  • Here's the opening moments of an edition of Entertainment Tonight which spotlighted The Three Stooges receiving their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame the previous day (August 30th). The anchors are Ron Hendren and Mary Hart.
    Includes:
Opening, with previews of following items:
    - Stooges Walk of Fame
    - Nine injured in Fall Guy stunt gone wrong
    - A look at Eddy Grant of "Electric Avenue" fame
    - Release of Sinatra master recordings, background music, Leonard Maltin's review of "Daniel," and the mystery of "Cuchi-Cuchi"
...followed by title sequence (far more involved and detailed than would follow in later years)
Ron introduces the top story, reported by Catherine Mann - the Stooges' Walk of Fame ceremony, attended by surviving Stooge Joe Besser and descendants of the original members, plus a crowd of 2,000 and Stooge lookalikes; at another gathering, the likes of Jamie Farr and Milton Berle paid tribute to the trio. L.A. disc jockey (and former Laugh-In announcer) Gary Owens had initiated a letter-writing campaign (a total of 15,000 had written) that led to this day. At the end of the day, a documentary - "The Funniest Guys in the World: Fifty Years with the Stooges," narrated by Steve Allen, is shown; Paul Winchell speaks about their legacy towards the end of this report.
This aired on local Chicago TV on Wednesday, August 31st 1983.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

I can't beleive it took till 1983 for these great knuckle-heads to get a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, that was way, way overdue. C'mon , these guys are iconic slapstick comedy legends (& sometimes wise-guys) . They've been performing since the days of vaudville, and they still crack me up. Thank you- Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Curly Howard, Shemp Howard, Curly-Joe DeRita, & Joe Besser, you are the funniest people ever . Bob.G
