How to fix a CD player drawer problem - #2

- When CD and DVD players stop working, its usually because of the drawer not opening and/or shutting. For this CD player, the problem turned out to be a broken belt between the motor and the wheel that has the gear that opens the drawer. I replaced the belt with a rubber band as a quick fix, but it would be better to purchase a replacement black rubber belt of the correct size.
If you like this one, you may like my other which uses a different player and solution:

GOD YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!!!! I was about to buy a new dvd player but then I saw your video! All I did was use a rubberband laying around and it worked! THX A MILLION!!!!
OMG, a Philips CDM4 Swing Arm Laser mechanism!! Those lasers were made to last!.
BTW, it's a very bad idea to put a rubber band in place of a proper belt because the rubber band will melt and ruin the mechanism in less than a year, depending on the quality of the band. You can get the original belt on any electronics store and it will last a lot longer.
I have to thank you a million times for your helpful vid! I had a DVD player standing around wich drawer wouldn't open anymore. I decided to watch some repair vids, take a screwdriver and look for the problem. After I openend the player I saw the problem rightaway: A broken belt. I replaced it with a rubber band and voilá - it works fine again! I'm so proud of myslef now - and my husband feels ashamed.
Anyway: Thanks a lot!
Great, congratulations! As others have pointed out, a rubber band won't last as long as a real replacement rubber belt that you might be able to get at an electronics store. But glad its working for now, and if the rubber band eventually fails, you know how to replace it. Tell your husband not to be too hard on himself and enjoy the DVD's!

Okay, I'll keep it in mind.
My husband is all-thumbs on electronics, but someone had to do it. He has other qualities I don't have and he knows that.
We'll enjoy every opening or closing of the tray - it'll always remember me of my victory! Yay!
Where the tray to be kept above or below the lock please reply ??
Get a proper belt I just bought one on eBay for £4.95 - nothing really. The rubber band fix is ok for 5 minutes but it will degrade and may cause more problems.
I've got a Plextor internal DVD recorder, it has a weird fault where if there is a disc in the drive it will eject fine, however if there is no disc in the drive the front panel ejects about a mm and I hear the drive whirring, then after 5 secs it just pulls the panel back in. Is this the belt and why does it only do it when there is no disc in? surely the disc isn't weighing it down enough to make it work?
Great video. I have a technics ch950 the cd tray opens and immediately closes. With speedy movements i can get a cd in or take one out. Is there a sensor that might need cleaning? I havent taken it to bits yet. too risky. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks and stay safe
ever work on an RCA 3cd Drawer? mines keeps saying reset after you hit eject or change disc.
Is that a Magnavox CDB-262? I just bought one recently; couldn't ask for a better player for the price, especially with the extremely transparent sounding DACs.
Star pattern = TORX Bit
hey i got a question. I got a LG DVD PLAYER and it wont spind the cd to read what should i do
@xsoldier111 - that sounds like a problem with Windows Autoplay, whatever your autoplay is set to is causing the computer to crash. If you have a linux boot cd like Puppy try loading Puppy linux and see if you get the same problem, if not then it's a windows problem (maybe a virus?)
i had this roblem too. lego rubber bands are strong and work good
MisterEricB, my computer drive is not working. The computer says there is nothing in the drive to eject, and when I put a new disk in it makes a whirring sound and spits the cd right back out. I can't find any info online about what to do
A very useful video, most helpful, thank you!
Hay Eric i was watch your video on fix cd player and i wounder have you Ever work on NumarkCDN88 cd player i thing the problem the same as in your video but my friend say the hole door need change
Hey E.B. my line out L/R audio cd cable has broken off inside the red/white connectors on back of my Sony cd 200 disc player. How do i fix this? Pls, help me. Thxs.
Hi Tea, so it sounds like you just have a piece of the metal connector stuck inside the plug then? You could try getting it out with a strong magnet, but it may be too tight for that. So next you could try unplugging the player and opening the case, and see if the plug is open on that back so that you could push it out from the inside. If that doesn't work, your last option might be replacing the plug. It might be hard to find the exact same plug part, but you could probably make it work with one that is even close. Hope that helps!
Finally i found a good video to help me fix the Philips cd player cd850 Mk2, but the problem is i cannot find the white wheel that connect to the open close motor.. 😭
Tq so much for the video..
my brother broke the tray all the way off to try and fix it is there any way to repair it or play movies it's a blue ray
There are lots of different kinds of trays so it may be hard to find one that is exactly the same. I'd say you may have to order a replacement part from the manufacturer, but unfortunately that might be just as expensive as buying a new player.
Hi Why use an elastic band. That will deteriorate in few months and then you had to re-open that CD player again to replace the belt once again. Get the correct belt and install it so that you are set for many more years of problem-free enjoyment from your Cd player.
You are correct, of course. My video provides a quick fix, but it would be better to purchase a replacement black rubber belt of the correct size. I've updated the video description and added an annotation to point that out. Thanks!
put lithium grease on the rubber band to keep it from melting
what if the cd player has no belt just gear.
In that case, there could be a variety of other problems. I have another video where a piece just needed some grease and little paper shim How to fix a CD player drawer problem - #1 Just try doing an open/close with the case off and see if you can tell where its getting stuck
Yess
great!
thumbs up!
