Hopefully they will figure out how to start a new one. One that takes over the Magas. I’m a Democrat but I feel for the normal Republicans that have to watch their party get destroyed by Trump😔
They are going to replace them with MAGA. Only Trump going to prison can save this party….

My understanding was that the reason Democrats didn’t step in to help McCarthy had everything to do with how he was unreliable and tried to have it both ways. Plus didn’t he stab them in the back at some?
I figured this would happen after the RNC take over.
The Post WW2 OG MAGA was Reagan and his supply-side economics. We're primarily in this mess because of him and those policies/and their beliefs. We must remember Nixon's Southern strategy and all of his shenanigans with Watergate. Lest we forget Goldwater's opposition to the Civil Rights Act and J. McCarthy with his red scare. The GOP has flirted with the no decency, the us-vs-them mentality of the American public, bringing the worst out of us mainly for tax cuts (Trump and Bush's greatest achievements, besides creating this crooked SCOTUS) and political supremacy.
It's not only that MAGA is a GOP problem. Their anti-new-deal was/is anti-worker, the anti-great society was/is anti-women anti-racial equality. With better representation(equality) in politics, economics, and society at large, we can live up to our ideals of being a free country. Perhaps I didn't go far enough; we wouldn't be in this mess if Eisenhower had ruthlessly gone after J. McCarthy much earlier and the far-right during his prime political salience.
They could have switched to independent(caucus with the Dems) or become Manchin Democrats; that would have been better. The deficit is primarily there because of these massive tax handouts to fat cats from Reagan, Bush, and Trump.(there is no liberal wing of the republicans and I think that's another reason for this mess) Stop the handouts for the rich and stop starting wars (looking at both parties, but lately, there have been Republicans), and our budget is mostly straightened out. K McCarthy, Gallie, and K Burns are all still far right, even if they aren't T Maga right. The difference is their loyalty to the Trump/MTG wing. They want the same things; they just won't bend the knee.
I assume that if trump loses and can't overthrow the election it might cause a shakeup in the Republican party,, as a former Democrat that votes Democrat I would be interested in a center right Republican party.
Well said. There's an environment, starting at the very top with Trump -- who truly does direct and control things -- where bad character is rewarded, and in fact is required for the job.
It’s not dysfunctional. When the margins are that narrow, it’s difficult to get things done. Real dysfunction is if you have a 20 seat majority and can’t get anything passed. Also trying to reign in spending is harder and republicans in theory attempt to quell spending. Even though they don’t in practice. Democrats always unite around spending.
It's dysfunctional. Compare the last Congress, which had a razor-thin Democratic majority, with this one.
