Hello, enjoyed this video a lot, thank you. I hope to do a truck camping road trip from Manitoba down to NB, NS and PEI, in September, approximately 4 weeks. The main purpose of my trip is to do coastal fishing, shellfish and mushroom foraging. Will it be safe for shellfish gathering at that time? Do you know of any Facebook groups I can join to help make connections and gather information as I move through the Maritimes? Kind Regards, Steve (68yrs), Ste Anne, MB.
The best thing to do is to check the DFO website. They have a live shellfish harvesting map that shows where is safe to dig! Where I typically go, the late summer is usually a good time! As long as the waters aren’t too warm, they almost never shut down where I go. Not really sure about Facebook groups for this topic, but you could try “Nova Scotia Fishing”. Hope this helps!
Hey there Logan, nice to see you back online again. Just wondering general location where you where digging as some areas are closed to digging because of shellfish poisoning and such. I actually learned a couple things from your video today. Did not know of the size restrictions that they needed to be 50 mm in length. Do you know when this regulation came into effect? I never really cared to much for the big ones as the smaller ones where always much more tender to chew. It is amazing just how much sand they spit out while soaking them overnight isn't it. The other thing I learned is that I also love clams and now want a big feed of them. Shame on you for doing that to all of us ...lol :-) Congrats on you newest edition to the family. Just wondering if you could call your fiancée by her first name and not just "fiancée"...lol She does have a proper name doesn't she...lol Just kidding with you my friend. Take care and stay safe and warm out there wherever you end up making your next videos. Mackerel season is almost upon us and hopefully we can meet up sometime on the road trips you take. Cheers and beers for now. Tom
I suppose she does have a name lol! I'm not sure about the whole 50mm thing, but I think it came in to effect several years ago. I don't remember this rule when I was growing up. I'm sure if you venture to some government wharfs this summer I might see you! Cheers buddy and thanks for watching! 😀
Soaking the clams for 24 hours before cooking, priceless information assimilated

Was very good!
This was so cool to watch!!! I’ve never had clams before - is the flavour very different from mussels?
You'll have to try them sometime! I like mussels and clams both, but if I had to pick, I'd take clams... They are very different though.
I enjoyed the video.
Thanks for watching Trevor!
Nice video Bud
Thanks man!
Never had steamed clams before. Are they similar to mussels?
They are quite delicious. Hard to explain. Somewhat similar, but also very different. I like them more personally.
