I must think this is one of the strangest Ken's Karpentry I have ever seen, but it was a whole lot of fun. I have been around since the Lumnah Acres build, so WOW!
I have about 30,000 miles on my converted ebike(s). I use to do all sorts of variations with diy parts. You can convert an older full suspension (highly recommended) mountain bike and be all in for under $800, with a decent kit and battery. I use mine for errands in town, it's still very satisfying to use even after 12 years of riding. I use to and still do ride on an off road normal bikes, but the ebike is king for transportation.
Great video Ken. I have had a Himi Cruiser for almost 2 years now and love mine. I did some upgrades to mine that I feel were definitely worth their cost. First I replaced the mechanical brake calipers with Catazer MTB Road XTECH cable actuated hydraulic calipers. I bought the cheap ones online and they work so great that I bought a second set while their price was so low. I replaced my seat with a better gel seat after doing a long rails to trails ride and found the original saddle not so great after 30 miles. I then replaced the front shock/fork assembly with a Bucklos Fat Tire bike air shock that has an air piston in one shock and the adjustable spring in the other shock of the fork assembly. This made a giant improvement when riding over large bumps. The original shock would bottom out and top out with a hard knock while the air shock has a super soft bottoming and toping out. Last, I replaced my seat post with a Zoom shock absorbing seat post to further soften the bumps that transferred up thru my spine. I'm 68 years old and really enjoy the comfort of my Cruiser with these changes both on hard surfaces and off on trails and now feel its better than bikes that are more than twice the price. Here's to good riding !!
Thanks Bruce. That’s interesting. Sounds like you know your stuff. I’ll remember that. I’ll have to pick warmer days to use mine. It gets chilly even at 20 mph going down the road.
Ken that bike brought out the little boy in you like your first bike. Love watching the thrill that bike gave you it is priceless. I remember my second bike it was a schwinn with the slick in the back and the little tire in the front. I had it for two days and someone stole it on me. It broke my heart for many years.I noticed a Kid I went to school had one just like it. I always wondered if his brother stole it on me. I figure someday Karma would deal with him if he did steal it. Thanks for sharing...
Ken, I’m catching up on videos I haven’t watched yet. I try to watch every time they come out, but life gets busy. I so enjoyed this so much, now I want one too. I have two regular bikes so a friend can join me. Haven’t done that either. I’m 67, and I so need to exercise some more so I can go snow shoe. We received a ton of snow in Tahoe. I kept cracking up every time you said “eh”. THEN YOU SAID YOU WEREN’T FROM CANADA!! I busted out laughing. You’re so funny. Hey Lauren! Always good to see you. She’s the sweetest. Carry on ☺️ Just me.
Reminds me of me (66) buzzing around the property on my quad. I feel like I’m 20 until I hit the large bumps that transfer directly to my back.😂 Great video Ken, keep having fun!
Nice Ken! Donuts! It looks like a lot of fun! My son is a bike messenger and his person powered winter bike has fat tires and he added fenders too! His fenders are the molded plastic ones too. I'm so glad you have enjoyed the bike! I've seen several You Tube people getting these. I'm so glad you got one too! I hope they gave it to you for a major discount. It's great that they even included the tools to put it together. Is it a USB charge port? I like the hat! Pretty easy assembly. That's a quick release wheel so you can take it with you to deter people from stealing your bike. I like the white stripe on the tires. Thanks for this video Ken!
Just like a kid in a candy store, love your excitement! Congratulations on the e-bike and be careful, the older you get, the more it hurts when you fall! I’m 58 and just got back on my Schwinn mountain bike (2022) that I’ve had since I was 18! Fun times ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
E-bikes are awesome. One thing to be aware of if you ride off-road in trails are thorns. Thorns will puncture the tires pretty easily but you buy "self healing" slime tubes to reduce a chance of a flat.
You're going to have fun with your bike ,Ken . My friend bought one a few years ago and I bought mine about a year ago . Let's you get as much exercise as you want ,but if you get tired you have battery power . Enjoy your bike !
I gotta say... if I were just a few years younger I would really consider getting one of these. Those tires are really impressive. If I still had my RV that would be perfect. Looking forward to more Ken Himiway adventures! 😀 PS: Your assembly detail is priceless. 👍
You have inspired me Ken ! I am 70 too and been thinking about one lately, well if you can I can !!!! Thanks for all your videos ! Oh by the way you also inspired me to get a Drone license and I don't even have a Drone yet !!!
Haha nice. You’re pain s more populated area where a drone license is more necessary. A couple more months and I’ll hit 70. That’s not very old anymore.
All your videos are so enjoyable and I can learn something from everyone of them you have a special touch for what ever you do I hope to see you on the bike on your other channel Thanks
I loved it Ken and was so glad to see my friend Bob enjoying his new tech bike I bet you now get sightings of Big Foot on there e bikes all through the woods thanks to you and the people of HIMIWAY.
So I have a fat tire ebike. I put flat out goo in my tires for reduce of flats. Lots of road construction and such here. For the winter I lowered my max psi about 10 since the cargo and myself are kind of heavy. Lower the psi to get more grip, but honestly with knubby tires they did good. They were 20 inch by 3.5. I couldn't find stud tires, however snow chains from place in Colorado. Good to get a range test. I am 40% of max range. So if it says 60 miles I would get 24 miles. For my green trail min elevation. 12 miles 1 way. I would have to charge up at work. I like the cruiser style more upright riding.
Ken, I too have an ebike but not a wide tire snow model. Living in Minnesota one would be amazed how many older (60+) fat tire ebike riders there are here in Minnesota. Much better workout for us retired contractors than a snowmobile and alot safer. Have fun, what a great thing to do in the slow construction season.
Great Video. Always love to see people having fun on new bicycles. Just like to point out one thing: You need to raise your seat-your leg should be almost straight when the pedal is “at the bottom”. The way you have it will put a lot of stress on your knees when you pedal.
There is 3 or 4 guys in the town I live in that do home repairs that have lost their drivers licenses from DUIs. One guy actually pulls a little trailer with tools/materials. My cousin calls them the bicycle construction company. I have noticed that they are riding electric bikes now.
Ken in the past HOBOTEC on UA-cam did some posting on his bike about the tubeless tires and seat changes. I’ve never seen anyone do snow. Be safe. Have fun and enjoy.
I love that bike, it's awesome! I live up in the Greens myself and could definitely see myself riding around here and back into the National and State Forests here. Cheers!
Looks like fun especially when the weather turns nice. I'm in a NYC suburb and see a lot of them around here. The city itself is full of them, food delivery drivers all use them. Great for short shopping trips and general puttering around.
No problem my friend, i love your videos n wish i was younger n lived closer ! Might be able to be a helping hand !!!!!! Just a video watcher , so wish you the best my friend !!!!-!👍👍👍👍
I am 73 with a replacement knee. I bought my ebike 3 years ago after the surgery. It actually gives me a better workout than my conventional bike did because I can ride a lot further. I still pedal and mostly just use assist level 1 on our flat rail trail. One thing I will mention about charging the battery. The instructions on my bike say to always plug the charger into the battery first and then into the wall socket. Do the reverse when disconnecting the charger- unplug from the wall socket first and then the battery. Enjoy!
That is really cool. Impressed with how you put that together without reading the instructions. If you ride it the opposite of how you went to school, when you were a kid, to your houseyou can ride it 10 miles downhill. One last comment... I wonder if there will be a new channel for e-biking with Ken? Helmet and handlebar mounts and off we go. Oh, and don't forget to bring along your drone. 👍🚲
Great video...loved your playfulness Ken and enjoyed an appearance by your lovely daughter. She is a jewel. You are not a bad Fat Tire driver, hey, for an American. Cdns are use to driving in snow in July lol

Oh my goodness...Ken is having an age crisis. I'd like a motorcycle, but old enough to know my old ass does not belong on anything two wheels. I'm afraid that Ken is forgetting just how long it takes to recover from injuries. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Ken. Good luck!

There were several times when you were sitting on the bike that the rear tire looked like the tire pressure was too low. @23:20 the low pressure really shows.
Heyy, having some fun, ah? What a machine.. It stands a little wide though.. almost as a motorcycle.. actually, it is a motorcycle. A hybrid which works on fossil fuels (if you consider charging it from the grid, it works on bread and ham or chicken and potatoes, it works on elektricity, it goes also solar, if you have a solar charging.. Let's say pretty "univerzalni". 😉 I'm only concerned a bit about you not falling on snow, since you have some health issues.. Be careful though, you have only one set of "components".. 😇 Keep on, enjoy the fun in a safe way!
Can’t say I’ve seen the electric model of fat tire bikes up here but the fat tire bikes are out there. BTW they sell studded tire for the fat bikes now. Get some extra traction 😳👍

Ken Thank you for that demo, I think you are a really fun guy and it would be a pleasure to work for you
Yes it is quite a machine. Pretty cool. Thank you
