- The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is one of the world's most famous but deadliest race tracks. Since 1922, the legendary Belgian road course has been the ultimate test for racers, having claimed the lives of almost 50 competitors. Its notorious high-speed Eau Rouge corner remains one of the most dangerous challenges in motorsports. Sébastien Buemi, four-time winner of the 6 Hours of Spa, takes us turn by turn through the track to show us just what makes Spa so dangerous.

RIP Anthonie Hubert. See you on the other side.
There's no other side.

Anyone else remember when Sebastian's wheels just fell off with red bull F1 back in the day? Lol. Good times.

He was still trying to turn the car with no front wheels.
@Hallison Michel Right but it's still a different team
@Hallison Michel Yes, Toro Rosso..
Nico Rosberg F1 Fan yeah
This guy (Sebastian Buemi) drives for multiple teams/manufacturers at the same time.
F1 test driver - Red Bull Racing Honda
WEC - Toyota Gazoo Racing
Formula E - Nissan e.dams
He's taken over as Toyota Gazoo's lead driver now that Alonso has returned to F1. They won Spa 6h.
@@rumblefish9 Alonso wasn't really the main driver in the team as it was his first season and the other drivers were a lot more experienced than him in those cars
@@maxb4085 His times and performance says otherwise. Gazoo still uses his times at LeMans as their benchmark and Alonso's excellent night driving at LeMans 2018 or 2019 whittled down the deficit from a penalty Buemi incurred earlier in the day.
Why did Toyota name their racing thing gazoo?

FINALLY, A LEGENDARY TRACK..!
I believe they did a video on Indianapolis motor speedway...
SSG Sscorch hey funny joke man😀
SSG Sscorch can’t even compare these two tracks
@@PeRRXX They are both extremely iconic
*ahem* nordschleife
The things that make spa eligible for f1 or any high profile race is its legendary status. If a new track has the dangerous characteristics of spa it wouldn't make it to f1
Facts
Also, the length limit of new F1 tracks is 7km and Spa is 7.004km so it breaks more than 1 rule
The 5th King its less with a racing line
Barkin Sahin they don’t measure tracks by racing lines

"Nooooooooo"
2:28 I’ve never seen a track map from that angle, that’s really cool
F1 does a good job showing elevation on their broadcasts before the race when they do a little rundown of the track, you never notice just how much elevation is in almost every track unless you see these things
That angle also got it totally wrong
@@flare2000x yeah, the kemmel straight incline is much more shallow.. it's somehow even more inclined than eau rouge/raidillon...
Eau Rouge-Radillion is the most dangerous part of this track, small mistake then bye-bye. It also claimed the lives of drivers
Raidillon* :')
It's dangerous but is my favourite part of the circuit
Yeah It should be remove
@@oaz8 It's a corner that unnecessarily complicated things and unlike Laguna Seca, you have to be flat out there. A better solution would be a straight or at most, a widening of the corners
@@kagenlim5271 laguna seca also has a dangerous corner forgot what corner but i remember is in that corner it goes up then goes down which makes car unstable due to weight distribution suddenly goes up down then up again plus there is a bump makes the car even more unstable even at low speed its dangerous tho if you dont know the circuit because its blind and goes doan suddenly you must prepare the racing line before the corner otherwise you could go fly because of the elevation changed drastically and hit the barrier
Drive safely pls

One of the best tracks in the world, love it!
Jeremy Rogers good idea
Is no one going to talk about 1:40? That was batshit insane, the car literally just took off!
Take a look of what happened to the Mercedes cars at Le Mans in 1999. You will surely be amazed.
Uphill + car's aerodynamics = fly

Nice!!
Just one thing bugs me, some "unnamed" turn do have a name:
The right-hand, off-camber hairpin is Bruxelles, Rivage is the left-hander that follows. The chicane after Pouhon is Fagnes, turn 15 is Paul Frère (Belgian driver of old times), and the last chicane is the Bus Stop (there was a bus stop-like chicane, but it was stripped of its essence by Hermann Tilke... yet the new chicane kept the name).
Why this matters? I'm of the belief that a named corner makes more appeal for the fans, and adds some character (i.e.: what's better for the long, ever-lasting turn of Istanbul: "Turn 8" or "Diabolica"?)
Congratulations, you have Google
@@Timeismyrelative Maybe... Or maybe I'm a longtime F1 fan who knows those turn names because Spa is in his top 3 favorite circuits.
Who knows?
@@angelrobles7201 Drivers may not know the names of the corners at a track as you learn the corner numbers not the names as it is easier to learn and also so when there is a radio the driver can know what corner they are talking about a lot quicker
@@maxb4085 That's for sure. But the ones who made the video could've checked that and put the names. After all, for the fans who are watching the video it's easier to get the names than the numbers.
Just check this one: Red Bull Ring's Turn 2 isn't a corner per se in a F1 car, but a slight bend. Many fans are like: "Turn 1 is the first corner, the second corner is Turn 3... Where is Turn 2?"
i used to take the bus there
This was the first track I memorised every nook and cranny of. It's a pretty easy track to remember. Flows in a pretty natural way and it's easy to transition into the corners. But what do I know about real life, I don't even have the money to race a rc car let alone an actual car.
I was here last year and crash my mclaren 720s in eau rouge good thing I was playing forza.
I would love to one day attend an F1 race at Spa-Francorchamps. Its a legendary track
Years ago it was taken off the calendar as it was considered too dangerous.
It took quite some work to be certified for racing again.
Sadly such work could not be done on the Nordschleife.
I hope you didn't this year
Track looks like an UZI😂
Yeah mate I always thought so
another one
I was thinking a glue gun
The track kills and is shaped like a killing machine.
Super helpful for doing this in Assetto Corsa. Thanks!
"Why is this track so dangerous?"
It's literally shaped like an UZI
I've run so many laps of Spa on my computer, not simulator level unfortunately, and I knew there was quite an elevation change but I didn't realize how much until that graphic looking from the side. Thanks for a great video.
Finally, I can understand my fav track
Spa and bathurst are my favourite sim tracks. very challenging and also very fast. Race drivers are so lucky they get to experience these in real life.
The animation in this video is really well done. Bravo 👏
1:39 lmao that was the most unexpected thing that could've happened
Such a beautiful track!! My favorite.
Been racing around this track since I was 7 on simulators RIP HUBERT
He did'nt mean that exit-curb at Radillion. He ment the one before!
Raidillon*
These racing videos are the best
loving the content, more f1 please!!!
Great video.
Growing up in Belgium with a petrolhead as a dad is awesome. My first car memory is going through eau-Rouge in the passenger seat of a fiat X1/9, it's one of the happiest moments of my life!
@Sarosh Mistry you can't walk on the track itself but you can go around quite easily, but I don't think you can go there when it's not opened. But when we went to watch a race we would always walk around so we could see more of the track. But it's 7 kilometers long and there is quite a bit of elevation so you need good shoes
@Sarosh Mistry it was on a track day so it was open for cars
@Sarosh Mistry when we went there it was Spa Italia so only Italian cars were allowed but on other track days I think every car can go
My favourite track ever🔥
This is one of my favorite tracks beside the Ring.
3:33 The turn shown here is not Pouhon, it's the left kink before Blanchimont
You're wrong. That's Pouhon.
@@Smonserratm Definitely not, Pouhon is an aggressively downward sloping left with a much tighter radius than the corner shown
@@Smonserratm It's the corner before Blanchimont mate
@@Smonserratm Also the corner before Pouhon is the "Turn With No Name" which is a left-hander, while the turn preceding the corner shown in the video is clearly a right-hand turn (i.e. the second part of Stavelot)
Y’all they are talking about the video before the explanation not the explanation and videos during the explanation itself.

who’s here after lando’s crash at qualifying
Nice
They should added the crash footage from online racing so the general people can know how crazy the circuit is. Its frustate me very much when i even cant survive the first corner because the people behind me driving like he dont have a brake.. Just like Nico Hulkenberg have done in Belgium GP in 2018
My fav track ever😘🥰
my favourite track
Rip hubert that one hit me hard
As a belgian, i may biased (but i think not ^^), but it's definitely one of my favourite racetrack.
Spa remains my favorite circuit
Top Of Eaurouge the left side just needs to be moved something like 5-10meters back and at the top gravel traps. on the roght theres also the option of saferbarriers so the car doesnt get spit out like now but slides along the wall
At this pace they’ll be doing laguna seca and Mount panorama soon... hopefully
This video came to my recommendation after Spa 2021
Most beautifull track in the world.
if you overcook it at blanchimont does it turn into boilimont?
0:33 thats eou rouge actually
Imola next!
2:04 "Uhm, that's radillon actually"
When a F1 race in Spa Francorchamps was my mom was there
I like how he said Blanchimont isn't a corner for them anymore and there was just a massive WEC crash there in LMP2.
Well crashes even happen on straights. The crash didn't happen because the curve is that hard, they still go flat out there.
@@Maenfy fair enough.

Grosjean’s masterpiece at the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix 😂
He still owes Fernando Alonso a 3rd title. If he hadn't taken out Alonso, Fernando would have won that year.

Do the race track gill-Villeneuve
Yes.
Why on the track map is there a kink going into la source
You should cover all the tracks on the current F1 calender
some of those are pretty boring for a video, sochi for example there isn't much to explain
Felixone Yeah, Yas Marinas is shite too.
who else remembers the track turn by turn in real racing 3?????
Please do road America
At 0:30 I was happy when Sébastien Buemi speak about the Raidillon instead of Eau Rouge… But when he talk about top of Eau Rouge at 2:00 he dissapoints me.
For those who don’t know, Eau Rouge is the name of the pre-1939 left-hander to l’Ancienne Douane. The name of the steep corner is Raidillon. Raidillon comes from the French word for steep, raide. Raidillon actually means steep path or steep road.
Because of missinformation by lazy reporters even the drivers now think the name of the steep corner is Eau Rouge.
You are correct. The name of eau rouge still sticks because there is actually a small river of that name running underneath it (eau rouge = red water)
Now they need to do a 1 Hour special for the Nordshleiffe
at 6:00 Fernando Alonso in the middle. Thumbnail is Alonso's car at 2018 Belgian GP
1:40 ohhh my freaking God! 😨😨😨
Spa is basically the Romain Grosjean of circuits.
Do Monaco!
I don't want to be that guy but no F1 car has ever even dreamed of going 240 mph.
