Ok- so I’ve watched every one of these crazy quilt videos and you have me wanting to cut up all kinds of clothes …and fabrics ..I’ve sewn stuff before but you’ve given me a whole new inspiration-thank you
Go for it! I want to see what you come up with!
I never thought about buying wedding dresses or things like that to make a crazy quote what a great inspiration I'm glad I found you on UA-cam You're terrific
I started cutting up prom and wedding dresses back in 1999. Never looked back hahahahaha
Hi! I just found your channel the other day. I am so excited to try crazy quilting. What a treasure trove you got for $3. You have blown my mind with possibilities!
You will never look at second hand clothes the same again LOL!
Love the idea of cutting up a wedding dress !!!
It's one of my favorite things to do!
I just found you on UA-cam and I’m so very excited! I’ve wanted to learn vintage crazy quilting and you show exactly what I love! I’ve collected millinery items & vintage fabrics while flea market in France & Italy. Now I need to figure out what I can make out of these crazy quilt toppers! Can’t wait to watch more of your videos!! I’m about to start the 5th one!
Welcome!! Welcome to my madness! I'm having a little fabric envy over the french and italian items lol
I especially love the wedding dress. There aren’t many thrift stores close by, but I would have bought that in a heart beat too! TFS! Becca
My sister just donated her wedding dress to me- I will make her something special which she will then give away lol
The wedding dress idea awesome and that sateen with a laser copy and iron is amazing for photos!!!!!
That's a good idea. If I ever get a laser printer I will try it.
I bought a "quickie' (shotgun) wedding dress for $7 with bishop sleeve in lace. a 4" high mandarin collar covered in pearls and more lace. The bodice and skirt of the dress were covered in embroidered lace. The underlay was pleated satin. I still have a lot of it. One of my best purchases. Crazy part was my husband saw it hanging. He's an enabler.
You have a wonderful husband- tell him I said so lol. I am always on the lookout for cheap prom dresses, bridesmaid dress and of course heavily laced and beaded wedding gowns.
Re: washing thrift store clothes. I always throw them into the washer as soon as I bring them home, no matter if they smell or not & then all go into the dryer - I want to make sure they are clean. And if they are going to shrink, I'd like it done before they become part of any quilt.
Thanks for sharing. What kind of quilts do you make? I am guessing crazyquilts but I hate to assume.
@@danceswithpitbulls Definitely crazy quilts & only with clothing & stuff. Loved your embellishments - very nice work.
have you seen my neutral blocks yet? I am loving them
@@danceswithpitbulls Not yet - just this series so far but I will be checking out the others :)
Oh my GOODNESS!!! I've found some awesome clothes at my thrift store too. I have to say...you have a treasure in that wedding dress, just look at all that lace!
I've used most of that lace up- I need to find another $3 wedding dress lol
@@danceswithpitbulls I found another wedding dress full of lace here. I'm going to buy it next month, if it's still there.
@@tinadotter7577 I hope you get it!
HI Rebecca, I loved watching you dismantle the wedding dress, I volunteered at Sallies for 14 years & I rescued a couple of wedding dresses that were badly soiled & couldn't be sold & I happily cut them up, so I will be using some of those pieces when I start my crazy quilt 🤗 I cut a 10 inch cardboard template out this morning ..... that's a start !! Thanx foff the advice to put stretchy fabric in the centre 👍👍 On to part 9 xXxX
I recently put together Wedding Dress bundles.
💕you would be lethal at our Dig and Save. So many beautiful garments go to the landfill. Grateful you are teaching people to reuse.
it makes me sick thinking about the waste that goes on. Cut that prom dress dang it!
your videos, and YOU! bring me so much joy. thank you dearest 🕊 💜
Wow thank you so much for these kind words
OH Wow!!! What a beautiful wedding dress! at a killer price!!! Yes I cut up clothes from thrift shops too for quilting but have never found something like that for the price you paid! What a steal. Can't wait to see what you do with it!!!
this was 5 years ago- the wedding dress has been put into many many bundles and also my daughter's quilt!
Pre-made decorations...I'm all into that !!! If an old garment has any embellishment, I'm saving it ! Good tip, Rebecca !
I just bought a sweater and a dress with heavy beading at Goodwill. I'm rich!
cool clothing ,I have so much cuts from wedding dresses ,my sister has a wedding dress shop and after they finishing fittint the dress ,I get all the cuts ,tfs
Then you have the perfect recipe for a stunning crazy quilt! I am a bit jealous lol
all of them so cool!! colors of this "poor" clothing are outstanding, buttons idea very funny, but sound much interesting in quilt, so let start cut, cut, cut, cut...........ect...... I LOVE YOUR TUTORIAL ABOUT CRAZY QUILT!!!!!!
I think I have a little too much fun cutting stuff up lol
I have to admit you about gave me hives when u started cutting the wedding dress!! 😂😂
it had a huge stain and cost $3 at thrift store....I am still using parts of it!
I get it, but, yes, I'm afraid. I think I'd have to wait to decide on a specific project to cut up a wedding dress...and I have two from the Goodwill...ready for a good idea. You're "ruthless" and inspiring !!!!! Thanks for the video !!!
The first cut is the hardest lol. My wedding-dress-in-pieces is going in a quilt for my daughter
Im loving your videos, thankss for the sew n' odd thoughts. We all have em
Glad you like them! I have more odd thoughts than normal ones lol
I love it! Cut away, Sister!
Snip snip LOL!
This is so binge worthy I am on my umpteen time
Admit it you just like watching me demolish the wedding dress lol
Maybe. Lol
You find the most beautiful clothes to use. They will be stunning in a quilt!
I shop with an eye to cutting them up- I do NOT tell people what I am doing lol
I have to laugh. When I got married the only alterations were the sleeves. They were to small and my muscles to big. 😂😂😂
Lol EPIC! I'm cutting my sister's wedding dress in my next video
I think u got a good thing going on. Why not see what u can thrift. I always find things I treasure so why not save money. $3.00 is a steal for that dress. Luv yr quilts. I'm like u...I do what I like but also what other people might like.
Thrifting all the way baby! Unfortunately I haven't found another $3 wedding dress but my sister gave me hers.
Ball Gowns are good too! LOL!
Oh I would love to find some ball gowns!
I think that cutting the clothes is a good idea! I think I'm gonna do this process on my crazy quilt including some of my old t shirts!
I think that will be FABULOUS! Keep the tshirts to the middle unless you put some interfacing on them
@@danceswithpitbulls that's the plan! (I've helped with a couple t shirt quilts before!)
That was such a gorgeous dress
On the hunt for another one. They are elusive!
All those lace appliques! I'd be putting them all over my clothes. The train would be on the back of a jacket. Lucky fine, and helped a wonderful cause!
I recently cut up my sister's wedding dress, I am going to use the lace from the bottom mon a tweed blazer.
Patti M. Baltimore, MD here.....I absolutely love your videos. I've wanted to make a crazy quilt for some time but I was wondering how to collect fabric and the many many embellishments, enough to have enough to make a quilt....Now I Know ! ! ! LOL...thrift stores.....When you cut up the wedding dress I almost cringed my self, but after you started and I saw the many wonderfully beautiful pieces of lace and other pieces you can get from a wedding dress...I can't wait to go buy one myself....lol..Thanks so mcuh for all of your videos.....they are fabulous. Thanks for sharing with women like me who want to get started but just wasn't sure how to start..........Patti M.
I am thrilled to be able to help you get started! If you yard sale always ask if they have any old sewing stuff. Estate sales, auctions, and creative reuse stores are good sources too. I found one on Google in Baltimore called SCRAP Creative Reuse Center. 925 S Charles St Baltimore, MD 21230 (410) 637-8333. Call and ask about fabric. Mine sells even velvets and satins at $4 a pound.
Thank you so much for show me how. To deconstruct I have things in my closet that would be better off as a quilt
I hope you make beautiful quilts with them!
danceswithpitbulls I need to watch you a few more times..it really is amazing how you just go at those beautiful fabrics like a surgeon
I would LOVE to come over to your happy place and help you cut up gorgeous wedding dresses! I'm working on my 1st crazy quilt. The whole reason I even got into 'quilting' was to make crazy quilts - I LOVE embellishing.
I need help cutting fabrics. How long will it take you to get here once this stupid quarantine is over?
The appliques alone are a steal
I love the appliques, I need to get them in the new neutral stuff I have been cutting.
Really cool video and nice pieces. I have looked in my local stores but obviously I am missing something. I see the potential fabric in most garments so I say "let 'er rip"!Thanks for sharing
I look for velvets, satins, and brocades in blouses, skirts, and dresses. I do not care if they are polyester just that they are pretty.
Wow these materials are so very pretty thank you for sharing.
Thank you I love the thrill of the hunt for them AND the final chopping up part lol
Awesome stuff! Susan Taylor Brown turned me on to your site, so now I get the "Gist" of what I want to do!!!!! Thank You!
That makes me happy- also that you used the word gist lol (I use it all the time but a lot of people don't know what it means)
Beautiful! Can't wait to see what you do with all that!
If I stay in quilting mode I could make some fabulous quilts!
@@danceswithpitbulls Well, I'm okay with it if you take us along! :)
I have been hoping to find a cheap wedding dress for years! I’ve wanted to be a dead bride for Halloween ever since I I was in my twenties! Now I just want to cut one up. I am blown away that you found one for 3 dollars. Jealous, I am! Jealous and anxious to see what you do with it. I enjoy these lessons and tips. Thank you for sharing 🥰
May you find the cheap wedding dress you desire! Looking forward to your green (and possibly lavender) crazy quilt.
That was a beautiful dress. But I cut up clothes all the time. So I get it...
NIce to meet a kindred spirit on this- do people ever give you grief over it?
I'm still not planning to make a crazy quilt (at least not any time soon, although you do make it look achievable!) but I certainly feel a need for a thrift store clothing shopping & chopping spree! Do you save and use the cut off seams for anything? I am totally on the team of CUT THE CLOTHES (including wedding dresses!) - if they're at the thrift store (and especially if they've been there long enough to be marked down!) then whatever you do with them is better than what would have happened to them if they just languished at the thrift store any longer.
Thank you for understanding!! I notice I have two thumbs downs probably for the wedding dress massacre lol. I sometimes save seams to tie bundles with if I don't have anything else handy- Otherwise I just toss them. Glad to have have you on my team xoxoxoxox
With stretchy material you can iron on stabilizer on the back and it will keep it from stretching.
Yes you can. That's a good solution if you aren't dirt poor like me- I have to reserve my stabilizer for the backs of my blocks to hold the embellishments securely in place. But yes, it's a valid solution.
Oooh excellent technique! I have enjoyed keeping some original clothing elements, especially for memory quilts: a teeny pocket on a baby dress that is just the right size for a tiny stuffed animal, or the front lobes of an embroidered collar. They are great for covering happy accident gaps or as the last peice along an edge, and I sew them on with a ladder stitch. Oh! Button plackets, or sections of them, are also fun. Stitch them closed or not. Button and zipper plackets make good "quiet book" elements, too.
Huh. Different stroke for different folks. I always ALWAYS wash thrift store clothes and put it through the dryer because I want to be sure that my quilts are washable. I make lots of baby quilts
I like your style- since COVID I have been washing most things- I still hate it but it is what is is.
I am going to cut up my wedding dress!♥️♥️♥️
Let me know how it goes! I admire your courage lol
I guess I would have liked to have heard your vision for those fabrics. But, I guess we will learn in another video what you do with them.
I bundle them up by color groups and sell them. I do have several videos of cq projects though.
Yes the screamers are everywhere. LolI say that because my granddaughter now eight chooses her clothes based on the fabric she can cut up and make something else with and my daughter doesn’t like it she growls at me for teaching my granddaughter that
lol tell your granddaughter auntie Rebecca loves her
@@danceswithpitbulls will do
splendiferous!
I got your package and it is SPLENDIFEROUS too!
Good!
nope.. CUT THE WEDDING DRESS!!!! seriously, no woman wants to be married in that!! But those pretty bits, how nice in a quilt, that will be USED. I love that sleeve.....
I know, right? I adore wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses and ugly (or just cheap) prom dresses. Bring 'em on!
I had a wedding dress to chop up last year - stuffed it in the washer 1st - got most of the stains out
yeah I never think to do that lol
Absolutely beautiful.
You mean it didn't bother you when I cut up the wedding dress? I got a few thumbs down over that lol
No, I see the beauty of the laces etc and I like that they will be given another life, instead of going to land fill. No thumbs down from me.
Have you heard of a snippet roll...it’s made up from wee bits of fabrics to make a new fabric...I haven’t made any just heard about them in a boho fb group
I have heard of the also but haven't made one yet.
That looks like fun!
My dear you have no idea lol
I would save the prettier seams and couch them down.
I save almost all the seams now and make coiled baskets, tag toppers, and all sorts of stuff. I should couch some down!
Would you ever use that seam you thru out as a seam treatment on a block
I actually keep the seams now in a bag to use as ties on my journals and on tags
Is it better for future quilting purposes to keep fabric pieces flat or rolled?
Have you ever used old denium jean pieces for crazy quilting?
You can store them either way, whatever works for you. I have not used denim. Let me know you try it.
That’s it I have to subscribe...I always quite one subscribed channel if I join a new one..so glad to have found your channel. Thanks
Awe welcome to my craziness! I do other things besides crazy quilts too but I'm sure you will figure that out
Would you dye any of the dress to match what your working on
probably could- will try it with the next victim lol
Just want to say I think you're hilarious..lol love watching your videos.lol
Thanks Charlene, I don't try to be funny it just works out that way hahahahahaha
I want to see what you do with the wedding dress
it got chopped up even more and placed in a ton of nuetral bundles.
Tea dye...or dye it other colours
Where do you find your clothes that cheap. Goodwill is to high to buy fabric for quilts.
I have a super cheap local thrift store plus I shop at the IDEA store which benefits the school district in the town I work in. My Goodwill's have 99 cent days too.
I have noticed you're using a lot of gauzy type, drapey fabrics. Can you mix cottons and others in with these?
I use all kinds of fabrics in my crazy quilts. Keep stretchy ones towards the middles.
like the button idea!!
I do this a lot- I love buttons anyway.
❤️❤️❤️
Cut up all the clothes!!!
Could you dye the satin different colours
you might be able to. you should go ahead and experiment!
I would;d wash all my thrift store buys. The dust and dirt that settles on them can be atrocious!
I work on a case by case basis. For me smell is an issue. Love my clothesline for airing things out.
I'd say you've done this a time or two, lol.
or ten or ten thousand lol
Rebecca do you belong to a guild? You asked about how to make curved seams use due sew or even you're useed dryer sheets, sew your curve turning right side out and tack down then when you embellish you don't have a lot of extra layers to get thru.
No the quilt guilds around here don't fit my schedule. I don't worry about curves, I just don't do them. It works for me lol
We have really expensive thrift stores in Ohio
Goodwill's prices are outrageous but I pay more if I really like something. I used to be super cheap and would leave things behind then have regrets.
What are you going to do with those lace things
I put them in my fabric bundles (and kept the best ones for myself)
😍😍😍😍😍😍
Do you do anything with the waist band you took off
No, do you have any suggestions?
danceswithpitbulls I think you could use it as a nice belly band for a journal...I am interest in these boho journals and they make them from fabrics and also make belly bands to use as a closure you could embellish it with your skills you would rock a boho journal...maybe check out my friends fb group....bohodaydreamers....you have mad skills they would love you! I do!
I'll check them out but I don't have time for anything new right now. I have to get another memorial quilt done and I am working on the neutrals crazy quilt for my daughter. I am having difficuly carving out time to do videos even
Come on by and help me cut mine up!
I wish I could!!!
PS we are still married and have seven children and now we have nine grandbabies
En español
Desearía hablar español lo suficientemente bien como para hacer algunos videos.
My wedding dress cost $300.40 years ago
It was hard to watch you cut that wedding dress!
I am sorry/not sorry- the first cut is the worst lol. Like anything else, it gets easier with time and practice. Thank you for your honest opinion!
