New Ferrari Portofino M review. Why I would choose this over the Ferrari Roma
Вставка

- The new Ferrari Portofino M is the cheapest new Ferrari on sale today yet it packs 620bhp, a near 200mph top speed and comes with a folding hardtop as standard. What I'm keen to find out is would I buy this on the Ferrari Roma?

I drove past Harry in this the other day whilst they were filming this video. I live round there and whenever I see an exotic, it’s almost always Harry!
Ees a lacky lacky buoyee
I love hardtop convertibles. This is the perfect entry Ferrari, I can't imagine a better car to give people buying their first Ferrari a greater entry experience. The compromise between performance and enjoyment of the quality of life generated by the car is unmatched
I've always said that myself. Hardtop convertibles look more stylish compared with fabric roof convertibles which look tacky & cheap. Also hardtop convertibles are comparatively safer
I think some of these buyers are wising up and realizing that 0-60 time doesn’t really mean anything if you’re not interested in racing your car
Have you been in a quick car? 0-60 is irrelevant esp in something like this, it’s the energy and responsiveness that’s going to be additive, this and the fact you can turn it all down and go to Tesco’s without a problem, really clever.
Exactly who cares unless you encounter say a 720S or superbike say an S1000rr while you are out in this. Let's be honest this Ferrari will leave any average car for dead if it launches in full attack mode. So the whole dick measuring over who can launch fastest is just becoming irrelevant and boring. That and if you let the average Joe try launch one of the modern turbo Ferrari's unless the road is bone dry and the tyres are up to heat it'll break traction easily and make that driver shit their pants. Hell even in perfect conditions when all the torque comes in it'll still break traction. That and you just know some pleb Tesla fanboy will come along saying "mwuuuh the Tesla Model S Plaid arse licker edition can launch in 1.9 seconds" or something along those lines.
@Uncle Gilbert I think cars like the 720 and this Ferrari are still exciting and great cars to drive. However, the whole dick measuring 0 to 60 obsession is just boring.
@@Steve-rv1ql Yeah but who is actually going to be brave enough to drive their Ferrari on a daily basis to Tesco's? You probably get some fuck nugget who'll key it or accidentally curb an alloy. Most supercar owners would be far too scared to take their pride and joy down to supermarket regularly.
I agree. I'd prefer a GTC4Lusso T. 600hp, 3.5 secs to 60mph and 199mph top speed is MORE than enough, plus it's actually usable.
I love it. I don't think the styling suffers in comparison to the Roma at all - in fact, this is the new first car in a while that I've seen and immediately thought 'wow, that's beautiful', especially in that colour.
Cheers Harry, now I know what to get after selling my 2006 Toyota Aygo
That, sir, really made me laugh. I’m selling a 2011 z4 that may pay for the insurance for a year!! I need this Ferrari though…….
Does anyone need a kidney? I’ve got one for sale… one careful owner… 😀
downgrade really
All you need is a supercharger. Have a look on UA-cam.
LOL
Stay the Porsche course
The Portofino was always the underdog for me, I love the way it looks

I've watched this review 3 times now and each time I gain a bit more insight and understanding regarding how truly brilliant this hardtop convertible from Ferrari is!
We love you Harry. more farm videos please. Super informative and unbiased information presented in a reasonable manner. Thank you for not asking for donations to help support your channels.
There is something oddly fascinating about watching convertible hardtop retractions and deployments.
That's true car porn! Me too, by the way.

Harry your videos are smashing. Watching you push the thing and describe the handling feel is always my favorite part. More please 🙏
As everyone's saying : yes! The performance thing has got out of hand. Buy one, use and enjoy. What's better? Not a Bentley for sure. Good car, good price. Job done. Thanks, H, for giving us something that's not football! ;-)
I so enjoy these Harry videos Really informative, in language you can understand. Thanks H.
Thank you for another great video. Not sure if it is still the case, because it has been a couple of years since I have been to the Ferrari factory, but they used to build the V8 engines by several different mechanics and only the V12 engines were built by one dedicated person.
you don't need a track weapon super fast Ferrari when the more practical one is so ludicrously fast. if you can only afford a single performance mid life crisis car it is perfect
Well, that and a camper van. I'd need the latter after selling my house to buy the former.
Is a pneumatic, perma-tanned, over botoxed, bleach-blonde girlfriend in the midlife crisis section of the options list?
@@helipeek2736 with one of these, I think it would be easy to find one - and without the ridiculous mark up of the Ferrari options list 😃
@@helipeek2736 that individual is the one who pushes you to chose this model over the mid-engined ones because it’s more practical.
Hence why the GTC4Lusso V12 is, to me, the best Ferrari if you can only have one or two cars. Practical, comfortable, savage-fast, sounds like wounded animal, and elegant.
Thank God Harry got hold of one of these. Been waiting for a decent review of it since first hearing about it. So far all the reviews have been about the beauty and majesty and all the usual cliches you get with Ferrari reviews. I wanted to see the back seats go down to know if you could get a snowboard in it and what it might be like for long trips across Europe. Can always rely on Harry to do a thorough real world review. Much appreciated Harry thank you.
Thanks Harry, long time follower, first time commenting. I ordered a Portofino M this week. Your review assisted a lot. I specced in TDF dark blue with burgundy interior. A little different but what I like. I also took your advice and avoided all exterior carbon but got the driver zone carbon with shift lights. Thanks again.
I agree Harry! This ticks more boxes than the Roma for me. It would be interesting to see it’s performance on a track day and punching it’s hp out on the Autobahn. Another HG video, maybe? Cheers
Great video Harry, love the intro/exhaust sounds!! I seen the standard Portofino at a restaurant near me in Langbank. (it was red and the owner left the roof down whilst he dined). Lovely car!
Another brilliant review , very informative and entertaining.
Cooking dinner on a Sunday with a beer and Harry's Garage has become a bit of a routine of mine.

I like the roof...and it's not too heavy, all things considered seems a nice GT car! Nice one Harry!👍🏻

Harry showing a Ferrari just before the Euro 2020 final. I can only hope that's not a bad omen!
💚🤍❤️ 😜
You mean good omen, as Italy winning is the good outcome
@@tommihommi1 exactly
Let's be honest even as an England fan I know Italy has the superior team. It is nice England has got to the final but the whole "Its coming home" is load of embarrassing shit especially when you look at the Italian team.
Harry, you are such a treat. Thanks for all these
Great video Harry - love the Portofino, a coupe and convertible in one, what’s not to love! 😍
Love the colour, it really works with that shape, love the interior, just enough tech without going overboard ,a full options list would buy a holiday apartment in Dubai (as per ) . Just a shame it sounds like a mk 2 Escort . 👍👍
The design is perfect
For rich guy's wives.

Great review, Harry. Love this car. Thanks again and stay safe!
Great Video again Harry Happy New Year

Another great watch. Thanks Harry
I follow Gooding car auctions in the US, cannot afford to buy, just love the older classics.
they had an F40, no drivers airbag, gated shifter, simplicity itself.
Makes the dash of this car look like a video game.
I love the metal folding roof. Best for English weather. Great Car.
agreed
Metal folding roof also gets my vote - Though a glass insert for our gloomy British weather is even better...!!
Another great video!
Thanks, Harry.
I do rather miss the Ferrari sounds of old, with this model, though.
Thanks again Harry for a great video. 🙏🏻👍🏻👏🏻
It certainly took my mind off the football and hangover! 😱🤐🍻😉🤦♂️
This Portofino has a summery appearance.
It looks like it was built for holidays!
Style and grace always beats any 0-60.
And yet people purchase the Tesla Plaid abomination.
You’re the best Harry….excellent review!
You are doing so well. Thank Ou and keep in
The Portofino actually looks really good here (the best angles are the side and the rear). For whatever reason the Roma and this really do not work that well in red. I would probably take the Roma, or wait and see if the new 296 GTB is any good.
Great review, or to put it another way, that's exactly what I thought on all fronts!
The Roma does retain the physical manettino but it's lost the old start button, a great shame! At least with the PF-M they've addressed the manettino envy with the old Cali and original PF to give it the full selection of modes. Select Race and soft dampers, perfect.
If you think 620 bhp is too much for the PF, how will the 'entry-level' mid-engined car, the 296, feel with 800?
Great review and filming 👍
Thank you Harry for a great review!! Me being picky, to put me more in the passenger seat with you would require less talking with a drivers camera POV so i/we could really feel and hear the engine do it’s thing. Merry New Year🎉
@10:22 Look at that solid line of cars coming out of Burford! Was this like Saturday or Sunday?
as always a great review. Simple question, do you think there may be a market for a Ferrari or other exotic w/o all the infotainment and electronic countermeasures? Older infotainment systems quickly look dated and support from the factory 15+ years down the road not overly likely. And analog gauges always look classic.
I don't really understand why manufacturers haven't caught on to this, particularly for stuff like Ferraris where you're not really buying it for the infotainment system. The engine should be entertainment enough!
I can see restorers offering to back date to get rid of teenager tech / aluminium folding roofs / footballer carbon. However, the real question (not just on Ferraris) may be whether the current style of headlamps will allow the cars to mature.
As an example, I have a high opinion of the original Boxster, but wouldn't it be great to have an after market front wing/light conversion to say 992.1...
@@j3652 Bugatti have, I’m pretty sure they don’t put touch screens in their cars as they are the quickest thing to look dated
Thank you, Harry.
Harry, I love that you started gushing a little bit there at the end.
Well done Ferrari, looks to be a fantastic car. Think it looks much better than the Roma personally. Great review as always Harry 👍
Agree on the looks. Not a Roma fan.
The Roma is a hideous mistake !
@@mkkrinkov The Roma is perfectly fine. For my comfort it is too busy inside with all the touchscreens and surfaces, but its such a good looking and well proportioned car, and it will have its buyers. I am pretty sure Ferrari will make good money on that car. Demand is skyrocketing towards these cars.
Way better than the roma
Does it really need to shed the weight of a metal roof, for a fabric one, if it already has enough power? If it already competes with the others with the metal roof, then the added security with the roof up is probably worth it.
Imagine let’s say 100lbs less on the highest point of the car.... that affects handling.
Exactly, it a cruiser not a record breaker.
Harry was a bit all over the place in this review, even contradicting himself!
It's not just about the weight, it affects the boot space and design.
Also, as Andy points out, this weight is high up.
Plus soft tops look rly dumb
Of all of the current Ferrari’s the Portofino is honestly my favorite, it has everything I would ever really need or want in a convertible sports car.
Love it - trip to B&Q in me Portofino M - I knew there was a reason for buying it!! (Coupe of bags of cement in the +2 seats). Great review as always. The Roma's lovely too, but totally different animal I think.
Would love a back to back comparison to the "old" California. you know, for us on a budget :)
I didn't expect the Portofino to be that good!
really informative video. really enjoyed it.
Amazing video as usual
Thank you. 😁
It gives an overall fine expression. A reasonable supercar? I could easily see myself in that.
When will there be an update on the XJ12C?
He showed an update of it in color with the engine ready to fit.
@@chesspiece81
Yeah, but that was a week ago.
Yes. I, too, can fully appreciate the looks and the handling...the fact its a convertible...and that color!! I think it is prettier than the Roma..which i do love but it looks like an Opal from the side...whereas the Portofino does not. I really prefer V12 engines..especially Ferrari's but this one is a pretty cat and behaves nicely...has beautiful manners. Thank you, Harry. I give you the last word and the first. The Portofina has a better price...
Haven't seen one in the metal but, from the video, it looks really well proportioned and elegant. True Italian styling. Not sure what's not to like. Maybe it's different close up.
Lovely car, awesome review as always. I'd still prefer the Aston Martin DBS Superlegerra cabrio, given the choice.
The Portofino is the one Ferrari that everyone forgets exists. I recently saw two 812 Superfasts in one week but have never seen a much older Portofino on the roads (that I can recall)
Ditto
I live in a suburb called Leichhardt (little Italy) in Sydney, AUSTRALIA.
In the past month I've seen everything from a 512TR to a beautiful deep crimson 458, a Roma and a beautiful 812 GTS spider.
I haven't seen a Portafino since Christmas 2020.
POSTSCRIPT- there were horns blaring and people cheering at 9 am (9 pm Sunday in the UK) this past Monday.
Does anyone know why there was so much noise coming from Little Italy, Sydney so early on a Monday morning ???
Something about a football game . . .
Just about to head out to Harry's test road, as I only live 2 miles away, as a further antidote to a certain, " other" sporting event now on.
I've driven it a few times - Great road on a sunny summers day 👍
Great review and car. Love it👌
Enjoyed the review thx
The interior is so much nicer than the Roma s (might actually be the best Ferrari interior) and I actually prefer the exterior as well. Find the Roma to be too much of an Aston and the front grille somehow feels wrong. Love this spec even though I certainly wouldn t get these carbon bits that cost a fortune but the black roof with this very colour are great. Wouldn t mind a less costly option with less power to make it more obtainable price-wise, that d make it lighter and possibly even better coz often times, it s simply more fun having less power but being able to use more of it instead of having lots but already thinking about a lawyer to deal with the consequences of this constant temptation. If Ferrari had a less powerful engine, it d suit this type of car I think.
I can see some styling cues from the f50 in this. Especially the front 3/4 view
Lay off the absinthe.
indeed
I need one must sell the moggy 1000 first, cheers Harry another great video
I really like this car because in the navigation menu one of points of interest are churches.
Well it is made by the company that have a history of gifting their cars to the pope 🤷🏾♂️
@@Maurice_Moss idk man but it's the only brand I've seen this😅
Does it show all churches? Or just special POI type of churches....Notre Dame and the local Presbyterian churches aren't quite the same 🤣
Hearing Harry say how popular the California and Portofino are with customers has actually surprised me. I wasnt really a fan of either car but it just goes to show that Ferrari were right to go into that market
Its the better car for people that just want to enjoy a ferrari on road trips and dont go to track.
Journalists =/ buyers.
Hence why suvs are hits with customers and irritate journalists. Imo, the biggest reason a 911 safari isn't a mainstream car is they keep thinking of the journalists, and not actual buyers. A 911 mainstream safari would sell like hot cakes though. Americans love weird off road idiocy. Even if we are just taking a car to Starbucks.
Another fabtastic review of what appears to be a fabtastic Ferrari. Thanks Harry 😎
Great stuff again. Thanks.
I was hoping you made a review of the Portofino.
To my eyes this car is even more beautiful than the Roma. I think the Roma is just more modern looking and that's why people like it more.
The Portofino might even look a tiny bit "boring", but I think that's the beauty in it. It's not some overstyled shape.
Well, you’ve sold it to me. Ticks just about every box.
Get an 812 GTS. Why bother as the rear seats are useless.
Agreed!
@@AB-80X It's easy to say "get this or that because it's so much better" when you take money completely out of the equation.
Even more so when you don't even know what Steve's needs are in the first place.
@@CreMoi
I know so e things about needs from a general perspective. I own an 812 GTS and ordered a Porto I never took delivery of. Want four seats? Get a used Lusso. Why are you so hung up on the price anyway? Most who can afford one, can also afford the other.
@Car Compilation The relevance of this?
Classy British humor in the timing of this excellent review. Congrats to fierce opponents and fellow petrolhead!

Brilliant review. Yes, Portofino M over Roma and over AMG GT, 911 and CGT Speed. Just a huge Fun Factor.
He needs that bit of road at that junction named “ Harry’s le tour” with a sign. 😁 See I love my cars but don’t really want them to bite my head off, I want them to look after me. I want to be able to push on but not in a it will bin me in a hedge. I’m too old for driving on the edge something I never really did anyway. That to me is perfect it’s daily usable, it’s spirited enough to enjoy and comfortable to drive. To dream of an European road trip through some of the passes just enjoying the scenery.
This is my favorite current Ferrari. Yes, it is the least expensive but it is more affordable. Awesome convertible. Plenty fast for mortals. I have no interest in running one on the track. I know I'm not Michael Schumacher and neither are you. It's my dream car. Make mine in Red!
You don't want it in Rosso Corsa. It will look bloated.
Even Michael Schumacher enjoyed of going comfortable in a car on a public road. No need to have race track performance.
I agree. When I picture a McLaren, I see it on a track hammering the road, when I picture a Ferrari it is usually having a rapid drive with the top down somewhere around Orange County
Harry, you REALLY REALLY need to team up with Jay Leno at Leno's Garage and one of the other visit the other. It would be great to see you two together discussing cars. You both are the two BEST 'Car collection/driving' channels and I'd love to see it happen.
I really like this one Harry ...well done 👏
that colour this spec is absolutely beautiful
Surprisingly great for “normal driving”. A Coupé and convertible all in one is the attraction for me. Is there a rival ? Not in my book, Bentley is too big & cloth roof, same with Aston Martin Vantage cloth roof & Porsche too. Make mine the same colour too. Thanks Harry, great review as always, save your Countach for me please.
I believe I saw this car going to Dick Lovett Ferrari in Swindon a few days ago.
Enjoyed the vid!
I like this car. Lovely review Harry
I’m right in the mood for a Ferrari convertible right now - unfortunately Universal Credit doesn’t take my mood into account 😂. So it’s back to the lottery again.
Same lol
Scratchcards also a good option for a tidy 308 with nice cream leather.
I think some big accumulators would be a better bet, but I hear you :D
Get a job!
@@ollie-t7862 got one, but it won’t pay for a Ferrari - even if I chuck in my massive redundancy payment. If you are offering a higher paid job with a Ferrari company car, I’d be glad to accept
The AC vents look very similar to those in my Dad’s 1977 Ford Capri. They were good, too.
But the overall package was probably not up to the standards of a modern Ferrari.
Love the shots of over your left shoulder facing the wind shield! This car looks fantastic and appears great to drive despite its niggles. It may not be a proper ferrari but if I had the money I buy this over the Aston and Mercedes! 😅
Very nice indeed, thanks Harry

I love both Roma and Portofino!!
No they are not reliable, going to be in the shop all the time,,,

Interesting that it’s referred to as the entry level Ferrari, implying it’s the one you have to settle for rather than the one you really want. I drive for a guy who is in his 70’s now who bought a Portofino. His last Ferrari before the Portofino was an F12. He could of had any or all of the Ferrari line up, but the Portofino is perfect for him. The F12 is too full on. He doesn’t do track days, Isn’t as bendy getting in and out of cars these days and likes a drop top. As you have said , they are stupid fast , very nice to travel distances and you really don’t think when you drive one, that they are too soft and don’t handle. Yes you can buy more focused cars for the track , but it’s a road car.!!!!!
Great car
Agree100% , plus only use half the fuel of a v12. Is a nice bodyshape too!
I get what you’re saying about the metal folding roof Harry but it would not be as elegant roof up without it.
Cracking video as usual thanks.
