    Came home late from work and felt tired and unmotivated to do my swim session. (Currently training for my first Ironman in Cph next year). I make a cup of tea and sit in front of my computer to see what Lionel is up to, and after seeing him do his swim session twice I know within mysef that there is only one thing to do now. I hurry out the door before the pool closes to get the session in. I end up having one of the best sessions of my life. Thanks again Lionel for your inspiration ! You have been a part of changing my life. Greeting from DK!

      @@fredericksmith4303 I mean, that wasn't the most articulate comment, but in the past the Nords have gotten in trouble for doping in cross country skiing. Also, while there has not been evidence to suggest doping, the rise of Jakob Ingebrigtsen and the rest of the clan is noteworthy. Jakob has been training like a pro runner since he was kid, but to win the Olympic gold at 20 over the heavy favorite is suspicious

    • @carljohan1234
      @carljohan1234 2 роки тому +2

      Please check your data before making comments. Norwegians have some of the lowest rates of doping worldwide, as well some of the strongest anti-doping regimes. There has been arguments whether asthma medicine is doping, that’s pretty much it.

    • @carljohan1234

      And the ingrebrigtsens literally have zero doping suspicions surrounding them - apart from good times. Steady progress since the age of 12 and an entire camera crew following them for the tv show. No way they are doped

    Definitely a new era. Getting closer and closer to sub 7 hours! I think within a couple of years, the top 5 IM athletes will need to run sub 2:30 off a sub 4 hour IM bike, to win an IM title. That's where the biggest time gains will come from.
    The coaches just need to fine tune the training and I believe the athletes will make it happen.
    Onwards and Upwards 💪🏽 Lionel ❗️❗️

    I remember reading an articel about swiming training back in the 90's where the main point was that so much of the energy gets lost to water resistance that the main focus should always be to minimize drag and get the optimal position in the water. I think the article said that if you increased the power by some amount only about 10% of that power would actually translate into swiming faster. The remaining 90% would be lost. I can't remember who wrote the article. But I think it was one of USA's previous national team coaches. Main focus of the article was about "Pushing the T". I think you have reached the same type of conclusions.

    Lionel, Its about efficiency. Its not about more power. You have the power. Be more efficient. Smoother. Get those knees tucked in on the bike. Work on your core and hips, so your not rocking side to side. Work on your arm swing in the run. Work on the details of how to be faster for the same or reduced effort. Tell Byron Thomas I said Hi!

    I wanted to say that GUSTAV Iden is an underdog. Kristian is the guy who will take it all. They both started in 2010 for a 10 year long goal where all other triathletes train year to year or race to race. I can’t believe how hard is to be on top level in triathlon. At 46 I can only dream and beat my age groupers. Great video as always!

    I started swimming 6 months ago at the age of 27 seven and after so much pain, so much struggle, I came to realize that's as if the water is moving and your body's almost static, there's no muscle at all and now I have to change my swimming techniques cause although my swimmates tell me I look elegant, and I look professional swimming, I built that on the idea of muscleing my way through it and now that I started to understand the water I'm relearning all the movements again, I'm loving the process

    Swimming is a technical sport for most adults because as non (competitive) swimmers during childhood we have never had the fundamental education to swim correctly. In running and cycling we have had that in our daily life and that´s why we feel if something is going wrong. We do not necessarily know exactly what is going wrong, but we notice it and a few hints from a coach will be enough to fix the problem. In swimming we do not have the natural connection to the water and the feeling for these movement patterns. We are maybe or very likely doing something wrong without even noticing it. That´s why we need a lot of very good coaching.

But, I also think to maximize his results he has to make his running form a priority just like he has with his swimming. If he ran more efficiently I think he could run with anyone. I have been a life long runner and finally had a gait analysis done and the feedback has had an immediate impact on my running form and performance. Thanks for the great and honest videos of your journey to be the best and never giving up!

    The sport hasn’t changed but the standards required to win have just risen and instead of one person at that level in Frodeno, you now have 3. Everyone else needs to join the party and no doubt that you won’t be found short from a lack of smart application. I am positively inspired by your attitude in acceptance of the challenge, the excitement and energy it gives you and that there’s a whole better than ever you to go realise.

    • @joevanvaler392
      @joevanvaler392 2 роки тому +3

      Unfortunately, that's probably not going to happen. I feel confident in a Gustav, Kristian, Jan podium, given that nothing goes horribly wrong. Those dudes just don't have weaknesses. And Sebi will have a really hard time getting into the top 5 given his Achilles injury. Lionel has been beaten in Iron-distance races THIS YEAR by many heavy-hitters, including Jan, Gustav, Sam Long (albeit during the Coeur d'Alene mishap), Joe Skipper, and Cam Wurf. I definitely see Lionel in the top 10, but the sport of triathlon is simply becoming too competitive to bank on a championship title given a swim weakness and unreliable history for the distance. Here are my predictions:
      1st, 2nd, 3rd: some permutation of Jan, Gustav, Kristian
      4th- 8th: some permutation of Lionel, Patrick Lange, Joe Skipper, Cam Wurf, Sam Long
      Competing for top 10: Rasmus Svenningson, Jan Van Berkel, Leon Chevalier, Florian Angert, Daniel Baekkegard, Denis Chevrot, Kristian Hogenhaug
      There are probably a few people I am forgetting about. Either way, the only thing you can expect on race day is for SOMETHING unexpected to happen. So who knows how inaccurate my predictions will end up being. By the way, I don't mean to offend anyone. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Lionel. I'm simply trying to analyze this objectively.

    I will say, and don’t mean to be rude at all - just from observation, this Lionel guy surely could work on his running technique? I am not an expert at all, and I am 100% sure this has been mentioned already, but as a runner, he looks like he limps almost, and his heel-striking 😖😖 , it hurts my joints just watching it…

    Interesting comments by Lionel about learning to swim as an adult. My daughter has been swimming competitively since she was quite young, and training has always emphasized technique. It is not that intensity and power do not matter, but technique must be maintained. I wonder if that gets lost somewhat in the chaos of the triathlon race setting.

    what kind of headphones are you using in the video (min. 3:10 or something) and are they good? :D And btw. super sympathic video, you should win next year the world championship (the 2nd one in Kona!) :)

    I love Lionel and Sam but I won't be sad when Europeans (N, DE, DK, GB) eat them for breakfast next year. :D Really hoping for good fight.
    Thanks for the video - Lionel's fighting spirit is super inspirational.
