Astarion rare dialogue about Sorcerer and anti-magic field | All dialogue options

- I finally found some new dialogue - for me- in my 3rd playthrough. I am not sure if this is specific to sorcerer or it applies for wizards too or other spell-casters. I know I didn't encounter it at least as a druid or ranger.
Tell me if you've seen this before and what class are you playing. I am also interested in other dialogues that might be rare.
I see rare Astarion dialogue, I click. Neil really knocked it out the park with his performances
Apparently this is a sorcerer only dialogue. At least from what I've seen from other comments no other class seems to get it. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I agree and I hate Astarion as a character, just not my type of character. The dialogue is clever though and the VA nailed it.
@@WitchHekateplaying with storm sorcerer had the same thing, but was travelling with SH Gale and Wyll, got some dialogue about it with one of them instead actually, I wonder how it chooses who
@@WitchHekate, got it with a Warlock, a bard, a cleric and a warrior in the party...
It's not that these exchanges are especially rare, it's more that people very often just don't interact with their party enough, especially outside camp.
@@404DannyboyI hate you as a character
I also got this as a Draconic Sorcerer. Karlach told me to stay behind her, and until it came back, she'd protect her "poor powerless pal." I was curious what would happen in a run with a friend, but neither his Wizard nor my Druid got anything. So it might be Sorcerer only? Kinda cool, honestly.
Sorcerers are born with their magic. It's as much a part of them as an arm or a leg. Unlike wizards and bardswho learn it, druids who meditate on the power of nature, or clerics and warlocks who get it from some other entity.
@@vincentwinqvist4023 yes this. I'm glad it's confirmed it's sorcerer only though. I can't be sure how closely to dnd Larian follows the lore. It's even better now.
@@WitchHekatethey have a couple big Fuck ups like calling the Nightsong an aasimar
It effects other magic users too.. like Shadowheart as a cleric.
I didn't get that as a bard either, although Astarion is dead (truly dead, not undead-dead :P ) in my playthrough, but if it's sorcerer-only, then his death is probably irrelevant.
Bro "Is this guy bothering you?"-ed the sussur flower
1:20 "It took your power and your sense of humour? How wretched." 🤣 had me lmao when I got it in early access. Was so happy they kept it in.
IS THE PLANT BOTHERING YOU QUEEN?
I got this with Wyll, he said something along the lines of “even if your magic never comes back, you’re still part of our group, we’d never abandon you and you’re still a formidable fighter” or something to the same point
I love how well neil performs this voice acting. it's just so good. He really nailed having just a hint of actually dropping the facade and showing how worried he actually is under everything.
I smuggled it out by putting it in a gilded chest then putting it in my inventory on Laezel, and later in the series I put the Baldur Great Sword and Hill Giant gloves on her making her do massive damage and hard counter magic characters by jumping towards them with Gith jumping + disarming them so they have to fight with fists and no magic.
That's a very good idea. Inspiring
I'm not that far into act 2 but I smuggled out 5 and have been using Astarion (cause of bonus action and high initiative) to lay down an antimagic perimeter on some fights.
That's genius
they break in Daylight so put them in a box
@@jonduffin7560
I've considered doing something like that, putting a flower or two on a pure martial as a hard magic killer. I collected all the flowers I could find in case they might be usable for quests (like the bark for the susser dagger) or other crafting and sent them to the camp chest and realized whenever I walked past the chest that it was still affecting me even though it was inside the chest. There are a few items that do this throughout the game.
Our boy really out here like, "I'm here for the emotional support fireballs."
What's interesting is the last part of the dialogue seems to hint that the effect was going to be more prominent, like an entire area where you couldn't use magic. Instead its just a passing curiosity.
There is a mission with the flower, though it’s kinda minor.
Without getting too spoilery, there's another optional quest not too far from that area that requires you to carry at least one of the flowers in your pack, with the anti-magic field moving with you while it's in your pack. This cutscene happens whenever a Sorcerer enters a Sussar flower's field for the first time, not just the big sussar tree, and that particular line makes a lot more sense if you get it in the other location.
The flowers also disable the robots at the top of the nearby tower when they're near one. I was hoping they could also disable the steel watchers later in the game, but the flower wilts outside of the underdark.
I love hearing how he cares about the MC.
Got this dialogue as a Warlock, too [EDIT: This seems to only have happened in EA.]. I wish it were a tiny bit different if you had romanced him - maybe a flirtatious remark, turning his usual dialogue around a bit like "Oh well. At least you are still pretty." or "Be glad I only travelled with you for your good looks to begin with" - I don't know, just something that shows that early-stage-romanced Astarion is still very much teasing Tav but offering the slightest bit of comfort with his words, in his own sassy way.
I didn't get this as a worlock
Was that in early access? Warlocks don't seem to get it anymore
@@WitchHekate Oh, that's weird - maybe I am confusing things? Yes, I did play the early access version, so maybe I am misremembering , but I could have sworn that I got the dialogue option as a warlock even now on full release. In EA I usually played a cleric and got it there, too. I don't want to spread any misinformation so judging from the other comments, I must have misremembered and confused my memories of the EA with the current state of the game. Apologies!
@@dominika3762 I commented on OP's same question to my original comment down below (not sure if you get notified of that reply here on youtube), so I will just copy and paste my answer here again :): I did play the early access version, so maybe I am misremembering , but I could have sworn that I got the dialogue option as a warlock even now on full release. @@WitchHekatemy first character was warlock and I still got that scene with astarion
I reached act two and created new characters for one. I was compelled to begin a playthrough as Astarian and seeing his joy at his first moments in the sun is cute. I think it’ll be very interesting to play as him
That's my goal for my next playthrough
I also got one with Karlach...she's really sweet about it. Basically she said she'll protect me until I learn to swing a sword
My favourite part of this video is how well edited the multiple options are. So concise. It has flow. Well done!
Thank you
I swear, Blood Money hitting a 50k gold target hurts less than that one response from Astarion
Honestly I expected him to say something along the lines of "This plant bothering you? Want me to get rid of it?? Because I can."
Interestingly, this dialogue is coded for any first time a sorcerer touches the sussur aura. I saved a bunch of blooms in camp and in act 3 accidentally had my wyll (who dipped into sorc) trigger this cutscene immediately. It was funny because other party members would be talking about the underdark still
Oh yea, you want the dialogue but don't have a sorcerer? Just respec someone and you'll get it. Take the companion that you're interested in hearing his/her comments
How'd you get the flowers to stay in tact through act 3? Don't they wither outside of the underdark?
@@Potte shoved em in camp lol
@@JPXtorsion Mine still seem to go bad oddly enough....I never took it out of the box, not even once and it wilted.
@@StudlyFudd13 same here. seems like a bug one way or the other
Thank you for editing this the way you have, makes it much quicker to see the results of the other lines of dialogue :)
aw thanks! I was actually thinking of maybe changing it for my other videos and having the full interaction with what would be my choices and then adding the rest of the choices. I feel like it might break immersion for some scenes. Not this one, but some other more emotional scenes it looks maybe bad.
@@WitchHekate Personally, I don't care what order you pick it in, so long as you keep these rapid transitions that make seeing all the possible outcomes faster 😄 and I think most people would agree as well since generally people watch these clips to see what happens when you pick lines that they themselves didn't in their playthrough
I had Laezel comment there for me and I loved it how my Tav and her were snarking at each other 🤣
Why do I love this sassy vampire so much? Someone halp.
Because he is so extra you either hate him or love him 😂❤
When this happened, I was a Dragonborn Wild Magic Sorcerer. I didn't know this is a special thing with Sorcerers only.
first of all your character looks amazing
Aww thanks she looks awesome but I hate her lol she's mean..
it's so funny honestly, Faerun has magic that can change reality, summon angels or devils, stop time or kill a person with one word, but a lil blue flower supposedly just stops all of that
its a magic flower. Not that hard to wrap your head around.
@@grilledleeks6514 see that's what i dislike about soft magic systems, they're so woefully volatile
"it's a magic flower"
yes, that's the point, it makes the magic system less believable
@@AnnaTheFallMaiden 5e's magic system isn't really all that soft. The sussur flower is just an naturally occurring magic sucking fauna. Not unlike say... Gale's chest bomb, but clearly more of a nullifying agent than something volatile. I'm not sure how the existence of anti-magic sources in the world somehow means the rules don't matter when there's a literal God of Magic who has extremely hard and fast rules for who can cast what and when lol. I think you're just being dramatic here.
@@AnnaTheFallMaidenah the magic is hard to believe in the magic world. Cry me a river.
@@AnnaTheFallMaiden Being a little more explanatory (and hopefully polite) than the others,
The Sussur basically feeds on ambient magic around it, that's how it grows and survives. When you try to cast a spell around its vicinity, trying to manipulate the Weave, it's gonna feed on your attempt and the spell will fail. Magical items will also have their magic properties suppressed while in the vicinity of the Sussur, because it's feeding on it.
There are spells that have similar effects to this, it's not exactly unique to the Sussur.
With that said, it's the tree that has these properties, not the little flowers, but that was a bit of creative liberty on part of the devs (though not an implausible leap)
Ahahah! Oh man I'm slowly getting converted, he grows on you like a weed! He acts aloof but goes "please don't die 😢" the instant anyone is hurt! 😆
Hmm I was a draconic sorcerer and had this dialogue but I was semi romancing Astarion with good approval at this point, like a hate to love relationship. So this was quite fitting for my playthrough. 😂
I feel like even if i kept the same party members the whole playthrough there would still be dialogue that i miss
Sometimes I reload a scene just to see if there's other reactions I missed.
Kind of sad I didn’t get this because I also had Wyll in my party… but Wyll meowed so it was worth it.
he..meowed?
I think that if it’s Gale, he quacks.
LOL ASTARIONNN XD
I didn't get this dialogue but if I did I would be heartbroken cuz I already romanced him at this point of game lol
me too. I expected a different dialogue for romance vs non romance but no
I was early on in my romance with him when he said this and it only endeared him more to me lol I love his teasing.
I actually saw this the other night when I was playing, funny to just see it pop up here
I excluded him from the cazador final mission and he was so pissed he said once the elder brain is dealt with he is leaving the group.
it's like he has to get the last word in I hate him so much 😭(i can only romance him no matter how hard i try not to)
i got this one by being a sorcerer and storing one of the flowers in one of the camps where the chest is near Astarion
I thought that this dialog was removed when I played for warlock, but I tried to change it to a sorcerer and it worked, so the dialog is connected only with a sorcerer)
It seems so. Other people playing spellcasters seem to confirm this. It makes total sense. Sorcerers are the only ones who have been born with magic in them. Others usually gain their powers from something or someone else.
I'd be surprised if this dialogue didn't happen for Wizards as well, since I've seen some Sorcerer/Wizard-specific dialogues be interchangeable. Something new to test out on my next run, then! ^^
I think this is specific for sorcerers only. They draw their magic from their bodies so the flower is sucking all that power out of them. Wizards siphon their power from the weave itself and thus they are not impacted the same way as there is not a reserve of magical energy within them that could be depleted.
@@nova_supreme8390 basically this. According to dnd lore sorcerers are born with magic, it flows in them. Wizards just learn how to handle it by studying and that's why they can also learn spells from scrolls. So it wouldn't surprise me if this was a sorcerer only interaction. Although if someone has played as a wizard I'd like to know if they get the same dialogue.
It's a no for wizard, I never saw this with my wizard character
@@nova_supreme8390 Ooh that's true, that makes sense with the dialogue option saying that it feels like they've lost a part of their body-- considering that it's genuinely taking the magic from within them. Thanks for the explanation ^^
I got the dialogue with Astarion and when I sent it to hoard at camp, had a cutscene with Gale. I forget exactly what he said but he was disconcerted for sure 😂
Damn shawty ok
I saw your Tav and just had to comment thats one good looking Tav 😅
Thanks! Although I am a bit scared of her. She's a maniac
It sounds like Astarion isn't romanced here, so I wonder if the dialogue is different if you're romanced?
It's the same for romanced. Has been since EA.
At this point in the game romanced or not, he’s kinda not really into you and is just seducing you for protection.
@@aerynstormcrow Yeah, a lot of early interactions make much more sense after he confesses.
He is romanced actually. It's just a generic dialogue. Your choices and romance or not dont matter
I'd like to see the flower do this after it gets a fireball blasted at it from outside it's range
The first time my friends an I found this flower, I used it with my barbarian fighter along with karlach and ran at anyone with magic and it was pretty bs. Sad its not forever haha
I just blew up the flower from a distance with ranged fired spells 🤷
I believe this also triggers for Wizards, including Gale.
It doesn't. They used to have it for arcane spellcasters in early access but now it's for sorcerers only. As it should be.
I got Karlach lines for my Wild magic sorc
it's random which companion will comment. To me it was also Shadowheart but I had to make her go sit in the corner cause I wanted the Astarion reaction.
oh... he was just joking... okay, just jokes ;__;
Performance issues, not uncommon. One in five…
I'm just tired ok
Neither as bard. I guess you must be a full spellcaster like druid, sorcerer, wizard and cleric
I played druid and ranger and didn't see it. Maybe as a wizard though, I'd like to know. It wouldn't be impossible to be only sorcerer cause sorcerers have their magic inherited unlike wizards who learn their magic. Maybe clerics? But no clerics get power from their gods. If I didn't get it on my druid that makes me think it's sorcerer only.
@@WitchHekate it turns of all types of magic alike doesn't matter what class
@@petergriffin9554 yes I know it turns off magic. I'm talking about the dialogue you get with Astarion
@@WitchHekate ahh, I think all companions are supposed to comment most did for me if it doesn't trigger thats probably a bug...
@@petergriffin9554 I don't think I had a cutscene in my other 2 playthroughs. Maybe they commented but not a whole cutscene with dialogue options. If it's supposed to happen though, I guess it bugged?
I wonder what the romanced version of this is like
This is the romanced version. It's same for both versions.
All this drama for just stepping 5 feet away from the flower and you can cast spell again ?
well you do get sweaty for a few seconds though, until you realize it's only when you're standing next to it and the effects aren't permanent.
Never got this dialogue as a wizard
Sorcerer only. Wizards learn to handle the weave and can learn magic, they're not born with it. Sorcerer is different.
I got this with Lazael, pretty funny banter
Ive saved all the blooms in my camp. Just dont put them into your inventory above ground. Another comment here noted they tossed them into a gilded chest then into the inventory. Also i didnt get this dialogue :(
Sorcerer only it seems.
ahhhhhhhh@@WitchHekate

@@WitchHekate Thank you so much! 🖤
I had that dialogue with Shadowheart.
What'd she say?
@@th0rne_999 For me it went something like:
"I'm sure it'll come back once we get away from here."
I hope you're right.
"Of course I am, you're not going to be undone by a flower, are you?"
@@th0rne_999 "Isn't magic your whole thing?"
Now I'm wondering how it will interact with chaos sorcerery. I made it here last night before going to sleep so I guess I'll find out. It would be funny if the flower blows up because my magic is unstable af.
All the options you have pretty much say the same. You'll probably choose to use your chaos and it will tell you "you get nothing"
@@WitchHekate that's kind of unfortunate I was hoping something crazy would happen. That's the fun of chaos sorcery, the other day it turned my entire party into cats for some reason lol
lol maybe I should try chaos it sounds fun. Try it out and tell me if there's something different in the scene although I doubt it I hope I'm wrong. The whole point in this scene is that magic doesn't work so if you're unable to use any kind of magic then chaos shouldn't have an effect either. That's just my logic.
Yeah, I got this with a chaos sorcerer and it was pretty much the same. Love this scene.
how does one trigger that? I just picked them up, no dialoge at all
you must be a sorcerer to trigger this (not wizards, warlocks or any other classes) the reason its that way is very interesting as it follows dnd lore closely, as you can see the comments above
@@socrative9810 ooooh okay. Thats a shame :( But thanks for sharing!
Nooo, it seems Shadowheart took Astarion’s spot in this dialogue for me so I missed out 😭😭😭
did for me too, I had to make her sit in the corner for this one
How does it decide who speak in that situation. I sent the flower back to camp and had similar dialogue with Karlach
It's one of the companions you have in your party, otherwise it's pretty random. I romanced Astarion but Shadowheart still stole his spot in this one. She's sitting in the corner now.
In wich act is this? Havent stumble upon a quest where i need to smuggle a sussur flower
Act 1, Underdark. You don't need to smuggle it really if we're talking about the arcane tower, there's one right in the yard.
You have to been sorcerer? Because I can't seem to activate this I'm my playthrough.
Sorcerer only unfortunately
So it's sorc only? I was wondering why I didn't get it again.
Sorcerer only
How is this rare? I bet he says this every time someone is playing Sorcerer
But not everyone plays sorcerer. This is my 3rd playthrough so anything that is tied to a specific class or race or event -to me at least- is pretty rare cause a wide range of people will never have the chance to hear it.
This is hardly rare dialogue. Sorcerer is one of the most popular classes and astarion is one of the most popular followers. The combination of being a sorcerer in the underdark with astarion alongside you is quite common
Is that an addon for face ?
my game is vanilla. one of the drow choices, don't remember which face.
Where it takes place?
Normally in the underdark, the first time you encounter an antimagic flower. This is near the sussur tree. Or any time you're next to an antimagic flower. Alternatively, if you don't have a sorcerer in the party and you want to get the scene, you can always pick up the flowers and send them to your camp, then respec someone into a sorcerer and go next to the flower. You will get the dialogue. Make sure you have the person you want to hear this interaction from in your party.
@@WitchHekate Thanks I will try it in next playthrough.
What armor is that?
Don't know what the PC is wearing but Astarion's is Drow Studded Leather armor. Location: Underdark - in between Selune's Fort and the tower, inside a chest at Lolth's Cultist's cache. X:83 Y:-207
@@saskia8018 thanks, the PC is the one I'm unfamiliar with though. I've seen it a few times on UA-cam now though.
My Tav's armour is called "The Graceful Cloth" 10AC, Cat's Grace +2 Dex, +1 to Dex Saving Throws, increase jump distance by 1.5m. I don't remember exactly where I found it. Maybe somewhere in mountain pass? Maybe
@@WitchHekate thanks!
