  • I show the process for removing, cleaning, and re-installing the carburetor on a Briggs and Stratton 775EX Series engine. This one is on a Husqvarna HU775H, but could possibly be used on multiple different brands as I've seen Craftsman and Troy-Bilt use these engines labeled as "Professional Series".
remove air cleaner, governor spring, governor linkage, remove carburetor, disassemble carburetor, clean carburetor, assemble carburetor, install carburetor, install air cleaner

That lawn mower looked like it been through 5 tornadoes and all it needed was the carb cleaned. Awesome!

Thanks for making this video. I bought one of these mowers new around 2011. My sons and I have put so many hours on it it isn't even funny. The thing runs great.
I recently checked the air filter and found that the prefilter was torn, so I decided to replace it. Long story short, Amazon sent me a $20 kit that included a new filter, prefilter, carburetor, hose, clamps, two fuel filters, shut-off valve, gaskets, spark plug, etc. So I installed the new carb. I found that the auto-choke arm had become detached, so I fastened that back. I was a little unsure how to configure the springs, so I appreciate your showing this clearly around 12:00 or so.
Questions about gaskets: The kit I received had three flat gaskets. One fits on the carb intake (where fuel enters). One fits on the discharge side. I'm not sure if it goes between the carb and the silver plate that holds the spring or between that plate and the engine. Looked to me like the O-ring sealed that latter interface, so I put the gasket upstream of the silver plate. I have no idea where the third gasket goes or whether it's necessary. If you can shed light on this, please do.
Thanks again for a terrific video.

      Appreciate it!
For this specific mower the o-ring made the seal between the intake block (which has the spring bracket) and the backside of the carb without the need for a paper gasket since the o-ring sealed against the machined surface on the carb. It’s possible there is a gasket on the other side of that block between it and the aluminum head, and I just didn’t see it because it stayed on the engine when I pulled the carb. But to your question, that would explain a second gasket but not a third.
I will say that the aftermarket carb kits will sometimes have ~125% of the parts you need for your exact configuration so they can market a single kit to span multiple applications and different model years where Briggs may have changed the gasket configurations along the way. That’s what I would guess is the situation here.

@@BackyardRepairs I agree that the kit probably has some superfluous parts. I did not see an old gasket on the discharge side of the carb when I disassembled it, so I don't think it's strictly necessary. Then again, the old gasket on the intake side was worm to the point that I initially didn't recognize it as a gasket; it looked like dirt. I scraped off the remnants and put the new gasket on. Thanks again for your guidance.

Nice, your video angles in this video were very good. One thing to mention is the upper bowl gasket and that it stuck to the carb. Sometimes, it sticks to the bowl itself. Again, great video. Not even a puff of smoke from the exhaust. I'd say that engine is good.

Did you buy a gas cap yet? There's nothing online for a 775EX specifically. One for a 675 EXi, 725 EXi might fit but I'm not sure.

I ended up giving this to a neighbor after I got it running along with a list of part numbers for stuff it needed. I think the gas cap was Briggs p/n 799585.
