Edit/Update: By Post Op Day 17 I was able to go back down to my prescribed amount of Calcium without issue. I also soaked my steristrips with soap and water and removed them after being directed to do so by my doctor.
Calcitriol is pronounced Calci-TRY-ol... not how I was pronouncing it haha

Thank you so much for posting this video. Watching this made me cry but in a good way. It’s so hard to relate to someone sometimes but this really helped me. I just got my thyroid removed and it’s been a rollercoaster ride. I appreciate you putting all your videos up. You are an Angel 🤍🤍
thank you so much for sharing your recovery experiences! me and my wife got a lot of mental support from your sharing.
My mom has thyroid nodules like 3 so she need to do a biopsy on those nodules kinda worried please everyone pray for my mom that the results comes out well. 🙏🙏
Special regards to Dr iyaremoses on UA-cam, after using his herbal medication as prescribed, I got completely cured from hypothyroidism reach out to him for your permanent cure
I’m the same , terrified of needles and the outcome , then still need it removed, hope things with your mum go ok x
I just had a biopsy today, and fingers crossed, all is OK for me and your mother .
I’m having biopsies next week I have 3 nodules and 2 lymph nodes feeling a little stressed too but will be positive that all will be well thank you for your video how are you finding living without your thyroid

Thank you !! It's so awesome you shared this - it's helped me to come to terms w/upcoming surgery ....
Thank you so much for posting this. Going to have thyroid surgery soon and this was very helpful.
Thanks for the update this really helps me to get prepared for my surgery.
Thanks for this video. That was very kind of you. I’m going to have a thyroidectomy in early March and I’ve been a little apprehensive. I have thyroid cancer and I hope there has not been a spread so that they won’t have to remove any lymph nodes. We don’t know yet as I just had a CAT scan that will provide additional information. Your video has helped me understand that recovery is not too onerous. Thanks again.
Thankyou so much for your informative and educational videos. You bring up things I didn’t even know about….calcium levels. Lip/finger tingling, neck mobility energy levels. Even though the surgery is in the neck it really effects the entire body! Really appreciate all you put into these thyroid vids. Doc tells me I need to get this done sooner than later ( due to Hyperthyroidism)and I’m honestly to scared AF! Having your vids to watch and learn from is definitely easing that anxiety ….a little bit lol. Thanks Again!
I have not been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism but I do have a nodule with a cyst and I am scheduled for my thyroidectomy on April 3rd. All of your videos have been so helpful to me. I am feeling a little calmer for this to happen. I also suffer with major anxiety and major depression. So we'll see. Thank you so much again for sharing your experience with us. Prayers welcomed.
I hope your surgery went well! I am also having mine removed because of a nodule as well in May. How do you feel now?
I just had my left thyroid removed on May 18th. Still hoarse at times, stiff neck and tired, my pain is manageable thank God. Praying for healing and a speedy recovery and to get some energy.
I cannot tell you how helpful your series of videos are to me. My enlarged thyroid was discovered accidentally in tests following a fall. The news that my thryroid had to be removed came as a surprise and I failed to ask all my questions when I had the surgeon's time. All the little details you include and the day by day post op has given me a better idea of what to expect, and lots of tips on how to prepare. Thank you so much for sharing. Your information was well organized and well presented. All the best to you with your new baby!
Thank you for your kind words and I'm so happy it was helpful to you!

Thanks so much for posting this video! It's made the process seem a lot less daunting.

Thank you for the videos and your great info. I was just diagnosed with thyroid cancer and I’m nervous about the removal. You helped relieve my anxiety. Thank you!!!

I have had a totally different experience with my thyroid surgery. I had very little pain and major exhaustion for the first 6 weeks. I’m two months post op and the energy levels are much better. My voice still sounds very hoarse. I noticed that your voice didn’t seem to be affected by your surgery. Glad you are doing well.
Thanks for your comment Dot, I hope your voice gets back to normal soon. I definitely felt that the anesthesia affected me for weeks, but thankfully I was able to get back into normal life shortly after!
I am very nervous for my wife's upcoming thyroidectomy. She is nursing our newborn and worried about disrupting that schedule. I also want to be there for her in the hospital. Watching your post-op videos and 1-year update helped me more than you could imagine. Thank you very much for sharing
That makes me so happy! Thank you for sharing
Thanks for posting, I'm having mine removed in 2 weeks and was wondering what to expect
I had parathyroid removal, and this was very helpful for issues around my incision. Thank you.
I just had my total thyroidectomy surgery on 1st June. My calcium was super low after 2 days of surgery. Hands and feet are cramping bad. Had to go to ER to get my electrolytes back up. still sore near the surgery stitches. taking one day at a time. I hope the hypocalcemia part goes away soon. Also I am feeling colder than usual. When I had graves pre surgery, I was feeling hot all the time. Now the fridge water seems super cold. I guess I have to deal with being hypo now. Thank you for posting your journey I felt bit consolation that there are other's like me with same condition.
I have been doing the hyperthyroidism/methimazole routine for a year now and tbh, I am just ready to be done with all these constant fluctuations. Your videos have really inspired me, and I think I may talk to my endocrinologist about TT.
Thank you for sharing information ❤
I had a total thyroidectomy and your video helped sooooooooo, soooooo much thank you. It took away the fear and helped me prepare for my journey. Thank you so much. It's my 8th day and I still have to keep recovering but I'm cooking and moving my neck after the 4th day. My doctor was amazing doctor david bimstin. What a wonderful doctor. The surgery was a success and I can't wait to get back to the gym and my normal life. Thank you so much again for making this video, you gave me strength ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words!
do you feel any tired, brain fog or depression? thanks

Thank you for this. Getting a total thyroidectomy December 29th. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease at the end of October and I am a carrier for hashimoto's. Found all of this out while my bf and I were in the middle of our IVF journey. So needless to say, my thyroid issues put the kibosh on that for now. Hoping to have my IVF procedure next month.
Best of luck to you!
@@thehappyartichoke3012 Thank you. It went Very well😊
Thank you for your video. My wife is currently in the OR for her total thyroidectomy + neck dissection. Been trying to find any information on how to make her life easier post op.
What kind of food where you able to eat in the first few days? Soft food only?
And aside from the neck stiffness and hypocalcemia symptoms, how were your energy levels?
Had 2 biopsies on 6/22/23. Yesterday 6/29/23 I was told the results were cancer. I’m here looking to educate and prepare myself for what’s to come. We do (as humans) draw strength from each other. So I’ll take yours and run with it 😊
Update: 11/22/2023
Had my RAi I-131 on November 2nd. It’s tough. 2 weeks prior to it, I had to be on a low iodine diet. Essentially no milk products, no chocolate, no bread, no sea food of any kind (including sea items). The whole body scan was good. Only a trace amount out thyroid tissue was identified right on the bed of my scar. Dr says in 6 months (when I have my 2nd scan it should be completely gone. Strange enough is that on day 2 I started having episodes where I literally glow all over my face and ears. Happened yesterday at my dr office too. The nurse got spooked. They don’t know why. I’m seeing the nuclear medicine doctor next week. I hope he DOES know why. I get red and hot in the face in a weird way. My suggestion to anyone doing RAi……be patient and be prepared. Comfy clothes and pillows. A LOT of hydration.
This is a great attitude, thank you for this. I’m going in for a lobectomy on Monday and will try to harness this
Wishing you the best outcome
Same here. Biopsy two weeks ago, found out last week I have thyroid cancer. Having my thyroid removed towards the end of the month.
Wishing you all the best

Thank you for your video my husband is currently in surgery and I wanted to understand what's coming next and you've help me alot. I do want to ask food wise what's best to eat? Soups and soft foods?
Thank you for the information I was diagnosed and then a month later covid hit. So all of my doctor appointments turned into phone appointments. The first doctor I had was horrible. Now I have another doctor who just referred me to a surgeon. It's almost at two years and I am ready to have my thyroid removed.
I wish you the best of luck!! Good job finding another doctor that was better for you!

Yes, I have been on 20mg carbimazole for 3 years now, I keep getting text messages to go for a blood test, but I never get any feedback, despite asking. In March I was phoned and told that the GP didn't need to see me for a year.

No pain whatsoever but overwhelming tiredness

Re wounds guys, vaseline is the answer it will relieve everything.
Hopefully in another week or so you will start having more energy - the medications during surgery can make you really tired!

Hi I had a thyroidectomy 4.5 weeks ago,I have tightness in my throat area did you experience that. Thanks for this video
I remember feeling that for a few weeks after surgery, as well as feeling very sore in my neck and upper back.
Hello.. Did you have any issues after the surgery? Like mood swings, weight gain, hair loss, etc?
I am booked in for thyroidectomy due to Graves . I also have TED and need surgery for that too as have constant double vision . I’m still contemplating declining surgery and staying on ATD long term .. I’m so anxious and worried that taking levo for life will make me fat , bone loss and fatigue . There are risks with ATD too .. how are you now as it’s been a while since your surgery ?
I am taking calcitrol 0.5 twice a day but my tingling is still there. You mentioned you take it 3 times a day? For how long more? I’m on Day 5 post op.
After that which cream to use for reducing scar?
Sleeping elevated what did you used, all of my pillows are kind soft and not good for elevating
Hello! How do you feel nowadays?
Hi, dou gain weight after the surgery? Hows your weight now? Is it controlled?
How long after your surgery were you able to go back to work. Did you work full time or part time prior to this surgery?

I had mine left part taken one day ago. Today 2nd day. Bit sore. Could not breathe at first. Took hot drink to help.
What are the sypmtoms you have when you diagnosed Graves disease??
I had trouble gaining weight/muscle, was hot all the time, had a big goiter on my neck (lump), had heart palpitations/racing heart, and my blood pressure and heart rate were higher than normal
I'm nearly 6 months after thyroidectomy. All went well - thanks God - but I can't settle with tingling. It comes and goes. So frustrating...
I found out I had to get my thyroid removed 3 days before finding out I was pregnant. So my surgery got pushed back. I have to wait till after I give birth. I’m so ready for this thing to be out. My neck looked exactly like yours. It’s hard for me to breathe and I hate how my neck looks

do you have to sleep recline or lay flat the day you arrive home from surgery? thanks
Hi! From what I remember you can do what is most comfortable for you. I remember laying in a reclined position the first few nights and flat after that. Hope that helps!
Did you get RAI treatment. If so would you recommend this treatment to others? Thanks.
Am cured from hypothyroidism with the help of herbal remedies, from dr iyaremoses on UA-cam channel ☺️.
I did not, I took the option to get my thyroid surgically removed so that I could try as quickly as possible to get pregnant (the RAI treatment would have been a slightly longer process).

Can we teach properly after thyroid removal?
How long after the surgery you can exercise normally? It's been 10 days since my thyroidectomy and i can only walk around 25 minutes and do some mild movement stretching... beyond that i get tired

Hello! I believe it took me about 4-6 weeks to feel "normal" at my workouts. It really took over 2 weeks to even feel like I had energy to start walking!
@@thehappyartichoke3012 thank you for replying 🙏 same here! Around 5 weeks!
How did you sleep ( incline position ? ) and did you need help to get up and out from bed? My surgery is coming up so I’m getting more anxious and thinking of everything and how to cope with afterwards 😅
Great question. I slept on the couch the first night or two in a sitting up position with pillows propping me, because I found my neck too sore to support my head as I got up from bed.
Does everyone gain weight after surgery?
I just had a partial yesterday. I didn’t notice until I got home that I have 5 rows of two, what looks like little pin pricks. I’m thinking maybe it was an electrode needle. I’m gonna ask my doctor at my follow up why I have those pricks on my chest. Did you have any marks when you had yours out?
I don't think so, but I wonder if you had some electrodes on and they irritated your skin? Based on the 5 rows of two it's a possibility!
My doctor has me down for a thyroid ultrasound tomorrow because heart is running between 90s and 130s. I'm getting worried about what happens tomorrow.
Good luck!

Hello I have thyroid problem and I'm scared for surgery
Totally understand that. Surgery is scary. I prefer having more knowledge so I can make informed decisions - some people like less so they don't have more things to worry about. I wish you the best!
I hope you have your levothyroxine dose dialed in now. I had my surgery last year and lost my voice for over 3 months. Still getting my medication dose dialed in.
So sorry you lost your voice for so long. It took me about 6 months to get my medication dose dialed in, but pregnancy threw it for another loop :)
Thank you.😊
Do you have to take the calcium tablet as well for the rest of your life?
Hello! My surgeon told me that I did not need to, but as a woman my endocrinologist recommended continuing it because we are at risk for osteoporosis and brittle bones as we age. For me, it was the right decision to continue my calcium - but you might find that it's not necessary for you. I did not need to take the calcitriol for very long after surgery. I hope that helps!
