Welcome back to everything valves. The channel dedicated to bringing you everything valves. I appreciate everyone who is subscribed and supporting the channel. If you like today's video please make sure you drop a like and hit the subscribe button.
In this video I will show you how to apply grease to stem packing area on a floating ball valve. When to apply grease can be a tricky topic depending on who you ask. I have always found that it is best to only apply grease to the stem packing area only when there is a leak. Applying grease prematurely can sometimes lead to unexpected problems. For example the stem orings can become covered with the grease and begin to let medium pass through. Or the grease can become hard locking up stem and much more.
The best practice is to follow the manufacturers recommendations or if the valve is working properly do not apply grease. This video will show you how the grease travels through the stem and into the grease channel located on the outside of the stem.
I hope this video was helpful. Grease can be a tricky topic so I wanted to give you a basic overview on how to apply the grease. Trunnion ball valves use a different grease system for different components. This floating ball valve only has the option of greasing the stem packing area.

What are the best types of grease used in the portal and ball valve? We also suffer from the ball valve because of the difficulty of movement, in addition to the fact that the ball is made of style, please answer you. And an excellent explanation, thanks for the information

Does this just stop gas coming out the top of the valve ? I don’t see how it can help sealing? We have valves in the field which don’t seal and we can’t grease

The grease is for emergency situations. If the valve is leaking past the stem. You pump grease to try and prevent more from running out. The valve will need to be replaced or repaired for sure. The grease can stop both gas and fluid but is not a permanent fix. Thank you for the comment.

could you do a video explaining check valves and maybe a few different types? i've seen videos on check valves but there are so many types and some of them are so different. I struggle to understand the difference between NRV check valves and regular check valves, or are they the same??? great work on the channel so far btw

That is a good idea. There are different types of check valves and it can get confusing. You have swing type, lift type, ball checks and more. I will work to bring another check valve video in the near future. Thanks for watching.

Don't you have to use a synthetic grease since petroleum grease will probably swell and degrade those O rings?

That’s a really good point and hard to answer with just a yes or no. Petroleum based grease I don’t think would degrade the orings depending on what grade they are. There are many different grades of grease to choice from. The type you use really depends on the medium running through the valve. That is a whole other topic. Really wish I could have been more help. Thanks for the comment
