I live in Springfield Louisiana. The bald cypress grows all around me. I have many on my property. Two years ago I tried planting some from crushed cones. I just crush the cones by hand and spread them in rows in a grow bag this is done in feb. . No need to remove the seeds as they grow like crazy here. With little effort I had over 60 seedlings.
What did you do to get 30% germination? Someone said they managed to get 20% by planting them in January and letting them get two months of cold before they sprouted in spring. Someone here also commented they had high success in Louisiana by planting in February. Maybe the trick is to let them stratify planted in the ground for a month or two prior to spring. I appreciate your videos and your thoughts thanks!
I had the SAME thing happen to me this year. Dry stored the seeds in the fridge all winter, planted them up in the spring, and only one germinated after 3-4 weeks. Even went back and put 3 additional seeds in each seed container (18 count rootmakers) and only got one additional seedling.
I’m new to the channel and just watched your Chinese Pistache video you put out 3 years ago. Hope they did well for you. Room to grow some for the first time and was wondering how they did for you?
Hi, I just came across your channel and subscribed. I heard that storing the seeds in a mason jar works well. Also, did you do a video about your greenhouse build? I'm in the process of building one, just have a frame up I used from a shelter logic garage in a box I had its 12x16 too. I just ordered the plastic for it today and was looking for tips to install it.
I have a few compost bins that I put it in but only use it for garden or maybe if i am potting something up into a really large container i might use some in the bottom,,,I prefer fresh soil with fresh Rootmaker fertilizer.
How good do you think these seeds would do if i planted them in a river flood zone for the winter?(bought 2 seedlings from amazon in the spring and planted them there, they've survived being flooded at least 5 times this year and are thriving.)
My earliest memories of this tree is seeing them growing in the middle of creeks at six flags over Texas, I believe as long as they can get somewhat established first they should thrive there
Let the MN DNR do it. That's what they get paid for apparently. You show how to do it, but I'm a different person now. It takes too damn long. But you teach how to do it for effect. IDK guy. I'm a working stiff.

Next year I am going to collect a ton of them and try several different methods and see if I can find one that works best!!

Good Luck!!
How about the Damp Paper towel in plastic bag trick to germinate you think that will work on these?

I did do some videos of my build, but was not a lot of interest in them and it took so long to do it while filming so I did not fim all of it.
Thanks, I did find the video after I sent you the msg.
Do you re-use the soil ? Asking about the soil with nutrients in the tray.

I have heard these are hard to get to sprout
Yes!!, I am not giving up on them,,going to try some different things next time and see if I can get my germination rate up
