He is smart to go fast. Medically, your brain starts sending "I'm full" signals to the digestive system at about 20 minutes no matter how much you've eaten. This why they tell dieters to slow down because they will feel full in 20 minutes on less.

The US has enthusiastically embraced the frying of all things! My daughter-in-law is from Minnesota and introduced us to deep fried dill pickles. I have to say, they are wonderful. I couldn't eat more one full sized pickle, but it was wonderful. Fried Oreos are a staple of fair food across the States.
As for "samey" ness of the cheesesteak, well, that's up to the purchaser. In our area we do our own version of the cheesesteak, and we're about 135 miles from Philadelphia (or by road, you'd drive about 180 miles.) I was not impressed with a "real" Philly cheesesteak, after growing up here in Williamsport. Ours, with the "works," will come with fried onions, and/or raw onions (I love it with both) and your choice of cheese (American, provolone, Mozzarella, Swiss and anything else that particular sub shop happens to have on hand, but definitely NOT CheezWiz. For us, provolone is the choice. The steak is anything from thinly sliced top round to sirloin and I've even had prime rib cheesesteaks (with truffle oil, of course) and then you may or may not add lettuce (shredded) and thinly sliced tomatoes, fried green peppers and/or mushrooms, and for those who like it, there are also pepperoncini, or in the really authentic Italian sub shops, house made hot Italian peppers that might tingle your tongue or blow your head off. It's a risk you take! My son now lives in Colorado and the first thing he and his wife want when they're home to visit is a cheesesteak from the Newberry Sub Shop. They'll be here next Friday night and you can bet Saturday's lunch is already planned. :)

The legend is that the mineral combination in the local water gives the bread its correct softness, such that far away cheesesteak makers import the bread. Steak must be diced, cheese must be melted through top to bottom, bread must be correct. Get it right, or dont call it a cheesesteak. I'm proximal to Philly.

A real cheesesteak from Philadelphia only has meat, cheese, and possibly fried onions. The only correct condiment is Heinz ketchup. The cheese should be either provolone or Cheese Whiz. The roll should be Amoroso or Liscio's. And the best one in Philly is either Jim's or Delasandro's. One more note... a real cheesesteak is NEVER called a Philly Cheesesteak. And they never have peppers. Down here in Jacksonville Florida, we have a place called Philly's Finest that has excellent cheeksteaks!
