    Laminate works by putting layers of wood together with the grain running in different directions which does 2 things. More strength but less resonance.

    I keep humidifiers in the guitars all year long.

    Great information here. So much so that I’m not freaking out about the Takamine G51CE that I bought last fall that was getting buzzy. I’ll wait a few weeks before I do anything as the seasons are starting to change again. My almost 20 year old GS330 will hold me over. It’s beat up, the finish is cracked and it has some war wounds from camp fires and gigs but after decent set up about two years ago, it’s super reliable and sounds better than it did new when I bought it back in 2004.

    It's at times like this that I love living in the NW of the UK. Our weather is pretty miserable most of the year, but in my cottage temperature is pretty constant at 60 degrees and humidity is almost always between 40-60%. I have hygrometers in three rooms, a humidifier and a dehumidifier in case things go crazy. I keep my guitars out of their cases most of the time, but if things go strange they go into their cases. The acoustic ones always go into cases with Humidipaks. I know that I'm a bit retentive, but I lost an Ovation Custom Legend through its top drying out and cracking a few years ago; at the same time I love keeping my Martin HD28V out of its case to play whenever I feel inspired. There's nothing less inspiring than being inspired and losing it whilst opening guitar-cases.

    Great info and content! humidity or lack there of greatly effects acoustic guitars. I've found that if you have humidity and neck relief correct and still have some string buzz, keeping various string guages handy helps with buzz. Say you use 12's and you're having slight buzzing on the high B and E strings switch the .016 and .012 out with .017 and .013 works almost every time!

    Jeremy, thanks for yet another great video! … Hey, I’ve got a couple questions: A couple weeks ago I purchased a brand new “Guild M20E Concert A/E - Natural” … As you know, the “hard case” included with the guitar is called ‘HumiCase’ which has a built-in “humidification system” called ‘HumiPod’ within the case itself at the very top directly over the sound hole)... Anyway, here are the questions: Where is the “Hygrometer” itself located within the HumiCase? … is it an integral part of the ‘HumiPod’ system itself, except WITHOUT a digital “temperature / humidity” readout? … and if that’s the case, what's your opinion on the “D’Addario HumidiTrak Bluetooth Guitar Humidity and Temperature Sensor” so I can monitor the H/T from my iPhone when I’m not playing it? .. Well, for what it’s worth, I currently live upstate in Rhinebeck New York; however, my wife and I (in a few months) will be moving to Clemmons, North Carolina. Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    I just got an acoustic, when In it’s case should I throw in a humidity pack? They have 58% 65% 69% , it’s a two way humidity pack so it’ll keep the case at whatever % so it can never over humidified the guitar. I want to keep it out but I’m in an apartment in Southern California and can’t really control the temperature

    Great video!
    I live in Thailand where the humidity rarely goes under 50%. Aside from some issues with corrosion on metal parts guitars actually do fairly well in the tropics.
    Really liked the tone you copped in the opening segment. What was your signal chain?

      @@WS-bk7uu Not really, except for some neck changes due to the humidity that I can fix with a truss rod adjustment.

    Have you looked at the Mojotone NC-1 soundhole pickup? It makes a lot of claims (like being modeled to sound like a condenser microphone), so I’d like to hear your perspective.

    Do you use a stand alone humidifier to regulate humidity in your house? Ive seen some that attach to furnace, my stand alone had a hard time keeping up this winter

    Also usually if I notice that my areas humidity gets really really dry I just get a measuring cup out and I actually just put anywhere from 1 cup or 2 cups of water and pour it directly into the soundhole of my acoustics and it usually keeps those acoustics from living in a dry humidity area....lol.....( Iam only joking around do not ever read one of my comments and do what I say I am in no way,shape, or form a Guitar Tech) if you need good and proper advice ask Jeremy@ guitar hunter.

      I had a friend who used to play a big '70s ovation big bowl 12 strings. Two pitchers worth of beer fit inside it his parting trick was shotgunning his ovation through the output jack.

    A side comment from a know-nothing in the guitar world: I hate that distorted sound in the electric guitar at the opening. What is the fascination with that? I went to a local club (Texas) that had a band doing '70s and '80s rock, so the volume was way up (and the bass guitar much too loud), and I could hardly make out the notes in the guitarist's leads. It was a blur of distorted fuzzy noise. What's up with that? There. I got it off my chest. No answer expected. (Spent some time last week in Staunton and Lynchburg, so not so far from you. Beautiful country.)

    What do you do when you can't see down the neck?

    • @JeremySheppard
      @JeremySheppard  3 роки тому

      You can tell by the action and if it's buzzing out below the 7th frets. A good repair tech can correct it too.

    Never use a micro tilt you lose a coupling between the body and neck leaving a gap that will eventually create a ski jump at the end of your neck...worst idea ever.....always use a full pocket shim...thats my rant lol....

      @@JeremySheppard Think about a gap in there its not a good thing.. common sense tells you its not good..I'm surprised you don't that by now....your response actually doesn't make sense unless your fooling with me..Nah Ha Ha I've heard but not seen it ..what does that even mean?....confused..

    • @JeremySheppard
      @JeremySheppard  3 роки тому

      I've heard lots of people say that could happen with a micro tilt, but in the hundreds of guitars I've owned that have one, I've not seen necks deform or ski ramp. The only way it would be true is if the neck was really cranked down, deforming the neck, but they're maple and that would be pretty hard to do.
      No offense intended, I was being snarky. I just think it's a popular opinion that isn't particularly true. Fender has been doing micro tilts for 30 years probably.

    DUH.......next time just fill the bathtub up with water and add in lots and lots of bubbles and maybe even add a toddler or 2 inside along with all those nicer guitars you have such as the Huss and Dalton and a few of those Martins and give your kids some old rags and tell them to start washing your guitars and get them all nice and shiny, then while the guitars are still pretty wet just go and hang them back up on the wall......Lol
