Thank you for this tutorial! I bought the pattern and wanted to make it as a Christmas gift but I found it daunting to get started🤣. Your instruction was easy to follow and now the real fun begins!💕Cathy in Montana
Just found this tutorial. Love it. I have seen others similar, but you are much more to the point and easier to listen to as the tutorial goes along. I will be looking for more of your tutorials. Thank-you for sharing your time and talent so freely with us.
I just went over to Plum Easy’s website and discovered they have a pattern for a hot pad table runner. I ordered the Kaleidoscope centerpiece and the table runner. Thank you for the inspiration. I’ve made the hot pads and they are so much fun. I’ve used up scraps and they come out like little Picasso’s 💕
NOT A HEXAGON, BUT AN OCTOGON---GREAT TUTORIAL, I AND LOVE THE QUICK TIPS FOR MAKING SEVERAL PRAIRIE POINTS AT ONCE, AND ALSO ALTERTIVE WAYS OF LAYING DOWN THE POINTS TO MAKE DIFFERENT STAR SHAPES!
Octagon, actually. But you're so charming I barely noticed you said hexagon. :-) Another lovely tutorial from such a lovely and informative sewing teacher!
I love Prairie Points, have used them in quilts and on the edge of quilts using the fold and fold again method so you can tuck the next one in. This potholder would be a good use of left over fabric or totally scrappy!
Hi Laura, I enjoy all your tutorials. I've learned so much from watching (and doing). If possible, could you PLEASE make a video showing us how to make the fabric cube you showed, using only 8 prairie points. Looks like a fun project! Thank you so much!
Don't you LOVE that Quilters Select ruler! OMG, I could not live without mine, it's the best. I should buy more sizes, it's so non slip it's the best. These are pretty, I have only seen prairie points on the edge of quilts, sticking outward, never inward. I have seen this method where they do the no sew Christmas ornaments and pin down the points, so this was fun to see something new for sewing PP.
Having followed your valuable tutorials for years, how did I miss this one? Love it! I don't see a link here for the pressing guide. Do you have a link to purchase it? Or do any of your fabulous viewers have it? Thanks! I enjoy your videos and always enjoy your teaching. Thank you for all you do to help us all. 😁
Creative and fun! Excellent tutorial. What is the recommended way to wash the finished potholder? Did you prewash your fabric? I love how the red, green and white interact visually but worry colors would bleed. This is a project I would do ~ Thank you for taking the time to do this video!
I always wash my fabric before I start this type of project, for that very reason. I make sure all the fabric is safe from bleeding first. and because All of the points are stitch down, so you can just toss it in the wash:)
If you prewash, press and starch your fabric, there will not be any shrinkage, which is a big plus. I've made hot pads without prewashing and they never look as good after washing. If you've prewashed, then a little iron to touch up the fabric and it's like new.
love this project where do i find the template and the little metal triangle to make the points perfect. also would like to know where to buy the interfacing template in a 12" to 16" to make a a table runner.
I've got to try this one. Love that metal template. Where can I purchase it? I would love to try the larger piece for my table. You are so clever and I thank you for these video--they are the best! Can't wait to try this. I've done Christmas ornaments (no sew method), but had a little trouble getting all the points just right. That template should solve that problem. Keep the videos coming.
This is beautiful! I've had to stop all fine hand movement skills hobbies because I have Parkinson's disease. But I've had my eye on this and another larger round one. One has blue main colors and the other is in autumn colors I think. It's not the Ana Costa Patchwork but similar to that. If anyone can help me with finding it I would be so grateful. Thanks so much!
Hello, enjoyed your video and followed along so I could make my first 8" round hot pad. How can I get the patern on the prairie point pin cushion? I will continue watching your videos as I am a beginner quilter your explanations is so nice. Thank you!
Hola Muy buenos días Recibe un cordial saludo desde Medellín Colombia empecé a ver tu video hoy a la madrugada y me gustó cómo hago para contactarte y tener los moldes Muchas gracias quedó atenta
So pretty! May I ask, what color thread did you use to stitch across the ditches of all the prairie points? I wouldn't want it to show. Also, why did you feel it's necessary to stitch down around the points? Thank you.
The thread sinks down into the folds. I often use clear thread, just in case it were to peek through, but honestly, it hardly matters. The prairie point folds should cover the thread. If you don't top stitch, the prairie points (especially on the top layer) will stretch. They are bias. You don't need to topstitch every layer, but I normally do the top (layer 4) and layer 2. I liked how Laura's were all stitched.
+PlumEasy Patterns Oh. That makes sense. Thank you for answering. Would you also stitch down the points, if used in a quilt [block], then? I thought of using clear thread, but thought it might melt if it's used on a hot pad or pot holder.
I've never had clear thread melt but I have had it break after a while. I make star blocks with one set of prairie points, top stitching around the edge 1/16" so it is very close and I match that thread to the fabric. The pattern Laura held up, BabyStar Sweetie, has about 3 different size stars in the quilt top, and it's a good example of what you can do with the prairie points, in many sizes. You can see it for a better visual at: www.plumeasypatterns.com/shop/babystar-sweetie-quilt Hope that helps.
Love Prairie Points but never get them exactly right! Think your pressing tool is a great tool to add to my box of tools BUT where did you find it? Did see reference to it in comments. Is it too late to get the info?
Still loving it and I'll continue to support this channel! If it's not too much trouble could I have some support from you and return I have many all different kinds of videos do playlists to make it easier for viewable content people helping people

If you do a search on line using Folding Star Hot Pads and it will bring up places to buy them. The pattern & the refill sheets.
May I show your video to my quilt guild?
Just found this tutorial didn’t even know what a prairie point was. Was wondering if you could give me the dimensions of the table topper.
