- Of course one of the first things we needed to do in our new house is build some NEW BOOKSHELVES! Partly because Jared loves me and partly because he wanted all the boxes of books out of the garage, haha.
Here's what we ended up using:
11 - 48" Rubbermaid Twin Fasttrack Tracks
44 - 9" Rubbermaid Twin Fasttrack Brackets
8 - 1" x 10" x 8' Knotty Pine Boards
screws to go from the bracket to the board, Jared had some leftovers from another project that he used
That's it! I didn't finish the boards because I love the color they are now, Jared did sand them down a bit though.

I use these shelves, and the stacked books are my bookends. I find it adds visual interest, it's free, and it works. I mostly use unread books, since they usually don't have a permanent home, anyway.
I do like using books stacked sideways as book ends but since the shelves have overhang from where the bracket is I don't want to put too much weight on the ends.
Your cat is an excellent helper! Gotta make sure every box and shelf is sitable. 😂❤🐈⬛
To answer your final question. I honestly prefer genre sorting. It just makes more sense and is easier to find stuff. That’s how I sort my own books so that makes sense to my brain.
Rainbow shelving tends to stress me out cuz it makes things impossible to actually find. It looks pretty but ultimately it’s super disorganized.
Love all the places Tolkien ended up in. Such a cat. 🤣🤣🤣
Tolkien, always the helpful one. I love the new shelves 😊
Hehe, he likes to be where the action is!
Tolkien is 😂 LOVELY. Cats are the BEST.
Glad you made your move safely and are settling in. Your cat cracks me up! On the ladder supervising, checking out the shelves for quality control. And then on the boxes to make sure you keep on task. Too funny. Your shelves look great and I'm glad you left a kitty space! Great use of space.
Yay! My favorite thing after moving is setting the books back out! Feels like Christmas! 😊
Love the new reading nook just Beautiful your cat looks comfy in his new home too.
Yay! Chantel! 😁♥️📚🌿☕️ Congratulations 🎉 on the successful move! Praying for everything.
Thanks Amy!
Love that cat!
Tolkien cracks me up 😂 And the shelves look great! That's a good idea to utilize the space you have. The amount of books we have never looks that bad when they're on the shelves, but when they're in boxes it's a whole 'nother story.
Now that's the truth!!!!
I like the new shelves! Some kind of stepladder would be very helpful, eh?
You can make invisible bookends with craft paper. I use them all the time. Just ake a square, fold in quarters. Cut to the center on one side, and then tape down so it creates a "quarter box." Slide all but the front cover (or back depending on the end) into it and set other books on top. Voila. They stay put.
So simple, thanks Chautona!
This looks lovely! I'm glad youre getting settled. We need more shelves since moving last fall (🫣), and I think I will mention this set-up to hubby.
Books definitely make a house a home. 📚♥️
Hi! Your hair is so pretty and shiny!❤❤
Oh, exciting to see you in your new home! 😊 Great bookshelves with much space! Maybe in need to find out if my friend loves me so much as yours.. 😅😂
You're bookshelves are very organized compared to mine! 🤪
The cat is soooo cute❤❤❤❤
Looove love love this!!!
Thanks Miriam!
I would have to stand all my books up, I couldn’t have them setting on their sides because it would drive me insane 😂 I love the shelves, you guys did a great job and I bet they hold more than you expect!
This is fun! I have more than 10 copies of Anne of Green Gables! I just love collecting different editions!
This is looking so good so far!
Hello Chantel, congrats on your move, although I hated to see you leave Sask. I’m a viewer from Regina and am a faithful follower of your channel. I also have my book collection in my living room with shelving purchased from Wayfair. I love your furry friend Tolkien!
The shelves look great! Tolkien on the ladder was my favorite spot for him so far!
So nice to see you settling into your new home, Chantel! Love that Tolkien gets a designated space on the shelf. Hope everything is going well. 🙂
Looking great, Chantel!
Congrats on your new home. The books look great as they are now. I’m boring and go with alphabetical by author OR by series. For example, Donna Andrews wrote the Meg Langslow Series. I think of them as Meg’s books so they get filed by series name. Codex Alera is a 6-book epic fantasy series by Jim Butcher. They get filed by author’s last name, broken up into the three series he has written, and in book release/number order. Mind you, my collection is digital and I still organize them like this!
Mine are organized by chaos as well. 😂 I do have the nonfiction and fiction separate and I try to keep multiples by the same author together.
Love the new shelves! I'll be interested to see what you come up with for homeschool books and unread books.
It’s so great seeing you get settled into the new house! I love what you did with the shelves, they look so good.
Thanks Kim!
I’ve been hunting some interesting book ends as of late too…
I have that exact same box set of Narnia! 🥰 those are my favorite covers of them.
Ahhh.... So exciting!!!!!
Loving the new shelves! ❤
Tolkien is so funny! 🥰😂
I'm going to have to do this soon... Looking forward to having all my books again, not looking forward to the project of unpacking all of them...😂😂😂
RIGHT?! It's been more work than I expected!
2:20 I was wondering what sorcery this is to only go to Home Depot before the project begins and not in the middle. Shelves look great.
Haha, it's not possible!
So do the kids have shelves in their room for all their books? Love the look of this but my kids climbing all over to get books would make me crazy lol.
The kids will all have books in their rooms, none of their books are going on my shelf, I need my own space. 😂
Loving the music in this!
Love the globes!! 🌏
LOOKS SOO GOOD CHANTEL! 👏🏻😍
It looks fantastic!
This looks great!
Ok... I vote for another set of shelves...do you have an office you can put more in? You need books.
No, our new house has less rooms so no office for me. 🙁 Jared has one though and has his books in there.
@@ChantelReadsAllDay you may need to do like Chautona and have a shed-iffice ... I keep looking at that myself. Yesterday I saw a camper turned in to a really beautiful one. Ofncourse...you can't use a camper.. who knows.... Book lovers are creative!!!!!
😂😂😂Tolkien
It looks great!!!
