questions Taylor
@@DroneroHQ We would love to use this video in a free course that is used to inspire young girls around the globe to a career in the aerospace industry. I emailed you directly and also reached out via LinkedIn. I look forward to hearing back from you.
@@thebritts7602 don't see an email or LinkedIn message from you, lol. Shoot me a message on LinkedIn and we can start the convo (Taylor Mitcham).
Like the idea of the video, but i want to know what’s on all the cases. Cause you only showed one. So it’ll be nice to have a video “case tour” or something like that so we can see and understand why so many cases and boxes.
I explained most of what's in the cases in the video. The cardboard boxes are the batteries. 1 case is the drone itself, the Alta 6. The 2nd case is the sensor rig which I'm not allowed to show you. The 3rd case is a spare parts case, which I didn't think would be interesting to show, but now I know you're interested in see what's in the cases.
I can definitely do a video about that soon. 😎
Hi, what's your verdict on the Agras T16?
Would love to touch base with you sometime, very proud and inspired by of what you do, Darryl
Awesome Tan Taylor!! Excellent Job editing video as well! Do you edit your own videos or, sub it out? Which do you recommend? Where can one get pic and video editing training?
I edit the videos myself. I use Davinci Resolve as my editing software. It's free, there's a ton of YT tutorials on how to use it, and it's just as powerful as fcpx and Adobe premiere. Let me go find the tutorial I used to get started.
@@DroneroHQ 1000 Thumbs up for you taking the time to not only reply/share, but go find tutorial. Really appreciate you! as you can see I'm a Noob in this industry. I'm an IT guy that used to race. Nitro powered RC cars as a hobby. Even though i know my way around a radio, I have tons to learn before I can put my drones to work!
Thanks for the great video. Just out of curiosity, what do you not share the sensors you carry?
I can't show the sensors that I'm carrying because they're proprietary and I signed an NDA.
Glad you enjoyed the Video Wasim. What would you like to see a video about next?
@@DroneroHQ thanks for the reply. Fair enough, I understand. I am a UK-based Aerospace Engineer (I supply quadplanes to a distributor), but I would really like to get into drone mapping and drone services in general, which I don't know much about. I would really appreciate it if you could share a video about mapping...
Great video Taylor!
What do you recommend for someone just starting out as far a business wise and equipment setup?
Depends on the verticals you're going to be doing into. If I had to pick without knowing you or what you're doing, I'd go for a DJI P4P.
Dronero ok cool thanks. Going to be targeting commercial and residential real estate to begin with
Why the Alta 6, and why couldn't you show us the sensors?
Love your videos. But why are you having to unload your things from the car? Shouldn't the hotel be doing that for you?
1-covid...but also 2, the majority of hotels don't have bellhops.
Taylor, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I'm a woman in the trades and a UAV/UAS hobbyist, your videos have inspired and motivated me to learn and do more.
You have a talent and professionalism that I admire.
Please keep the content coming and stay safe out there, friend.
Thanks Angela! :) Anything you'd like to see next?
@@DroneroHQ I'll come up with a few things, thank you.
@@DroneroHQ Hey Taylor, me again... can you talk about FLIR or thermal imaging. Also, insuring your drones, pros- cons, different ways to insure.
Thanks!
Hey. This is the second one of your videos that I've watched today. I know this is an older video but I hope you answer! So, I've been studying for my 107 and I know I'm ready, so I'm about to test. My question is... how did you get the job in the industry? You have my dream job and I really want to get into the space. Please let me know some ideas of how I can get into the same job that you have. I only have a mini 2 right now and I do cinematic style videos but there's really not much money in that. I've just been doing videos of the family. Please let me know. I hope you read this.
Do you have to assemble/disassemble the Alta at each location?
Unfortunately yes...In order to fit into the case it has to be disassembled.
Damn Corona got those Bell hops outta business.
WAS wondering why you couldn't show sensors, are they proprietary or is they govment secrets =:)
They're proprietary...I signed an NDA so until I get explicit permission, that 2nd case will stay closed to the camera.
You need a converted sprinter style van that you can haul your gear and live on the road out of.
I don't necessarily want to live on the road, hahaha, but the sprinter-type van is in the works...but will come wayyyyy later down the road.
Found you via your mom on cruise today!!! Ahoy! Subbed bell
Haha...which cruise? She goes on so many I can't keep up sometimes.
Thanks for subscribing!
@@DroneroHQ She's on the Scarlet Lady out of Miami. We left yesterday😁
@@BubblesByYoli ooo cool! Well y'all have fun!!
Hey do you know of a reputable frone jobbing company that teaches drone mapping and real estate? Thanks!
Honestly, you can learn most of that (especially real estate) from UA-cam. There are some courses I know of that are in-person. UAV coach is also a good one if you want something online.
Is that Alta your …18000 plus. Wow that’s expensive
Enjoyed the video, look forward to more. But, and there's always a but right? The music was WAY too loud. the difference between your talking and the music was HUGE. But, keep the videos coming.
Yea I'm not the best at editing vlogs...still working on it. Probably won't do these types of videos too often. I'm much better at the sit down types, lol.
What would you like to see a video about next?
@@DroneroHQ I get that. Thanks for stepping outside of your comfort zone though. Your videos are some of the first ones that I found that really got me fired up to get my 107 and have a go at this.
i guess hotels don't have bellhops anymore!
hahaha, nope!
Taylor if you are ever in the DFW area let me know. Perhaps I can shadow you since I'm just starting out in the aerial drone business.
Will definitely let you know for sure :). I know I'll get down to Texas eventually. Idk if I can bring you on a job, but could def make time to sit down and talk, if that works.
@@DroneroHQ That would be outstanding!!!!!!
Why can't you show us the sensors though?
I signed an NDA
what is all that stuff?
ok never mind i see what it is now lol...
Video starts at 7:30 :)
hahaha, I guess that is when the good stuff starts.
Sayn Taylor if you need a roadie let me know, I work for free LOL but just houler!!!
Will do :) haha. Where are you based out of?
Are you using sunscreen?
Yes I am. The sunglass tan is from wearing safety glasses onsite though. Not much someone can do about that when they're mandatory. Eventually I'll get back to FL and even it out, hahaha.
How do you get those jobs?
Hardwork, experience, and good references for this stuff. But I can do a video on ways to get drone work if you're interested. Let me know :)
@@DroneroHQ Definitely do a video on growing the business. We have one starting Saturday for OSU here in Oklahoma. Should take us about a year and half to complete.
