How to keep YouTube music playing in the background on iPhone

- On iPhone, most music apps let you play music in the background. After all, they'd be virtually useless if they couldn't. For video apps that's not the case which - again - makes sense, since you can't watch videos with your iPhone locked and the phone in standby.
With UA-cam, the app is a sort-of two-in-one platform that offers videos and, with that, music videos which is a surprisingly popular way to consume music these days.
UA-cam does let you use its video app to play music in the background but there's a caveat: you need to be a Premium subscriber in order to take advantage of that feature. Of course, you can use the UA-cam Music app, but again, you need to be a subscriber for that too.
Thankfully, there's a workaround that enables you to play music from UA-cam videos for free, in the background, and it's really not difficult to do.

I have Spotify premium but some smaller artists don't have Spotify. its nice to be able to listen to their stuff in the background without having to fork out more money for UA-cam premium
I have Spotify premium as well, but still prefer UA-cam for music.

Use the Fire fox app
When doing as you suggest, the video audio plays in the background for a few seconds and then it automatically switches to the music app. Note: the Music app has been shut down and it keeps playing the last song I listened to. Any suggestions?
Mine was doing the same thing, however if I go to full screen in UA-cam then go to the home screen it works! Also using Google chrome not Safari. Hope this helps

After all the anti adblock stuff I've decided to drop YT premium out of principle. This is primarily what I had it for so this has been incredibly helpful!

The cool thing now (currently on ios 14.6) is that when you follow this video and go to the home screen, you can now watch videos in picture in picture mode while using your phone normally.

@@RuciosDubstepMixs Picture in picture on iPhone is almost useless. On the other hand, Android gives picture in picture, split screen, and pop up windows for any app. Using an iPhone for real work is incredibly frustrating. My iPhones are just novelty toys at this point. Never going back from an S23 Ultra.

sadly this didn't work for me, I tried a few times but it just said 'Not Playing' in the screen that shows the controls. Glad everyone else managed :)
After you start playing the video it'll go full screen mode. Tap on the button at the top to bring the window back to it's original state. You should see it pop up after that. No idea why it works but I had the same problem as you and that fixed it.

Mmmmh....I may have to take back my praise, as this solution only works, at least for me, until the next commercial (so every few minutes), and then the video stops and you have to start the whole thing over again.... any suggestions (other than an ad blocker)?

One of the reason why I don't use iphone is because you cannot block adds on youtube and listen to background. on andriod firefox can do this for you. with play list and everything. plus Im stingy and wont pay for youtube
Of course you can, just download AdBlock for Safari or Opera or Chore or wathever.
Download UA-cam Vanced best app if you have an android it’s basically UA-cam premium. Let’s you close UA-cam and play all the music you want without ads. It’s not in the App Store because google owns it lol so you will have to find it the app on google search and download the apk file from their site. They make the setup easy. I’m not sponsored I just love the app when I owned a android but unfortunately it broke and I finally gave iPhone a try
