I do understand triggers. You don't know anything about me. I will admit that it doesn't sound as perfect and clean as a triggered setup would, but I think that it was a mistake to get used to that triggered perfection in the first place. There are many things he could be doing to get more attack and clarity out of his drums, such as using solid beaters as opposed to foam, using more internal muffling, or using a metal or plastic impact pad. Apparently Mr. Roddy simply prefers this setup.

Actually he might be using hard beaters here, I can't tell. I know that he often uses foam ones, which I find strange, given the demands of the genre.
