Mancano le parole. Quel fraseggio, legato ,esplosioni di coloratura , emozioni senza fermata, non ci sono parole. Impossibile non piangere ad ascoltare bel canto di questo calibro.!! Ci tengo tantissimo a Callas, Divina,unica assoluta ❤❤❤❤❤

Viene voglia di piangere già dalle prime tre parole. Architettura di fraseggio unica e spettacolare, controllo del respiro come nessuna, legati, smorzati, trilli e acuti da pelle d'oca, diaframma d'acciaio, estensione vocale funambolica. E poi la passione, la tenerezza, pioggia di delicata dolcezza, interpretazione inimitabile. Lezioni di coloratura. Inarrivabile Maria. Scolpita nell'eternità.
A miraculous meeting of voice and intention. Lucia s madness, her moodswitches, her despair, her hopes, her aspirations and deceptions expressed with an intensity never equalled. Callas ability to transmit emotions with that particular voice of her s is still unmatched. Her aerial view of this aria, the keeping in constant flow, never relishing in intensity and stamina, the coloratura beeing expressions of joy, madness, saness, the colouring of the voice, the thousand and one little details and yet never losing the whole view of the mad scene is unique. And in 1952 she could outsing anyone...a miracle never to be repeated, not even by herself.....
Your not listening closely - she is actually vocally acting, not just with her technique, dynamics, and declamation alone.
This early recording of the Mad Scene live in Mexico is fascinating to listen to for many reasons. The fact that the voice is so very Sfogato is I think one of the second most reasons this is amazing. The first being that the pathos and agility and staccatti and arpeggio are so very true and coloratura. It is like a dramatic soprano and Hilda Guden in one voice. Callas really did learn the coloratura technique on her very big voice ( from De Hildago) and it really made it so much better in so many ways and dimensions. The vocal tone is not always terribly pretty nor is always easy on the ears. But overall it it's metallic intensity and dark hues allied with her acuti etc are extraordinary. I think this made her unparallelled in the works of Verdi and Bellini. Her Traviata and Norma are almost impossible to beat. This aspect of coloratura technique and natural metallic Greek tone also made her overwhelming as a Tosca.
When Callas was good she was the best! It is as a coloratura in the bel canto repertoire that she most amazes and moves me .Callas could and did sing anything well in her hey day but it is in the bel canto that nobody could touch her!
You don't listen Lily Pons version 😉 bye bye Callas. Lily Pons was a real and great coloratura soprano

Sometimes people get engaged in the concept of a beautiful voice or a great technique - those are good things to have of course, but IMHO Opera requires way more than just a beautiful voice or a perfect technique. An outstanding singer is the one that communicates the feeling and the meaning of each word convincingly. Maria here is telling a story of suffering, of happiness, of dreams, she has an altered mind. She moves through multiple feelings w an outstanding agility and make them credible

Opera is also a visual medium as well as audible. I disagree that Maria has accomplished moving me as Lucia, but her technical prowess is commendable.

Callas' voice as a thick woman was so heavy and huge, it could move furniture! The crazy part is that regardless of her having the heaviest voice of recorded history, she also had the most precise coloratura and craziest agility on top of that. She has been the only Lucia of recorded history, there hasn't been another one.
chosentenore chosentenore wow! Move furniture! You should be a music writer/critic! I love your family assessment of her talent. Someone once called her the "great ugly voice" I like that but it only begins to touch in her greatness. You have Nailed it!
Don't know about furniture, but word has it she was notorious for pulsating chandeliers and Meneghini with her voice :)

sutherland es quien es...en la historia de la musica................para todos los tiempos..................aunque usted diga.................con insultos...........catalogaciones animalisticas...............hacia una mujer......que bien guapa que fue..........en su momento joven y potente........pero que para mi lo fue siempre hasta el final de sus dias.....................incluso hasta el caballo es el mejor ejemplo que se puede tener..hacia un ser humano.......................un ser extraordinario.............el caballo.................es de lo mas bello..........y si sutherland.es un caballo...........para usted..para mi........................es una manada de caballos................lo mas hermoso.........correr.libremente.................por todo el terreno......sin que alguien pueda controlarlo.................

y esto era en 1952.....cuando se suponía tenia que estar en el mejor de los momentos.....ahí queda eso........sin dejar de ser una versión buena.....no es precisamente la panacea del belcanto ni de cerca.....;a mi CALLAS como de las mejores...en verismo la mejor....pero en belcanto.....de las mejores pero para mi gusto es un segundo puesto belcantista....y todos saben quien era y es la numero uno....y no la nombro ...porque las pasiones las levante cada uno desde su propio pensamiento.....
Wash your ears and listen again, or study belcanto, as you might not know what it is ;-)

Je préfère largement la version de Lily Pons à écouter en urgence 😉
C'est votre avis. Lily Pons que j'aime beaucoup, a fait tout au long de sa carrière étalage de ses dons vocaux avec musicalité certes mais sans aucun sens de l'expression, de la caractérisation des rôles qu'elle interprétait. Elle disait "Ma voix est comme le son d'une flûte, pas besoin de forcer pour l'entendre!". Cela en dit long!
@@ioSonoCallas Je vous remercie pour votre avis, au vu de votre pseudo vous êtes une grande admiratrice de Callas, ce qui peut se comprendre au vu de ses qualités de soprano, mais Callas elle même s'entraînait à la chanter sur les chansons de Lily Pons quand elle était petite, apparemment pour elle c'était un exemple à suivre. Pour en revenir à la question cette magnifique interprétation de Lucia di lammermoor alors oui Callas la chante très bien mais à tout ceux à qui j'ai fait écouté la version de Lily Pons (la version du film où elle chante en public) et à mon entourage de mélomanes ils sont unanimes, la version de Lily Pons dépasse de loin celle de Callas, mais juste parce que s'en doute Lily Pons exploitait un registre qui était (peut être) et hors de portée pour Callas. Callas était une magnifique soprano Lily Pons était une coloratura soprano hors pair avec Mado Robin qui était rappelons-le la voix la plus haute du monde. Ces 2 femmes pouvaient faire des choses que d'autres ne pouvaient pas, y compris à l'époque d'aujourd'hui, elles restent irremplaçable ! Et une toute petite dernière pensée pour ma soprano de cœur c'est Deanna Durbin dont chaque note qu'elle pouvait chanter était une passion et une émotion à elle seule. Il suffit de la voir chanter l'Ave Maria pour comprendre ce que je dis (surtout à la fin de sa chanson) l'émotion et extrêmement palpable et vous la transmet sans effort. Aucune soprano passée n'avez réussi cet exploit à ce niveau d'intensité. Passez une bonne journée.
