This isn’t abnormal for mini-homes to sit on. Mini-homes have been around forever, but to me, the mini-home parks are predatory since the lot fees are so high! Ppl can’t afford to save for a larger home on land when every month they pay anywhere from $300-600 just in lot rent! I looked at one that was close to $600 mark since they said you had to pay water and sewage separately when traditionally that would hav ll been part of the lot rent. I decided to run away from parks for this reason. They just keep you down.
I love Tiny Homes. Been interested since 2013 . I'd rather have acres and a tiny home with a yurt than have a mortgage for a massive house that's a pain in the ass to clean. Cant afford either now though regardless . I'll hopefully buy a nice refinished trailer ( mobile home ) in Alberta mountains with a wood stove . Pray for me lol

I think you're going to be hard pressed finding a lot of people who don't like the idea of "tiny homes". Density can actually be a good thing. Also, people would rather own a "tiny" detached house than rent a tiny apartment. They built "war time" homes back in the day which continue to be perfectly livable. We need to go back to that way of thinking.
I have a house from 1948. The original structure was about 1000sq.ft. Additions were made in the 70s to double the size and add 3 bedrooms. And there's plenty of room to add more because the property is decently large.

Cheaper/easier to buy, heat, maintain, repair and renovate when needed. Luke, there are many homes in Toronto that were built after WWII and were under 800 sq.ft. with a decent sized lot. I bought one of these in 1995 for a $170,000. It’s been home to me. Many others have raised families in these homes and were considered decent working class neighborhoods. Political policies are the bigger threat.
Small but those are great little houses. night and day to an 800sqft condo. Private yard (and perhaps a shed, garage of basement to escape to) makes a huge difference. I would take one of these 800sqft houses w original lot over a 1200sqft 3 bed condo any day of the week.
I think that many people would be happy with well laid out homes of the post WW2 style, and it's kind sad when I see them torn down to build monstrosities. The challenge is that even a tiny cottage lot around 150km north of Toronto can cost over $200k, so the cost of land is still the limiting factor.
As a working 23 year old Canadian I honestly would love one of these if they were a good price. I don't need much in terms of living, just a place of my own.

Milton, Ontario is full of tiny homes like that. They build a 3rd floor to bump up the sq foot but the footprint is even smaller. The selling price is 800K.
I have lived in two of them , it is a good way to follow the work . I really liked the last one and the neighbors were great . They set on concrete blocks and you put anchors in the ground because of the wind .
I've seen a few Indian reserves like this across Canada with multiple beater cars and junk strewn everywhere in the front yards. This by comparison is clean and tidy. This gives new meaning to, little house on the prairie, the modern version.😀

I'd rather have a nice tiny home any day. These rich and famous cannot even rent them out because they're way too expensive . Would you want to pay $30,000 a month to rent these?
In Ontario, the smallest 'tiny house' you are allowed to build is 190 square feet in size. So basically 200 sq-ft and up. I'm okay with that as long as the cost of the mortgage and property taxes is less than $2,000 per month which is what a 1-bed room rents for in Southern Ontario. Actually, I could probably add two separate bedrooms to the tiny-house and then rent each one of those rooms out for $1,500/mth each, making the house actually pay for itself.
Our next home that we pay cash for, will be out of town in the foothills of the rockies. We have zero debt, own our home and have plenty of savings. We worked hard and didn't spend on stupid things. Financial discipline is very important these days.

I drove a redimix truck in Edmonton for years and these look similar to what I've seen in new subdivisions in Alberta.so its not shocking to me. More houses cramed on small lots equals more profits for developers and tax collectors. Its not great but it may be better than the old Soviet type of apatment blocks in Cuba, Russia and China.

My 1100 sqft house in Toronto is around $1.1M in a not very good area. 180k (240k CAD) is cheap lol though to be fair it's the middle of nowhere. Also, I don't think these have basements? My house has a basement as a separate unit/entrance, so it's more of a "duplex".
The garage of the tiny texas homes will comfortably fit your e-bike but if you drive your car/suv in it ,you will not be able to open your door. Also, the diarrhea color of the homes in that one texas cul du sac won't help sales.
We just don't need that big a house now. It just blows my mind how huge these houses are with no yard. In Canada. Why not just open up crown land and create a trailer park? They're nice and easy to keep up. Instead they're building tiny houses in BC and creating a homeless community.
My parents were immigrants in the 80s (Vancouver), we grew up in a 800sq ft townhouse, family of 4, 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom. It was tight but totally doable. We also had a great safe community where kids all played around outside, the village was close by and we could go out to the park, buy treats, go swimming by ourselves. What makes me sad is the best me and my boyfriend could afford is 1 bedroom 1 bathroom, so I’m thinking we likely won’t have a family…

inefficient wasteful design too - if you connected the units - you would eliminate having to build 2 side load bearing walls and also save on energy bills cause you won't have the wind HOWLING between the tiny houses stripping the heat off them (feels like -45)

Texas is the biggest of the lower 48, Alaska is actually bigger, but I know what you meant. I have seen advertising for a local tiny home builder called Wild Horse Tiny Homes. For the price & sizes they're offering, I'd be better off buying myself a motorhome or fifth-wheel or something. It's ridiculous how in this big, big country, I can't even afford the dignity of a tiny home on a tiny parcel of land to call my own. X(
Except those motorhomes/travel trailers fall apart in 5-10 years, heading to the landfill. That tiny house would be built to last and you'll get something if you sell it later.

Looks like the developer is trying to save money on installing the services. Take the idea of a small house and put it in a rural setting, sitting on top of a really large basement (with no bathroom or bedroom in the basement; so tax free). I'm single, with no family. Why do I need to heat acres of house in the winter?

800 square feet might be okay for a senior couple, less to look after, and as long as it has a nice kitchen, smaller living room, and decent bathroom they could downsize from their 2000 or 4000 square foot home where they are only using half of it. I am a senior so I certainly know that a stupid condo is not as good.

We live across he street from a development of squeezed together cartoon townhouses that are likely rented out because no owner would ever purchase a coffin to live in. When the Canadian housing market crashes and the renters seek upgraded accommodations I bet on the owners walking out of their mortgages.
It feels such a waste to get these tiny houses on such big lots, but i guess if your business model is "build to burn", it makes sense to spend as little on the house itself and put them as far apart from each other as possible...
Actually for a few reasons I want a tiny home. 1) Smaller place to heat and cool 2) smaller place to clean 3) less cost to renovate/replace or replace a roof.... Less time to replace the roof....
The building or structure depreciates in value and ages. Eventually when the roof is replaced and the furnace etc most of that crap ends up at the dump (at a cost to tax payers). Maybe I would change my mind after a while but free markets freedom.

I would say that here in Canada most people do buy these giant houses with way more space than they need but it's essentially to keep up with the Joneses and put all the consumer products that we've been influenced to buy. Our next home that we pay cash for, will be out of town in the foothills of the rockies. We have zero debt, own our home and have plenty of savings. We worked hard and didn't spend on stupid things. Financial discipline is very important these days.

the homes werent that small if ur a single person or a couple. however, might be a bit small if you want to start a family. the prices seemed reasonable too (or maybe im just too used to insane vancouver prices)

I went to Prince Edward Island for the first two weeks in July this year I’m from there and have a huge family there and there were these long skinny houses 12 feet wide 60 feet long and people my age retired are living in them quite happily actually so what’s the problem.
$180,000 man, in vancouver BC those would cost $400,000 lol. I bought a small 2 bed 2 bath unit condo for $890,000 at the peak housing before interest went up. I'm paying for it for the rest of my life
Here in southern ontario anything bigger than 1400 sq ft costs over 1 million.
You should consider making a segment about the new builds being lit up on fire all over the gta because people not wanting to continue with their purchases.

I drove a redimix truck in Edmonton for years and these look similar to what I've seen in new subdivisions in Alberta.so its not shocking to me. More houses cramed on small lots equals more profits for developers and tax collectors. Its not great but it may be better than the old Soviet type of apatment blocks in Cuba, Russia and China.
800 sq. ft is actually not that small for houses in many parts of the world. But hey in Canada you should expect to be a middle income earner and live in a 2500 sq ft McMansion because you are Canadian and Canada is the best right ?

My 1100 sqft house in Toronto is around $1.1M in a not very good area. 180k (240k CAD) is cheap lol though to be fair it's the middle of nowhere. Also, I don't think these have basements? My house has a basement as a separate unit/entrance, so it's more of a "duplex".
The garage of the tiny texas homes will comfortably fit your e-bike but if you drive your car/suv in it ,you will not be able to open your door. Also, the diarrhea color of the homes in that one texas cul du sac won't help sales.
We just don't need that big a house now. It just blows my mind how huge these houses are with no yard. In Canada. Why not just open up crown land and create a trailer park? They're nice and easy to keep up. Instead they're building tiny houses in BC and creating a homeless community.

My parents were immigrants in the 80s (Vancouver), we grew up in a 800sq ft townhouse, family of 4, 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom. It was tight but totally doable. We also had a great safe community where kids all played around outside, the village was close by and we could go out to the park, buy treats, go swimming by ourselves.
What makes me sad is the best me and my boyfriend could afford is 1 bedroom 1 bathroom, so I’m thinking we likely won’t have a family…

Ya I considered a tiny home thinking that it was going to be cheap considering that i have my own land in my home town that i hoped i can retire in the future or have a place to stay when i visit so I contacted a construction crew who builds tiny homes in NL it was just over 200k i thought he ment land included he did not i laughed on the phone 😅 and hung up ...........I'm considering building it myself instead it's nuts out there
That’s not bad, we got 10 acres and I was quoted 900,000 here in BC. There are pre fab homes that are around 200,000 but doesn’t include cabinets and appliances.
inefficient wasteful design too - if you connected the units - you would eliminate having to build 2 side load bearing walls and also save on energy bills cause you won't have the wind HOWLING between the tiny houses stripping the heat off them (feels like -45)

I have seen advertising for a local tiny home builder called Wild Horse Tiny Homes. For the price & sizes they're offering, I'd be better off buying myself a motorhome or fifth-wheel or something. It's ridiculous how in this big, big country, I can't even afford the dignity of a tiny home on a tiny parcel of land to call my own. X(
Except those motorhomes/travel trailers fall apart in 5-10 years, heading to the landfill. That tiny house would be built to last and you'll get something if you sell it later.

Take the idea of a small house and put it in a rural setting, sitting on top of a really large basement (with no bathroom or bedroom in the basement; so tax free).

800 square feet might be okay for a senior couple, less to look after, and as long as it has a nice kitchen, smaller living room, and decent bathroom they could downsize from their 2000 or 4000 square foot home where they are only using half of it. I am a senior so I certainly know that a stupid condo is not as good.

We live across he street from a development of squeezed together cartoon townhouses that are likely rented out because no owner would ever purchase a coffin to live in. When the Canadian housing market crashes and the renters seek upgraded accommodations I bet on the owners walking out of their mortgages.

It feels such a waste to get these tiny houses on such big lots, but i guess if your business model is "build to burn", it makes sense to spend as little on the house itself and put them as far apart from each other as possible...

Actually for a few reasons I want a tiny home. 1) Smaller place to heat and cool 2) smaller place to clean 3) less cost to renovate/replace or replace a roof.... Less time to replace the roof....
The building or structure depreciates in value and ages. Eventually when the roof is replaced and the furnace etc most of that crap ends up at the dump (at a cost to tax payers). Maybe I would change my mind after a while but free markets freedom.
The land in a prime location can hold it's value.
Personally believe at least in Canada that might be working with WEF that has the mind set that "You would own nothing and be happy" and smart cities so that everyone is so close and smaller drive ways possible to not fit cars properly to make people walk more to fulfill the smart cities

I have to say I disagree with your opinions about smaller homes. I would say that here in Canada most people do buy these giant houses with way more space than they need but it's essentially to keep up with the Joneses and put all the consumer products that we've been influenced to buy. We live in a time of excess but I think people are getting sick of it.I live in a story and a half house that is a little over 900 square feet. It was built in the late forties and is in pristine condition I can't imagine needing anything bigger. My dream is to buy some land but I would still want a small house on it.
Most if not all municipalities will not allow them, I checked for myself because I wanted one!

In the 1990-92 recession condos on Bay St., Toronto, originally listed for $200,000 sold for $20K. There is nothing wrong with a starter home for first time buyers that is small. My first house was 1,000 sf for $69,000. Perfect for a young couple starting out. THE PROBLEM IS CENTRAL BANKING!
