I chatted online with Sony UK and they confirmed that the Bar 9 does not have a built-in subwoofer.

its not a bang for the buck to upgrade from the 7k to the 9. it's just not there. sure it may sound a little better, but $ wise it's NOT there.....
so no.... it does NOT blow it out of the water

I agree I have 7000 rear speakers and sub I was so looking forward to this it doesn't have the same built quality or design also 1 hdmi input is a no for me
