I use inline spinners on 2-4 pound line with a ugly stick gx2 and it works fine
I never go down to 2 lb line just because I like to use my trout rod for light tackle bass at times. But I’ve heard it works! Thanks for watching!
i use 6 lb line on a 5’6” ugly stick gx2 and run it with some rooster tails and i love it! trout catching machine

That Panther Martin color combo never disappoints!
I call that particular lure, Excalibur because it works so well. Last week, it even caught me a 16 in smallmouth out of a river.
I’ve found hair jigs on ultralight are pretty hard to beat for trout if you aren’t fly fishing. Depending on color and how you work it they can imitate anything from baitfish to a hellgramite.
I saw a comment above that spinners work well in lakes and deeper rocky rivers, I tend to agree with that! Good video 👍🏻
Thank you, I'll keep this in mind next time
@@mulcahy123yessir especially pink ones i’m not sure why but i find they always get hit
I just caught a bunch of trout on a piece of pink yarn while flossing for sockeye salmon.
Yep! This is my go to. 1/32 marabou jigs. Peach, green, black, white, orange, and pink are my favorites. Super easy fly to learn how to tie as well.
Caught my first Trout on a spinner 50 years ago in a wee river in Scotland.
The lure you used was probably a more modern design than the one in this video. The likes of mepps and savage gear make better designed spinners than than the thing in the vid
@dunc2258 yes it was a wee mepp you are right.
Caught mine around the same time on a spinner in a tiny stream on the US east coast.
@sparkeyjones6261 yes it's all fly fishing l do now. Never been to the US mabe some day. Tight lines.
@@user-we5mi6zl2s I began tying my own flies and building rods when I was about 12 yrs old. Other than a little saltwater fishing on the US West Coast, I definitely prefer fly fishing. I've never fished in Scotland, but I do have a friend who's family has a plot of land on the River Spey. One day I'll make it there 😉 Cheers!
I almost exclusively use spinners now. Glitter Black in the AM , Brown Trout or Salmon Fly in the PM
Try a split shot on a small loop of mono through the swivel eye on the mainline side, that stops the twist better
I’m super intrigued by this and really want to try it! Anywhere I can see the setup? Thanks for watching!
So another thing you didn’t mention was feeling for the spinner tension to know it’s actually spinning. Especially with PM you can feel the spoon spinning. To fast fish won’t go for it too slow and they won’t pay any mind to it. Right in that pocket and it’s money.. this my favorite color option too.
That’s very true! Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!
I bought a panther martin. I cannot get hit for the life of me!!
@@furyianman5157 slow it down, let it fall steady retrieve and you’ll be in there.
@@furyianman5157 make sure you’re getting it down where the fish are and try fishing down current so you can have a slower retrieve!
Black and yellow body with gold spinner #4 best
Just tie a snap swivel at the end so you can easily change out lures/spinners. The swivel mid line can make for some awkward casts and less accurate
no snap swivel's are for sissys.
It does take some getting used to to cast. But I’ve found swivels directly to my lure alter the bait presentation and I get more follows but less fish that commit. Thanks for watching!
@@Forbiddenzone80some say trout fishing with spinners is for sissies...
I use a 17-pound line, and it works on them
I was worried my 8 pound line is to heavy 🤣🤣
great tips, although i don’t recommend fishing them downstream and reeling them to you (as someone who has used spinners for trout countless hours). reason why is streams with a moderate to quick flow will REALLY make that spinner spin, and i find that’s something you don’t always want on more spooky fish (which trout often are). thanks for the video! not enough people know about this cheat code
I learned the best time to use Spinners is when you’re in a rocky lake or river
They definitely perform great in rocky environments, thanks for watching!
@@Cavachonc777wth thats the most random thing ever
One thing that I find to be a big weakness with Lures, are the exposed hooks. They can snag on underwater rocks and tree parts, like logs and such. If that happens, you have to try and try and try again, to get your Lure back, and if you can't, then there goes several dollars worth of Lure! They used to have a Weedless Hook Guard System, that someone came up with on a few Lures...but, to this day, they don't seem to have developed a Weedless Hook Guard for Lures.
I guess we're just stuck with the old game of "Rollin' the Dice, band takin' your chances, when it comes to fishing Lures with no hook guards!
@@ronaldshank7589probably because having something actually block your hook is a lot worse than snaging
reel faster if you are snaging its almost always because you are reeling to slow and bouncing off the bottom also elevate your rod tip to keep the lure further away from the floor also if you hate snaging that much and can't get around it take the treble hooks off your lure and change them out for just normal u hooks or what ever you want ive always noticed treble hooks are way more prone to snaging they weight more and have more surface area to get caught on
I don't know im the king of snags I just lost a nice chatter bait and spinner today
@@ronaldshank7589 I fish weedless all the time dude, maybe the old school ones you're talking about got replaced with a different brand. I have weedless neko hooks that I think I found at Dick's sporting goods
Panthers and rooster tails work great!!
What’s the perfect weight to use for inline spinners for trout? 1/4oz?
And, do you count down your spinner to the depth that you want or retrieve right away?
I got a blue fox spinner size 4 i think attached to a clamp swivel with a small split shot about 6 inches up. I reel smooth with small movement back and forth kinda twitch. I always catch a few this way or just a double red devil spinner always grabs a trout attention
I’ve always used much heavier line just because a lot of the time I used to use the same rod/reel and line for bass and trout but I’ve never had any issues. Still catch a lot of trout on 10LB line
I use 10 lb braid with a fluorocarbon leader. Fluorocarbon a lot clearer for smart trout. I not talking ultralight , but I do use a lighter setup. It does make a difference. You'll see that if someone with you is catching more.
@@davidarwood6264 yesterday I caught a 25” 6Lb rainbow on the river. So I probably won’t change much up for now
use a 5lb fluorocarbon or maxima ultra green leader and make it 20" and use a blood naught to connect the lines and use any spinner with a orange body and you will slay, or just use a blood naught on a bobber setup with eggs if there really picky
Definitely a paid actor in video
That’s a setup I haven’t seen before around here, I’ll have to check it out, thanks for watching!
Underpaid for sure, thanks for watching!
how big of a deal is having a leader line? Do you notice a difference? Does a snap swivel tied directly to braid effect the action of the lure?
It helps but isn’t a deal breaker, I’ll use snap swivels directly to lures but it makes the lure presentation different and sometimes fish will follow but not hit it as often. Thanks for watching!
Trout will be line shy of the braid.. you want a leader on end of braided line
If you havent heard of them, joes flies are amazing with just about all fish but trout cant resist em. Theyre a golden spinner with a feather tail and you can get them at cabellas or online
Joes flies I’ve never had a ton of luck with before but maybe I’ll give them another try! Thanks for watching!
@anglerspursuit yeah idk I live in washington and they catch just about anything! mainly trout and bass. Great video as always
No fish were hurt during the making of this video. Also and usually the major difference in catching or not catching is Depending on the depth of the river/stream and time of day and time of year if it’s a deep patch of river I always let it sink for a couple seconds before starting my retrieval usually the trout are right on the bottom and the slowest you can reel without getting snagged is my secret. Friend was fishing right next to me and was retrieving too quickly and never had a chance to get near the bottom.
For trout I really like a 1/8 oz CastMaster on 4 lb mono. U can really get sum distance casting. I can even cast it under bushes n branches. Tight lines my friend.
I haven’t used that size cast master! I’ll have to give it a try! Do you like it on rivers? Thanks for watching!
I'll give this a try!!
I fished 2 tributaries of the Eel River and found that the north one liked a silver Phoebe and the middle fork liked a Mepps minnow size 0. With both I would twist the blade so that there would be more action. The mountain lakes in the area liked a Swedish pimple red in the spring and bait in the summer.
It’s never that easy
That’s awesome, thanks for watching and sharing!
A fluorocarbon leader would be better than mono for the abrasion residence. It'll take longer for trout teeth to cause any damage, if they're finicky use a longer leader. I usually tie a 6' leader onto my main line with no swivel, however you could use a small enough swivel that you can reel it into the guides.
Dare you to find any fluoro that beats out good mono like Maxima.. some of us won't use flouro for its issues.
I thought I was going insane not seeing anyone else not using swivels here, I personally find it can mess with the action of the spinner in certain conditions and is just not needed
@@maxsoregon and that's absolutely fine, there's also people that won't use braid. We can all enjoy our sport how we choose, and that makes it all better. Drives the manufacturers to make better products, because they have to be better than the competition.
do you think a medium action rod is sensitive enough for smaller spinners? ivr never fished for smaller stocked trout before
I’d recommend a ultralight or light rod for smaller spinner. You’ll feel it better and have a lot more fun! Thanks for watching!
Panther Marton is one of my favorites. It catches more than just trout
They’re great and very effective lures, thanks for watching!
Trout, Bass, Bluegill, Sunfish of various types, Crappie, and even the occasional Catfish!
Panther Martin Spinners can catch 'em all! My favorite type of Panther Martin Spinner is the Bumblebee Pattern Spinner. They work great!
will using a 10-60g rod with 15lb line be ok for streams
Probably a little heavier duty than you want but if you have it it’s definitely worth a try to test it out, you can always adjust after you fish some by changing, thanks for watching!
How do you keep from getting snagged on logs and things in the water I lost a few flys recently and they were somewhat similar to your setup but get caught
I don’t use a swivel at all and I’ve been trout spinning for a couple years now with no problems
For my main line is it fine to use 10lb mono going down to barrel swivel then my leader is 6lb fluro?
Could just tie a clip on the end yeah? Ones i got are a little big but im sure i can find smaller so theybdont weigh it down.
I have done that! Don’t love how it affects the hair presentation but it still works! Thanks for watching!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Does the length of the spinner make a difference I was using a copper spinner about 2/3 inches long and can’t catch but someone fishing same time same place was catching small fish but had 8 in an hour using the same size as you but copper?
What fishing rod n reel is that? Thanks for sharing.
Eagle claw telescopic rod with an okuma ceymar c10 reel. Thanks for watching!
Can I use fluorocarbon for leader I already have some and it would be easier than having to buy mono
Yes definitely, flouro works well too! Mono is just generally cheaper. Thanks for watching!
Depends. Floro floats. So keep that in mind. 2lb maxima ultra green is solid!
Hi is a leader absolutely necessary as I do not have the correct line for one?
It’s not, but you could just take a piece of line off your reel and tie it on to a swivel
Leader isn’t 100% necessary, I just find it helpful to limit line twists, thanks for watching!
What pole and reel you using?
I use 10lb moss green braid and attach barrel swivel directly to my inline lures with a split ring works great..
Also I only use 1/6 to 1/4oz lure and have caught 4in to 26in trout.
That Panther Martin is the best for brookies
Nice man also some states and waters you cant use anything more than a single hook for trout
What pound line and liter do you use
4-6 lb mono for both, thanks for watching!
That specific pattern slays. Trout, large mouth, small mouth, land locked salmon. They hammer it
Caught my first trout on a steele shad. Was kinda surprised too.
You don’t need to put an inline spinner on a barrel swivel. The action comes from the spoon spinning aroung the stationary lure
Will this work in a lake? I'm just now learning how to trout fish
It will work for trout on a lake. On bigger bodies of water you just have to be able to get the lure to the fish which is harder on a lake. Thanks for watching!
I Use A Spinning rod with a Spinner or a Small crank bait when i am on a drift boat, when we stop or we are on rising trout i take out my Fly rod
That sounds like a great time! Thanks for watching!
panther martins are deadly, especially on grayling. my favourite for trout are rooster tails.
Adding a small worm to the hook works good since it leaves a scent trail .
Haha 😂 I visited this long barn river a few months back!
How do u Change it to a single hook
I buy them with a single hook. I haven’t been able to change them out myself. You can get them on amazon. Thanks for watching!
The same way you put on and take off keys on a keychain
Do i have to put a worm or bait on it or do I throw it out like that
No worm or bait needed. It’s a reaction bite to the spinner! Thanks for watching!
@@anglerspursuit thank you, I will definitely subscribe
Don't forget to cast at the bottom of rapids, there's more oxygen in the water, and food tends to build up there because of the current. They love hanging out in the pools just below rapids. Gl boys n grills.
Do you know what the best color is?
Black and gold panther Martin! Thanks for watching!
Blue Fox, I think it was #0. I wouldn’t have predicted that bright silver would work but it outfished others, even in the skinny water
Ima be honest I’ve caught the most and the biggest on a whole night crawler size 8 to 10 hook and just putting it under a bobber if little to no current
Definitely a great option! Most of the places I fish don’t allow live bait! Thanks for watching!
@@anglerspursuit oh I under stand I went to Oregon to see family and the river out back of my hotel has a no live/soft bait rule and I’ve never seen anything like that because that’s not a thing in New York where I’m from
How fast are you supposed to reel?
Bro is this is a 2part fishing rod?
That was a nice size brookie
I've caught so many fish on that pattern PM
Try the green flake versjon 😊
Haven’t tried that one but I’ll have to get one, thanks for watching!
Is that the eagle claw pack it 😂 nice!

No need to over complicate it lol! Thanks for watching!
Barrel swivel scares mine away
Dude is rigged up the same exact way as me. Yellow eagle claw telescopic rod and spinner. Don’t forget to add a worm though for scent.
Oh, I also use a snap swivel instead of a barrel.
Is it fine if I use 8lb fluero and 10 lb braid?
It’s a bit heavy for trout
Funny I just went fishing 2 days ago for trout 😂
Love a Joe's fly!!
No treble? Canadian here we eat specks on account they pollute all our small streams with tasty fishness
I will use treble, if the stream requires single or I know I’ll catch and release then I’ll go down to single but the landing ratio definitely drops. Thanks for watching!
@@anglerspursuit I do the same I'm just busting ya chops. Tight lines
Gold blade black with yellow dots best one ever made
That’s in spinner is in my top 5 lures I use daily
Ive dont ever use swivels. Works perfectly fine.
Where can I find this spinner
Why don't you also crimp your hook if catch and release?
Panther Martin makes some new spinners that have built in swivels
You can cast up stream across the stream and down stream😂 i dident know that before😂
Casting upstream = lots of snags
That’s my favorite spinner
Best out there! Thanks for watching!
The best luck I’ve had are on 1/8 oz brown bodied rooster tails with a good blade. I’ve caught them all over America with that
I've had amazing luck catching trout with spinners
A 1/8 to a 1/4 cast king works better in my experience. Give it a nice twitch action...
How do you switch the hooks without breaking them? Theres no way to slip the loop out of it to replace with single shank hooks. I hate when I get a tiny trout that swallows a treble hook🤦🏾♂️😂
I just use 1 spinner and no berrel swivel and still usually catch fish
Love the single hook on it, treble hooks can really damage the fish
I always use barbless
I always match the requirements for the streams!
Amen! ALWAYS barbless. Don't matter if they allow em or not.
Who cares where eating these anyways
Was that a native trout?
Yeah, just use a snap swivel.
Definitely a solid option and I’ll tie one on if I need a quick change on the water. If just changes the presentation slightly and I find I get less fish committing to bite when I use it! Thanks for watching!
Don't know that you need to clutter your line with a swivel whe you're using an in-line spinner. Just sayin.
I find that it helps prevent line twists from the spinners so I use it with them but not other lures. Thanks for watching!
@@anglerspursuitgreat video. I would add that most spinners have their own swivel
Bro what happened to the treble hook
If you catch and release, you should really debarb as well
Everytime I try to fish these in a river it gets caught on a rock and I loose my 8$ lure... lost my brand new one last night
Felt that my girl got mines tangled on a fat tree branch underwater lol
4’6” micro series rod with lews ultralite reel ~ $40 never think about trout gear again ( can get 5’6” too if you like trees)
I'm just here ti give you props for using a single hook and not a trebel.
Just pinch barbs!
