You've got the best stuff! "Fiery" sure describes Sid's sound. He put his heart and soul into his playing. Nice to hear Charlie Holmes on the second take. They employ the Harry James trumpet tag, so it could actually be "Two O'Clock Jump."
As always I’m very glad you enjoyed it. Your “Two O’clock Jump” suggestion is interesting. I had forgotten about that riff. So, this set by Bechet was recorded in January’39, his Victor recording was February and the James Brunswick was March with James credited as composer. Was the riff employed by someone earlier? I’m puzzled. 🤔
The Bechet Victor 27204 attributes the song to Count Basie. However, your observation is spot on with the ride out riff that Harry James employed that revised the tune to "Two O'clock Jump." Good catch!
@@daveytough8112 Yeah, it's Basie's song, alright. I wasn't being nitpicky, just making reference to Harry's riff, whose inclusion actually kind of surprised me.
The musical advantage that the Victor recording had was the presence of Kenny Clarke. “Klook” provided another level of swing that made the recording a perfect 10.

Oops, my bad! Bechet was 1940! No dilemma!

@@Trombonology Didn't think you were nitpicky, I actually had forgotten about the riff and thought it was used by Basie.
Interesting to compare it to the Victor...great music!!
