Vol 3 was my first ever Slipknot album so I admit I have nostalgia for it, but I also listen to it as regularly as I do Iowa. Three Nil and Welcome are constant gym bangers for me.
Yeah even with nostalgia glasses off I think that's a fantastic album.
One of the best albums ever
Honestly a lot of people can disagree, but Blister Exists is my favorite Slipknot song. The first to ever implement that marching band style drumming that we heard in Psychosocial, All Out Life and Nero Forte. I just love everything about it.
I hopped on the train with Psychosocial back in like 2014, but Vol. 3 has always been my fav. Debut comes second for me, I think both are masterful records in their own right
My first album too
Killpop isn't that bad if you keep in mind it's not about romantic relationships but about music industry. Really changed things for me
That almost makes it cornier imo. Honestly what a song is about has no baring on whether the music is good if you ask me. But opinions are opinions
@@MetalTrenches Heretic Anthem is also about the music industry. It’s all kinda corny to be honest. But that’s what makes Slipknot fun 🤷
I personally love killpop, but to each their own
i hate killpop
@@MetalTrenches Killpop and unsainted are masterpieces. It's definitely not 'cringe' bro. What I noticed is that you only like songs that sound like other songs you've listened to (from other album, bands or artists). Like just listen to those songs you hate as they are and you'll probably enjoy them more
Corey said that he wanted Snuff to be a Slipknot song, to show that the heaviest songs aren’t always the heaviest
Plus he also said he wanted it to be in stone sour but when he pitched this song to the members of slipknot he got surprised that they said it should be included in a slipknot album
Corny
vol 3 was one of the albums that got me into music. I still think to this day that it is a masterpiece of an album. Infact I just bought it a second time on vinyl nearly 20 years later. Vermilion parts one and two still give me the chills, circle is sooo beautiful and haunting, the nameless is one of their best songs, three nill and pulse of the maggots are crushing and fantastic. The singles are legendary. Very inspired album
the whole thing, I think its sic(k)
That is probably their worst album. And that’s saying a lot cause AHIG is pretty bad also
I agree, I have no real nostalgia factor with this one as I listened to it after being introduced to Iowa and self titled and to me it’s still thr album with the highest level of creativity and musicality
Man Vermilion for me is like one of the best songs they have EVER written but opinions can differ.
Vermillion is a real good song
He has a really stupid point of view to judge by it.
@@eldrips4974 What’s stupid about his opinion?
@@AndI0td763I'm talking about the guy in the video
Of all the slipknot songs..picking vermillion as a favorite is beyond a wildly cringe opinion. Unless your a female I guess.
LMAO Disagree with your subliminal verses take but the "You need to leave!" meme had me in stitches
1. Iowa
2. Slipknot
3. We are not your kind
4. The end so far
5. Vol. 3
6. All hope is gone
7. The grey chapter
The grey chapter is forever underrated. The bonus tracks the burden and override always get overlooked, ps I think kill pop is an amazing song and the music video is really creative and tells a story in its own way.
Gray*
.5 is dog shit
Yeah I like the gray chapter way better than all hope is gone
Gray Chapter is good. But it is not good enough compare to their others album for me.
Their first album and Iowa are my favorites but man some of my favorite songs come from the gray chapter. Sarcastrophe, Custer, and especially the Negative One are such bangers
love the beginning of sarcastrophe especially...its like 90s grunge... love itttttt
The Burden is the best Track in this album imo
Devil in i sitting in the corner crying rn cuz of u guys lol
Ehh kinda predictable 😊
The obnoxious cartoon billygoat screaming in Custer makes it objectively annoying and F tier, along with that whole album. K, bye.
My experience with Slipknot is a very recent one, maybe a year and a half ago. I got gifted tickets for a Knotfest concert in October 2021 and I didn't know any songs from them outside of Duality and Psychosocial. I started listening on their newest album at the time then went backwards. Unpopular opinion on one album but my two favorite albums are the Self-Titled and the Grey Chapter. Songs like The Burden and Override are amazing to me and the other album, Scissors and Prosthetics, are some of the most haunting and heavy sons I've ever heard. They also have insane concerts with loads of lights and interaction from the crowd. Slipknot quickly became my favorite band ever and the new album I love so much. Hope everyone is loving the album, rock on 🎸
So many people HATE the override lol I don't mind it actually. I like the burden a lot.
i will never understand Knot fans (maggots) hatred for grey chapter... i adore their debut album it gives me insane energy... and grey chapter has major variety and the beginning of the album is gorgeous with XIX then the intro to the first song that soft grungey guitar in SARCASTROPHE it makes me feel like i am time traveling to the 90s to the early or mid 90s when grunge was popular. Some of my fav ever slipknot songs are on grey chapter.. the only album i did not connect with (and this is the most popular with the fans/maggots is ALL HOPE UIS GONE...i just did not connect on any level with it...it was too generic and almost mainstream... psychosocial is a killer track though. (just a random thought: chester bennington was in a band called grey daze and its great stuff...its early 90s grunge when he was like 17 and recently they re-did the album and i hated the re-done versions.. like a remix from hell, except for maybe a couple songs were better than original.. but i like the sad depressing raw grunge originals... which is why i like sarcastrophe even though the entire song isn't like that but i love it.. i miss that sound from the mid 90s grunge era... fav songs on that album NO SUN TODAY if u ever wanna check it out: SHE SHINES (ORIGINAL, ALBUM WAKE ME) 1994, JUST LIKE HEROIN (THE REMIX), B-12 (THE REMIX VERSION TO ME BETTER THAN ORIGINAL BUT ORIGINAL IS AWESOME TOO THE REMIXES IS AN ALBUM CALLED AMENDS ON GREY DAZE CHANNEL, DRAG, AND THE DOWN SYNDROME-ORIGINAL, )
Scissors and prosthetics are absolute bangers
As someone who was introduced during the Gray Chapter, The Devil In I has consistently been my all time favorite song as well as my most listened out of any Slipknot song in my library.
I think the variety in dynamic in Devil in I pins it as one of the most unique and memorable in their discography. I personally don’t think it’s cringey at all, but to each their own
It’s one of my favorites from them, a phenomenal song. The bass line and guitar are 10/10
Man puts it lower bc of Paul gray.
I dont like it bc Corey's voice during the chorus sounds so hoarse... and he doesnt ever finish saying the "step inside" line. He just says "step insie!"
@@G59forlife. w..t...f🤣🤣🤣🤣
the LIVE version of it is phenomenal..the one with the red light background..its from 2014 i think...the quality is insane and better than studio version
Great ranking video. I'm not a big Slipknot fan but I'll give this new album a spin for sure. Keep up the great work
I originally started listening to Slipknot around 2019-2020 completely oblivious of WANYK. (I was raised with Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit, or literally any other alt metal or nu-metal band) I loved every album and then I took a deep dive into every song and they are now 100% my favorite band. TESF is a complete banger in my opinion, can’t wait for my CD and shirts to arrive.
Heavily disagree on vermilion.
My experience with Slipknot, and also for me as a metalhead started with Unsainted (even if I actually started listening to some Trivium but I didn't enjoy them that much). While waiting for the full album release I listened to every single piece of the discography and that was all that I listened in summer 2019. Your ranking is quite good in my opinion, but Volume 3 and 5 are much better than All Hope Is Gone for me, but maybe it's just because I'm tired of listening to those tracks. I still need to listen to the new one but I hope that how you presented it makes it click for me as well
The End, So Far is pretty damn good. It's growing on me with each listen. The only Slipknot album I don't like much is All Hope Is Gone.
S: Iowa, Slipknot, Vol. 3-The Subliminal Verses
A: We Are Not Your Kind, The End So Far
B: .5: The Gray Chapter
C: All Hope Is Gone
My favorite slipknot album is the subliminal verses. Probably not their best. But I like almost all of it
Papa trenches on point,as usual. 🤘🏼
As yet, I haven’t listen to the new one from start to finish. I’m actually looking forward to it after hearing this. Heavy you say? Sweet 🖤
There are few good songs on there but to me as a whole the album screams "let's just quickly slap this together so we can the fuck away from roadrunner"
Grey chapter was my first slipknot album back when i was 16. listening to it now it isnt as good as i remember it, but the first 3 albums absolutely slap for me.
Ikr it’s more heavier
🤣🤣🤣
"All Hope Is Gone" is a great underrated album, just sayin.
4:10
Ah yes, the perfect songs to show your love. about stalking and killing a girl, and your schizofrenia telling you she doesn't exist. Such a hot topic teenage romance song.
Yeahhhhh, it's really the same lyrical vibe from Self-titled. That take felt kinda out-of-pocket.
Doesn't effect the fact that it's a cringe song and one of the worst songs they've ever wrote
@@nemesis8626
Yup, definetly up there with disasterpiece.
Master Knife I must have really gotten under your skin lol. Take a step back and consider how replying to all of these comments makes you look. It’s an opinion, and they’re a dime a dozen. Don’t take it so personally
The one that kills the least is super underrated from .5 once that solo starts and that drum beat comes in it goes so hard
Nice video, believe it or not but Yen is actually my favorite Slipknot song right now. Likely it’s because I’ve always enjoyed clean vocals more and Yen when it was released as a single made me realize that Slipknot has more variety than I thought. Months later and I have completed the discography including the new album and I have grown to appreciate the harsher, heavier style even more now (Iowa is great) but I still love the mix of clean and brutal the best. So probably a hot take, but I love Yen and I can thank it for starting my discovery of Slipknot
welcome to the maggot gang fr
Only a hot take to those dorks that think Slipknot can only be Iowa. They're a great band with some solid albums and a (few?) Classics.
Gematria is one of my favourite Slipknot songs.
I think it is Slipknot’s best song.
S - Slipknot, Iowa, W.A.N.Y.K
A - Volume 3, All Hope Is Gone
B - The Gray Chapter, The End So Far
Good stuff man. Slipknot was a good gateway band into heavier metal for me, but I've moved beyond them. Maybe I'll give it a listen. Slipknot definitely has a lot of good hooks in their songs, so I'll give them that. The live version of People=shit used to be one of my main gym songs back in the day.
I respect your opinion but Vermilion is not a love song, at least not traditionally, it’s from the perspective of a stalker.
Stalkers are cringe
What Matt said lol
It’s not even that, it’s the stalker being used as a metaphor for an addict and ‘she’ is the drugs that this addict uses. Corey interprets it as about a stalker but Paul wrote it and said it’s about his struggles with drug addiction.
@@Xeroforte Well, you do got a point.
I think solway firth is the best slipknot song ever. To me wanyk and the end so far are both S tier for me. I love the albums back to front
Gotta say they were one of the bands that got me into metal as a kid, Otep being the other. When Iowa came out, I was absolutely obsessed.
S: Iowa
A: Self Titled
B: WANYK
C: Vol 3, All Hope is Gone
D: The Grey Chapter, The end so far.
Conan is the 🐐
I think THE SUBLIMINAL VERSES IS FLAWLESS.
It’s their best one by far. I honestly couldn’t tell you what the songs names are because it plays as one long song to me in my mind and I’ve owned it since it came out.
All Hope Is Gone is the first Metal album I’ve ever bought with my own money.
Cool vid Trenches. Funnily enough, I think I’d called the new album their least heavy one so far, I really like it though. Also, about what you said of the album lengths, I think you’ve been listening to the special editions of All Hope Is Gone and The Gray Chapter because Child of Burning Time is a bonus track and The Gray Chapter is only 75 minutes with the bonus tracks. Also, hot take: The Gray Chapter is an A tier album.
Good list.
I feel like this is the first time I've heard you mention Type O Negative ever, and would genuinely love to hear your thoughts or a ranking on those guys. 👍
1. Vol.3
2. Self Titled
3. Iowa
4. All Hope is Gone
5. Grey Chapter
6. We are not your kind
7. The end, So far
Same.
Your list is an abomination.
Other than me being WAYYY higher than you on Vol.3 (I STILL put it just below Iowa, but above their debut), great list. They too were my first dive into more aggressive metal. I listened to Korn & Limp Bizkit & deftones in high school, but that was it (I was much more an industrial/grunge kid). Slipknot was chaotic noise for this newbie and I fell in love with metal. Early 2000 was when I found the self-titled, and was hooked. Vol.3 kicks ass in it's own way, but i suppose as divided as people seem to be on it, it simply works for me much more than others.
The production on Iowa..in my opinion..is the greatest thing ever. I’m not sure what it is to be honest. Its so bassy. Just soooo much bass. Dark dark atmosphere. As someone who was there from the start, I go back and fourth with the first two being my favorite slipknot albums. And can agree when vol 3 came out I was beyond let down. When I was in high school, I think I watched the disasterpieces dvd over 500 times. No joke.
Thank you for the topic, I love talking about this. Slipknot still is and has been my favorite band since 1999. I am open minded and don’t mind a band trying something different, I just didn’t find The End So Far album enjoyable. It just didn’t feel like the band was that into it. To me, Yen probably was the closest to their sound and was a really good song. I think Corey had his heart more in the non traditional Slipknot songs and the other songs seemed like, hey guys, we’re Slipknot, we need to make some Slipknot songs too. The singles weren’t bad but they didn’t quite get there for me, I talk more about this on my channel but still have nothing but respect for this band!🙌 This band has helped me through many periods throughout my life. Slipknot are still my favorite band and I have absolute faith their next album will be great. It’s just my opinion but am glad some enjoy it and understand why others don’t. I’m very excited to see what they come up with post roadrunner🔥
When this album (first one) came out we had a party at my parents and put it on all night. When came down in my morning my gran put cd player on and the first “song “ played for ages until she said “this isn’t my Roy Orbison cd”
Also, the new album is very good. It isn’t their best record, but it’s in the better half of their catalogue imo
It sounds boring
@@philipp_7 Other than a couple of bangers, it's basically another Stone Sour album.
I don’t know how people are saying it’s boring personally.
@@philipp_7 this isn’t The Gray Chapter

S: Iowa
A: Slipknot, We Are Not Your Kind
B: Vol. 3, The End So Far
C: The Gray Chapter, All Hope is Gone
8. All hope is gone
7. MFKR
6. End so far
5. Vol 3
4. .5
3. We are not your kind
2. Self titled
1. Iowa
IMO of course
7.) All Hope is Gone
6.) Gray Chapter
5.) Iowa (yes I know)
4.) Slipknot
3.) The End so Far
2.) Vol. 3
1.) We Are Not Your Kind
I have only been listening to Slipknot for about 4 years so I don’t really have much nostalgia for this band that a lot of fans have so I completely get if me putting Iowa and Self title lower on the list is seen as a cardinal sin. They are not bad albums by any means, I just don’t like how all of their other content is compared to them and expected to be on the same level as heavy by a lot of hardcore fans.
Not very hyped to hear the album tbh, I found all singles painfully average. But hey, that's just me, I'm just generally grew out of Slipknot and even their "best stuff" not doing much for me
I’m basically in the same boat.
Its mediocre at best
I didn’t listen to them until 2015 and the only song off of .5 The Gray Chapter was The Devil In I. I started getting into their big hits and Vol 3. Vol 3 and Self Titled were the first albums I listened to and absolutely loved
I saw a lot of people saying the new one is their worst, and having now listened to it I have to say all those people are on crack. Easily their best album since at least 2008.
Based
Vol 3 is fire
I’ve been a fan since the debut. The music video for the devil and I freaked me out a little bit. I don’t get shook up by much of anything anymore but damn. That shook me to the core for some reason.
You have become my favorite review channel. You are fair even when discussing songs and albums you dont like.
On topic, i have thought All hope is gone is a great record for some time and its nice thwt i am not the only one.
Thanks so much. That's a balance I REALLY work hard at.
Haven’t listened to the new album, only singles but they sound promising. Agree with most of your ranking except I would put gray chapter in the high B category. I know I’m in the minority but the album felt the most inspired and passionate effort since the early days because of the grief and despair they going through after losing Paul.
Yeah the fact that the whole album is a tribute to Paul makes it more special than other albums. You can feel the sadness and darkness in the lyrics and music
I love The Gray Chapter. The hate it gets is baffling. But let’s be honest, even a “mid” Slipknot album is mostly better than most of the heavy music that comes out these days.
I really dig The End, So Far. I think it has a really good flow and I really enjoy the more experimental moments.
Putting Vol.3 in C tier is an absolute BLASFEMY. Thats a perfect album.
Gonna have to agree to strongly disagree on that one. Metal is all ABOUT blasphemy.
Ooooo trenches liked the new one? That makes me feel good man, I respect your opinions a lot and I find some amount of pride in knowing we share similar views
Let me know what you think of it.
@@MetalTrenches I just finished my 3rd listen, first spin of the vinyl (kind of shocked to realize it spins at 45)
I agree with your placement and the points you made about it, there’s elements of the old school mixed in with the modern. I saw a post Michael Pfaff made earlier on his Instagram of his synth patch for adderall, gave me an extra appreciation for the track. I think it might be off the look outside your window recordings, if it is that’s a cool way to put joeys spirit on this record. The musicianship is next level, and as a whole I think it is very strong, definitely a solid b+/A- even more so considering the circumstances in which they said they recorded it
Purity alone puts slipknot in S tier
im a big fan of Slipknot, i say, self-titled and iowa are one of the best things in the entire metal world. My fav tracks: Disasterpiece, People=Shit, The Heretic Anthem, Purity, Me inside, Eyeless, Scissors,
couldn't agree more about the perfection of 1999 Self titled. Appreciate you showing it love
I don't understand why everyone hates on All Hope is Gone (ik you didn't but I've noticed a lot of people do). Best album by them imo
I don't think it's cringe to say that Slipknot's debut got you into metal. If you grew up in that era like us, 90% got into metal through nu metal. Just the way it is.
Self-Titled, Iowa, Vol. 3- I enjoy from start to finish.
All hope is gone- I want to like it, but the vocals are cringy for me. Sulfur, Dead Memories, This Cold Black, and Snuff I could go back to.
Grey Chapter- I can't get into the first couple of songs, but then the album does pick up for me the further it progresses.
We Are Not- the energy in the band is finally back, but I do tend to skip a handful of tracks on here.
I don't think I will love the new album.
Great review. Totally agree with all your opinions 🤘
I saw Slipknot on the Gray Chapter/Summer's Last Stand tour in 2015 in Vancouver with Lamb of God [who are dropping a new album next week and I'll be seeing on October 9th], Bullet for My Valentine and Motionless in White!
The new album is great, it's my kind of flavour and it's more engaging than the previous one.
Previous one had moments of boredom, I remember skipping songs because of that. The new album delivers juice and I was looking forward for every song.
edit:
Some intros and atmospheric moments are to much for me, I could cut them out
I'm with you metaltrenches...after the first 2 albums were my all time favourites and listening to vol 3 the first time I was so dad dissapointed with the production and song structure.
100%
Honestly my ranking would be:
*S tier:* Iowa
*A tier:* Vol 3, WANYK
*B tier:* self titled
*C tier:* TESF, AHIG
*D tier:* The Gray Chapter
I respect your ranking being mine would be quiet similar except the grey chapter that would be A to B range reason being is it shows all the emotions of the band with everything they were going through at the time. Just the raw emotion in the music that I could feel when listening makes it one of their better albums in my opinion
Good ranking
But AHIG isn't really that long, you're just counting the bonus tracks for some reason. Same with Gray Chapter, though that one would still benefit from not being over an hour long.
Also, the new album is really good. Don't love it as much as WANYK, mostly because of the lyrics and how they resonated for me during a tough time. TESF just sounds like WANYK B sides that weren't written enough. They wanted to go more experimental but only a couple songs experiment with anything beyond a more electronic Alice In Chains. I'm not opposed to that, though. I just figured we'd get more Danger Keep Away/Spiders kinda songs. The heavier songs are just autopilot Slipknot.
The only gripe I have with Vol. 3 is the production. Rick Rubin was definitely not on his game back when he recorded this one. And according to the band, he was hardly ever present in studio.
Love the ranking, highly agree on your list 🤘🤘🤘
Slipknot's self titled was my introduction to metal as a 13 year old. That and Iowa will always be special to me
Iowa is a masterpiece and my favorite album of all time imo
Yeah man it's pretty awesome have you ever heard of the American Head charge they went out on tour with slipknot in 2001
Listened to the new album literally a minute after it got available at Midnight, definitely a solid album.
I’m glad Slipknot is still trying and experimenting new stuff (Was caught off guard by Adderall) and it’s a good final album with Roadrunner Records. Not Better than Iowa, The Self Titled album and WANYK for me but it is still good Slipknot!
🤘🏻
Totally agree - WANYK is miles better imo.
New album rocks
New album SLAPPED
New album is very boring
Awesome video bro
See ya in the trenches bro
I got your six
I have their first 3 albums as S tier, WANYK goes A, AHIG is a B, .5 and TESF a solid C
Man I gotta admit...the way you were ranking everything after IOWA, and listing your reasons, I thought for sure you were gonna HATE the end so far. Weird.
I’m full of surprises
Heavily DISAGREE about the ranking of the new album. It’s just not good. There are a few decent songs, but it’s not cohesive, The tracks feel like demos some of them feel unfinished. Even Jim said he feels it’s not that good of a record & they could have done better. Besides their first two albums which are classics, WANYK is their best album , that was miles above the brand new album they just dropped
🤷🏻♂️
I got the same feeling. It feels like a bunch of B-Sides, tbh.
They released two best songs from the album as a singles ( Dying Song, Chapeltown Rag) the rest varies from medicore to bad, with some decent songs here and there.
100% agree with you man. I take zero pleasure in not liking this album. I’ve tried to suspend disbelief approximately 6-7 times but it’s just not very good. Here’s to the next album on a new label that gets recorded with actual maximum potential in place.
Yeah this one should've stayed on the cutting room floor
THANK YOU! I'm not alone here! I had exact that same feeling when Vol 3 dropped and I remember myself struggling to enjoy it. When I heard "The Blister Exists" with that drums work I thought: "Wow, it's gonna be a great album!" But after that track I felt it was a downhill till the last track. Sadly I never got into the band as I was back in Iowa era. 😕
1. Vol 3
2. We are not your kind
3. All hope is gone
4. Iowa
5. Slipknot
6. Gray chapter
7. The end so far
Just got done listening to the new album, acidic, man v-man tore the bass up on that song. Favorite from the album.
I could get behind Iowa being one of the heaviest of all time, but not Self Titled. It’s just too wacky overall to be one of the heaviest imo. I got into Slipknot in 2013-2014, and was an absolute die hard fan up until recently when my tastes shifted a bit. But Iowa will still always be a top 5 for me. Anything after that, currently, I don’t listen to anymore
I wanted to wait to post this for giving their newest album time to marinade with me so here's how I'd do it:
S: Iowa
A: The End So Far
B: WANYK, Slipknot, .5 The Gray Chapter
C: Vol. 3
D: All Hope is Gone
This was a gateway band for me to get into heavier music. I remember in high school hearing Devil in I for the first time and it blew my mind. Iowa as an album was the first introduction to double bass, blast beats, and anything death metal related. I think every album has at least something great to offer but not everything is a hit. I still love Slipknot.
Even my brother who likes country music more than metal, says the dying song is one of his favorite songs.
Honestly I love vermilion but I can see why it can feel cringe for some people. To me it felt like something I hadn’t heard from Slipknot before and I really appreciated that it’s about Paul’s drug addiction while utilising less explicitly laid out meaning and a sound that I found pretty atmospheric. What annoys me is the fact that they use the exact same metaphor every time they want to do a ‘sinister and abstract’ song by writing lyrics that are a romantic sounding description of a relationship between the speaker and a woman but *surprise* it’s actually about something else which probably isn’t even interpretable in the lyrics without clarification (yen and killpop are good examples).
So while I think vermilion is great for the newness of the band going for that sound, new emotional levels that seem more about desperation than romance to me and the heavily related lyrical obscurity compared to their other work at the time. The problem which i have in regards to the song is that it’s been hard for me to listen to it without thinking about those other songs that seem to have lazy lyrics and feel like they took all the cringe that some people feel about vermilion (which I assume is because of the way it can come across like angst driven love poetry) and threw it into songs with barely any real substance to it because of the lack of an organic writing process.
Sorry guys I know that was uncalled for but I started writing about how I understand what makes people dislike vermilion and I just went off on a bit of a rant.
1. IOWA
2. Vol 3. The Subliminal Verses
3. Slipknot
4. All Hope Is Gone
5. The Gray Chapter
6. We Are Not Your Kind
7. The End So Far
Agree with 1-3, but the rest of your list……fucking yikes dude.
I’d go:
1. We Are Not Your Kind
2. Iowa
3. Vol.3
4. Slipknot
5. The Gray Chapter
6. The End so Far
7. All Hope is Gone
The debut is probably one of my favorite albums of the Nu metal genre and tbh got me into more angrier music, which is nice
Warm greetings to all ye Maggots!!! Much respect for this channel and the idea of Tier ranking is far more reasonable to me than Top 10 rankings, which hardly ever can be accurate and just.
I am gratefull and happy to share my personal Tier ranking with other fans :D

- Iowa - The most of Maggots helped to convince me it is undoubtedly the best album. Can agree Iowa is the top achievement of Slipknot. The album is raw, hard as can be and kicks a hole in the sky! It lacks nothing and Gently is the perfect counterbalance for the rest banger heavier songs.
- Vol.3 - The melancholic mood makes this one my favourite. I am completely finding myself in the both Vermilion songs especially, and the album intro makes the sadness of life feel great at last. The Vol.3 sound is more mild than Iowa, but for me it doesn't spoil a thing.
- All Hope Is Gone - Can be difficult to cope with this album at first hand but the more years have passed
I surely catch myself at listening to it again and again for the masterpiece compositions, sound and band's power. The album has both heavy as Iowa moments and the more fragile pieces like Snuff or Dead Memories combined into perfection.
A:
- Slipknot - The whole album is just the extatic moment of the new band revelation. There is nothing to complain about it. You can listen to it with one breath and it really sticks well together, altough the members of the band still kind of search for their sound at this stage imo. So its youthfull energy is the most present here and stands as the main atitude of the self-titled. Still without Korn influence, it is hard to believe the Slipknot would be the band we know today.
- We Are Not Your Kind - After the depression of .5 I was amazed to hear that Slipknot rocks again! This album is like a miracle ressurection. I started to like the new way of Corey's vocals with this one. Should be the final album and after that the band could rest in peace, leaving at the top of their fortitude again.
B:
- .5 Gray Chapter - I was disappointed with this album, because the gap between this one and the previous albums is obvious. They lost much energy after bidding farewell to their dear brother Paul. However, I listened to the .5 recently and I really enjoyed it. Some songs are really great, and if we would not compare this album to the other ones it trully deserves applause. Decent job!
C:
- The End, So Far - The half of album is really good, the other half sounds like it was just produced mechanically for commercial aims just to sell it. The only song I truly liked was Hive Mind. I am happy that most of you enjoyed this one and hope you dont mind I have my own opinion. Sometimes you just feel in this way and for me this album is clearly weaker than all the previous albums of Slipknot. The band members also slip away from the line up, so its not a good idea to continue career without the original spirit.
Finaly:
I'm just another person whom Slipknot really helped to survive the teenage and early adult years of life in school and the society which both are full of negativity. Love for this band! It's so difficult to judge such great musicians and other fans opinion, since Slipknot very likely has a lot of diversity between their songs and albums.
First two absolutely s tier. Although I prefer Iowa to their self-titled because there was so much raw emotion and it got me through some very tough times growing up. Volume 3 I'd give an A tier because even though it took a more melodic spin from the first two, it still carried that melancholic slipknot feel especially with songs like prelude 3.0 and danger keep away. I also really liked the virus of life due to its dark and sinister sounding scissors vibe. I agree with WANYK and AHIG being b tier, because it wasn't their best work, but they still had lots of replayability and catchy tunes. I really can't say I enjoyed .5 very much because it felt cartoonish and overly mainstream. The Devil in I still makes me feel cringe when I hear it. Nomadic was good, but that was really the only track I could stomach enough to listen to more than a couple times. And the new album is just bland in my opinion. Warranty and Acidic kind of caught my eye and I actually didn't mind Yen as it gave me volume 3 vibes, but otherwise the 'bangers' everyone seems to dig just don't give me that heart racing fuck yeah feeling inside like many of their previous tracks used to. Excellent review though 👏 everyone has their own nuanced tastes in Slipknot and it's nice to see they're still entertaining the community after all of these years.
Thanks for sharing \m/
I actually really dig The Gray Chapter. Actually might be my favorite aside from Iowa, call me crazy cuz I just might be.
1. Iowa/Gray Chapter
2. S/T
3. AHIG
4. TESF
5. Vol 3
6. WANYK
I wholly agree with your rankings. I had the privilege of seeing them right before their first album was released and twice right after it came out so to me the small, crowded stage of 8 guys banging into each other and playing songs like surfacing and purity is what slipknot is all about. Iowa was really good but everything fell off after that. The massive stages and elaborate setups and stage designs they have now are cool but the magic of seeing the absolute chaos of 8 guys on small stages in front of club sized crowds was something nobody had ever experienced before and probably never will again. I still have a sheet of paper somewhere that I got all 8 original guys to sign back in ‘99. Sad to know a couple of them aren’t with us anymore.
I would've switched the rankings of The End So Far and All Hope Is Gone, but overall, it is a solid rating.
I honestly really did not enjoy this new album but glad you did. Maybe I’ll have to give it a relisten or two
I had to pause the video at your rating of Vol. 3. It's kinda hard for me to judge it since there is so much nostalgia involved. I still feel it's a banger tho. It's also the last one that gives me the vibe of the original experience I had with the band.
After that something changed somehow. 'All hope is gone' is interesting but the production is a bit too heavy and clean compared to the previous ones - and I honestly gave up with the rest of the dicography.
I also started to listen metal with the first album. To me, it is still as mean, agressive, desperate and perfect as day one.
I discovered slipknot outside of a concert venue where they were handing out a music sampler on cassette tape (yes, cassette tape). It had two songs from Coal Chamber and on the other side two songs from Slipknot’s debut. The mix of wait and bleed on the tape was slightly different to the one on the cd. Suffice to say those two songs was enough for me to buy the album. I never thought they would be as huge as they’ve become. Sadly I’ve never seen them live as my friends at the time were into hip hop, not metal.
I started listening to slipknot this year and started with vol 3 and I must say iowa is my number 1 WANYK and self titled are constantly being swapped as my number 2 and 3 and after listening to the end so far this is gonna be the same cycle with either the end so far being my number 4 or .5. Me personally I like AHIG over volume 3 as I think it vol 3 has a lot more forgettable tracks however I disagree with your opinion about vermilion I think it's a highlight of the album but that's your opinion and respect it same with your ranking of the albums. Good stuff man👍
I stopped caring after All hope it's gone which is to me a B with Vol 3.
Agreed on the S tier tho.
Having moved to more extreme sounds I can't really grasp what they trying to do with the band nowadays.
Really miss their aggression circa 2000's.
The dying song would’ve been a kick in the teeth if they saved it for the album release..especially after adderall
I had the self titled without the slipknot writing back in the day and gave it away when I bought the digi pack. I was so sad to find out Purity was only on that album.
Where on this would you put the new aderall ep.
Totally respect your list. Everyone has their own listening preferences and that is a good thing. It leaves more room in the space for music to be enjoyed. My tiers would have went:
S Tier: Slipknot, Iowa
A Tier: Vol. 3
B Tier: All Hope Is Gone
C Tier: We Are Not Your Kind
D Tier: The End, So Far
and I would add an F Tier for : The Gray Chapter.
Personal opinion, they really started to fall off after Paul died, then even more after Joey was released. You used to be able find a groove in the music and ride it out the whole way through. They were masterpieces. Now it is too much experimentalism. Too many off beats for my liking and drop downs. It is like flooring your car, getting half way through the powerband and then taking your foot off the gas and coasting down. It's maddening. I love the band so much, but I have to force myself to listen to the last three when I would rather listen to any of the first five including Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat (which I have an original copy of from the night it released haha!)
100% agree
Personally, I would switch Vol.3 and Slipknot which may be an unpopular opinion, but otherwise I can get behind your ranking.
@@ResurrectionDreams Doesn't matter if it is an unpopular opinion. It is YOUR opinion and that is what matters and good on you for having an opinion of your own. Everyone likes everything differently. Have a great day!
The Gray Chapter hate is unacceptable
I almost agree to this ranking, just that I would put End So far in the B Tier instead
But yeah the gray chapter sucks (for me)
