The theme of the carving is the hat, called a phygrian or liberty hat. The woman is Libertas (Latin for 'liberty') is the Roman goddess and personification of liberty. It is used on flintlocks to remind us of our freedom and liberty. Guns are what protects our liberty. God bless America and its people.

These are real fine examples of hand made guns. PA has a rich gun smithing history.

I live in the Leigh valley and there are still many flintlock shows and museums around it's pretty neat to see how weapons have evolved

Thank you for showing 2 of the most beautiful long muzzle loaders I've ever seen!!! To me, the simpler styled rifles are the most gorgeous of all, especially the Lehigh or Bucks Co. rifles with the sweeping "underbelly" near the buttstock& the "Roman nose" comb. I am the very proud owner of 2 custom made muzzle loaders. The first is a. 58 Hawken caplock by Andy Fautheree (1968) & the second is a gorgeous. 54 J.P.Beck Lancaster flintlock by Monte Mandarino (Earley 1970's) with an abundance of raised carving & the sliding wooden patchbox. I bought these fine rifles when I was young & single & could afford them! How I wish I had the vision back then to have bought at least a couple more of these rifles (I'm 77 now). The Hawken I paid $300 with a few extras added. The Lancaster I paid $450 with extras including the fancy carving. There's nothing as joyful as shooting a black powder muzzle loader with that "wif" of blackpowder up the o'l nostrils!!!!! Hoppe's #9 only adds to the pleasure! "Ach du leiber, mein schatz"!

these guns can go for $2000- $4000. There are other guns out there that are cheaper so keep that in mind. John's TVM .50 cal that he hunts with costs about $950

Thank you very much. I have also considered TVM, but really do love the style of the Allen towns and the rugged simplicity of the Bruton gun. I'd go for any and all of them if budget allowed! lol. I think I have watched this, and some of your other vids, at least ten times. Very enjoyable. Please do more of these, shooting vids, and talking about these cool custom flintlocks!

An Allen Martin schimmel rifle will run in that range. Schimmels very plain and don't have any carving, brass side plates, nose caps, entry pipe, and things along those lines.

Would you recommend flintlocks for starters, or caplock/inline?
