Leonard is responsible for his own misery here. He shouldn't have accepted the challenge in the first place but he thought he could live with what Sheldon goes through on a regular basis. At least he could just remove the sweater whenever he wants. The only reason Leonard suffered is his desire to show Sheldon, something he had complete control over. He could have quit anytime. I totally sympathized with Leonard with his reaction to the sweater itself. My brother and I had to wear matching sweater/ shirts to a family get together in 90°+ weather. They had to be a blend of wool and raw fiberglass. This was 50+ years ago, my cousin still rags me about it, but she could also sympathize, girls are always made to wear uncomfortable stuff by their moms.

As someone with obsessive compulsive tendencies as well as anxiety, I actually really appreciate this episode. I even use it to explain why I can’t just “let things go” or “not let it bother me” like normal people can. It’s not a choice. This is how our brains feel, and we don’t get to turn it off because it’s inconvenient.

Sure Sheldon wasn’t the best at emotional communication with anyone, but any time Leonard gets into it he always has to be in the Right, whether it was going to Wil Wheatons party, the Roommate Agreement, even the stupid food truck. I think because of his mothers cold relationship, Leonard always has to fight back because he was conditioned to think, “I have done nothing wrong other than exist, and any punishment I receive was given only because I failed to measure up to the standards of an insane loveless robot.”

It was to express how he feels when certain things were left undone. Basically how he thinks. When you have unfinished business, there are those who don’t let it bother them and others that cannot do anything until it is settled. For the viewers its a good lesson on how others are different but this was just a reason to bully him like everyone else did.

@Darrenlinkon the issue here is that for some people the issues are compulsive and its clear from the way he is on the show, Sheldon falls into that group. People experiencing that literally cannot just "get over it". For some people breaks in routine or unfinished business can lead to self harm or breakdowns. Sheldon was diabolical, but Leonard's lack of empathy and disbelief on how things like this could affect him were also shitty. Everyone sucked here tbh.

So many criticized sheldon here, but in fact this was one episode were sheldon wasnt the problem. Leonard and sheldon made a simple bet due to leonard not understanding how sheldon feels when credits scores and unfinished bussiness happens. It was a simbolical message and one of the very few episodes where you could fins sheldon more relatable then leonard to be exact.

I think most people forgot what this episode was about, why Sheldon did it, and what he wanted to tell Leonard by doing this. I know the general consensus on this episode is that Sheldon is a dick but this itchy sweater that tortured Leonard is exactly how Sheldon feels when something is not done properly. I have a close friend with similar attributes to Sheldon and seeing how much she struggles with stuff that I don’t even give a second glance to really makes me understand Sheldon's issues a little.

Oh, shut up. There is no way you can compare actual physical reactions in the body to your mental diarrhea. Stuff in the body happens to you, you are responsible for what drama happens inside your head. Sheldon and your friend should just get over it. Their mental nonsense should never bring harm to others.

    •  11 місяців тому +5

@@zachtemoro2116how come Sheldon tortures Leonard? Has he threatened Leonard to kill Penny or someone else if he removes the sweater? No, he just said: if you remove the sweater before completing the task, you lose...

This is definitively the moment where Leonard _should have killed Sheldon._ And he should've killed Howard too.
And the myriad of comments that I've seen, actually _condoning_ if not _defending_ Sheldon's actions here, literally make me sick...
Sheldon is not the arbiter of morality; he does not reserve or even _deserve_ the right to teach his "friends" moral lessons that only seem to benefit _him._
You might think that the _itch_ in Sheldon's mind drives him crazy until something is done correctly...it doesn't. Sheldon is fully capable of _getting over it,_ because time and time again throughout the series, _Sheldon is Wrong,_ and it never seems to bother him.
What Sheldon did here, equates to _literal torture._ He caused physical harm to Leonard's body for no other reason than to "teach Leonard a lesson," as if he's somehow disciplining a disobedient servant...
Meanwhile...he did all of this, with the prior knowledge that the issue had _long-since_ been resolved by his own hands, and only ever brought-it-up, just so he would have the excuse to use this teachable moment...
Sheldon is a _sociopath._ He knows the difference between right and wrong, but he doesn't _care about it,_ because he feels he is _superior to it._ And everyone in his life is literally just a toy, unwillingly participating in the game of life he plays...
This series realistically would have ended with Sheldon (and Howard) being murdered, and Leonard going to prison. And frankly, I'd like to imagine Leonard being taken-away with a smile on his face...

    • @ToCam-fl8ry
      @ToCam-fl8ry 11 місяців тому +5

wrong because 1. it was not about morality, the point was exactly to show Leonard, how Sheldon's brain works and that he can't stop it. He has some form of autism, almost for sure Asperger's syndrome, It's all in the brain, and the brain governs a human, we don't have control over our brains, and neither has Sheldon.
      2. It was not torture by Sheldon at all because Leonard could take off the sweater any time he wanted!! Sheldon didn't put a gun to his head and didn't have the power to force Leonard to keep wearing the sweater. The point is exactly that Leonard is actually arrogant, thinking he can prove Sheldon wrong, while all he did he prove Sheldon right. This is why Penny also doesn't respect Leonard even tho he is her husband later - because Leonard only whines, doesn't understand what Sheldon means, then thinks he is right, then does smth he regrets, yet keeps doing the same. Leonard is a definition of pathetic and he does this to himself, not Sheldon.

You clearly haven't seen the whole episode. Leonard WILLINGLY put on the sweater to prove something to Sheldon. Sheldon's entire point here was that when something isn't done right he has an inch in his head that won't stop. He said that if leonard thought it wasn't a big deal to put it on until it gets resolved. This kinda challenge was fully avoidable but again was willingly accepted. You act like Leonard had NO choice in the matter. Howard however was for no real reason an antagonist in this, who just wanted Chaos.
